Report: Chris Paul Wants Out of New Orleans … Now

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Less than two weeks ago, Chris Paul was reportedly jokingly (or not jokingly) recruiting Carmelo Anthony, to come and join up with him and Amar’e in New York some day soon.

Things have gotten much more serious for Paul and the Hornets, according to CBS, as CP3 reportedly wants out of New Orleans sooner rather than later:

Paul, in fact, has put into motion an aggressive exit strategy that will accelerate in the coming weeks, and his clear intention is to be traded before the start of the 2010-11 season, a person with direct knowledge of his plans told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

“He wants out,” said the person, who has been briefed on Paul’s strategy but spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly. “He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron’s model of teaming up with other great players.” Paul’s list of preferred destinations consists of the Knicks, Magic and Lakers, and members of his inner circle already have sent word to the Hornets of his desire to be traded to one of those teams, sources say. If Paul has his way, he’s played his last game in a Hornets jersey.

“He feels like they haven’t put the right pieces together,” said the person familiar with the star point guard’s plans … Sources within the NBA say members of Paul’s camp have told them recently, “He’s not going to start the season in New Orleans.”

Chris Paul doesn’t become a free agent for another two years, so his only way out of New Orleans is through a trade.

Things are going to get very interesting in the coming weeks and months, as the Hornets desperately try to hang on to their angry franchise player (while Paul’s list of preferred destinations undoubtedly scrambles to position themselves to land him.)

Welcome to your new gig, Dell Demps. Hope you enjoy a challenge.

Hurricane, is it guaranteed that the Heat are winning titles? No, it is not. Stop it. If they win, he made a good choice on how to win rings with his boys. If they do not, he, more than the Heat, will be laughed at unmercifully. So, it’s on them to do what other’s THINK they will do. It’s not easy, nor should it be.

  • Hurricane

@ Jukai- I NEVER SAID LEBRON’S TEAM IS SO GOOD, I SAID THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE HORNETS, & WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT ME CALLING JGAYLOR A F@G, ARE YOU ONE TOO
    -
@ JGaylor- WHEN YOU ARE WRONG YOU JUST SAY STUPID STUFF, YOU DON’T HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO PUT UP AN ARGUMENT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

Allenp; again I agree with you. Only detail is that plenty of players/owners/fans actually show loyalty. I know it is not so widespread (without wanting to go into a whole US vs. Euro fans debate) in the US sports, but in both Europe (where I’m from) and South America (where I live) plenty of fans, players and even owners live and die loyalty, and the two latter often make their business decisions based on loyalty/love/relationship. But like you say business is business and I am not kidding myself believing that $ doesn’t have the last word in most instances.

hurricane its just ignorant, were talking hoops, its not a 6th grade recess period…talk your point, agree or disagree with other points, but name calling is childish…this isnt si for kids

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

Hurricane: I don’t care if you question JTaylor’s sexuality, just don’t use caplock and homosexual slurs. It makes you sound like a f*cking toddler.
You ARE inferring LEbron’s team is good. They had two 60+ win seasons didn’t they? If you’re not inferring that Lebron’s team is good, then it was LEBRON who took a TERRIBLE team to 60+ wins and he was justified in leaving.
You can’t have your cake and eat it to. If the Cavaliers do absolutely atrocious next year, you’re wrong. If they do great, you’re right. That’s the end of the story.

  • Hurricane

@ Eboy- True, but think about this, NOBODY KNEW WHAT MAGIC WAS GOING TO BE, EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT LEBRON IS AFTER 7 YEARS, THE SHOWTIME LAKERS WEREN’T EXPECTED TO WIN TITLES, THE HEAT ARE, SO IT’S UP TO THE HEAT TO LIVE UP TO THE HYPE
    -
@ niQ & Jukai- You’re barking at the wrong tree, JGaylor is the one that is constantly calling people nut suckers & that Kobe is raping them in the but, ASK HIM HOW OLD HE IS, DON’T YOU SEE THAT’S ALL HE SAYS, HE DOESN’T PUT TOGETHER INTELLIGENT ARGUMENTS LIKE THE REST OF US
    -
@ Eboy & Jukai- I respect your opinions, but I don’t respect JGaylor21 one bit, all he does is say stupid stuff

  • JTaylor21

Bron’s team had no one who could be trusted to go out there every night and play at a high level. Which is what a championship team needs, at least two players that can produce consistently night in and night out. When people talk about them having 60 wins, i laugh, because they got those 60+ based soley on Bron carrying them in the regular season but in the playoffs no matter how much carrying he did, they DID NOT have that great 2nd option. Didn’t the mavs win 60+ on time and got their a** waxed by the warriors. So regular season wins don’t mean sh*t come playoff time.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

these basketball players, like normal human beings do, are just looking out for themselves…what do you expect them to do? Agree or disagree it’s not your life and as a super fan you’re putting yourself at mercy to something you have little control over…these are the guidelines that we accept when we dive into the world of sports.

  • BostonBaller

Business & loyalty should rarely be in the same sentence especially in sports, with that said can we please get over the anger for this guy wanting to be traded even though he has 2 years left on his contract? The only problem w/ him going to Denver is that they already have Billups & a blossoming Lawson. Melo hasn’t signed yet so maybe he and CP3 have been talking more than we know. If Melo doesn’t sign an extension and asks to be traded then it gets interesting. CP3 will not want to go to a team that already has a good PG even if they are close to a title, he isn’t stupid just hungry for wins.

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

I don’t care if you call him JGaylor. It’s one thing to call someone that, it’s another thing if you use a slur that insults an entire group of people.
Once again, yer right: there’s a case that Lebron PERMANENTLY damaged his legacy by doing something no one has ever done (leave his 60 win team for a team with a former finals MVP and HOF talent). I just think yer off on how good Lebron’s team was.
    They were awful.
They got 60 wins cause of Lebron.
Sure, Lebron may have won a championship in four years, but that’s max. He can win four championships max in Miami. While playing with his two BFFs. That’s pretty enticing.

  • BostonBaller

@Jukai Posted: Jul.22 at 1:47 pm you are correct in your comment but you could say that about a lot of teams in the L. Take Melo off Denver, Kobe off LA, Dirk off Dallas, Rose off Chicago, etc etc etc. Again, you are right but my only knock on Cleveland was their best record seasons then playoff flops…If LBJ was the main reason for those seasons then he had to be for the playoffs too. He is a Beast and will be more so in Miami. Now he or DWade could average a triple double especially since all players have to do is pass the ball to a jump shooter for an assists these days. lol

Hurricane: Take away CP3 from his awful team and take away Lebron from his awful team, and I bet they play dead even. IF you think LEbron’s team is so good, the Cavaliers better make the playoffs this year. If they win 25-30 games, you better fess up and apologize. I’ll do the same if they’re 8th seeded.

  • Hurricane

@ Jukai, once again, since you don’t seem to grasp the concept, LEBRON’S TEAMS WERE BETTER THAT PAUL’S HORNETS & CP3 TOOK HIS TEAMS FURTHER
    -
Once again you guys are barking at the wrong tree, go look at JGaylor’s comments, they are all about Lakers/Kobe fans drinking Kobe’s man juice, THAT’S NOT CHILDISH YOU CONTRADICTORY BASTARDS?????

  • BostonBaller

I don’t know how Jukai’s comment got to the bottom of mine. lol Modern technology I guess…

  • NBA kid

would love to see chris on the magic. trade away vince and jameer for cp3 and okafor. orlando would then start 1:paul, 2:jj, 3:shard, 4:okafor, 5: dwight, with pietrus, gortat, richardson, bass, and duhon off the bench

  • JTaylor21

@Hurricane I just call em how I see em, you started all this gay remarks, so I just finish what you started. I’ve been making factual arguments every time I comment. Maybe some people can’t handle the truth like tom cruise.

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

BostonBaller: Oh c’mon. If you take Kobe off the Lakers, they may be a 7th/8th seed. Same with Melo off Denver (maybe just miss it). If you take DIrk off Dallas, they suck, but bottom line:
if you take CP3 off the Hornets, they are AWFUL. If you take Lebron off the Cavaliers, they are AWFUL. There isn’t any comparison between the three teams you mentioned and how bad the hornets/cavs would be because of their cast.

  • JTaylor21

Damn hurricane take ur finger off that caps lock key for once, u might pop a blood vessel. We know ur butt-hurt but damn.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

We’ve been watching the Hornets without CP the last couple of years…how is this debatable? Although Collison and Thornton got to step in they were sorely missing CP. But there is no way that Cleveland even competes without LeBron. That team is just dogsh*t. Antawn Jamison and Mo Williams are both probably the 4th best player on a good team…not second bananas. David West really isnt much better than either of those two, but at least NO has guards that can play. Boobie and Delonte West? Anthony Parkers trash too. Cant fault either one of these guys for wanting out, especially CP for being in a good situation, making a playoff run, and then having ownership decide they’re done spending.

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

I mean, f it, send CP3 to New York then sign Melo! The east will have THREE big threes!
    Allen-Pierce-Garnett
    Wade-Lebron-Bosh
    CP3-Melo-Amare
How awesome would that be? Sure, there is a clear best and worst in those trios, but that would be FUN come every playoffs.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

I really don’t appreciate the use of caps.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

I feel like this has to work best for the Knicks. I can’t see the Lakers messing with their chemistry right now, and I wonder if Orlando’s hesitant to bump Jameer after bumping Hedo for VC last year didn’t result the way they had hoped for. Both of those title contenders are going to have to part with legitimate key players if they want to get arguable the best point guard in the league right now. While the knicks have a couple of good, young pieces and a nice expiring contract to offer. It’s just too bad that CP has 2 years left on his deal, which doesn’t put that tight of a squeeze on NO to get something done immediately.

  • http://Www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Mr. Hurricane, what you’ve just said… is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  • Hurricane

HOP OFF MY SACK JGAYLOR21 THE F@GGOT, & TO THE REST OF YOU F@GGOTS, I DON’T GIVE A DAMN IF YOU’RE OFFENDED

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

Myles: I love it, man. A+ for reference.

  • Robb

    CP3 to L.A.!

  • Chris

L.A., according to ESPN is no longer in the running (perhaps never was). NY is #1, Orlando after that, and then Dallas or Portland.

LBJ and the others forced superstars hands. By teaming up, if other superstars want to win a championship they have to do the same.

I don’t blame CP3 for wanting to win, and knowing he can’t do so without 2 other superstars at this point.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Mo Williams was a nice go to guy during the regular season so I’m not buying Cleveland didn’t have another go to guy. He murdered LA on Christmas while Lebron and Kobe both struggled in that game.

  • unrel

@JTaylor.. quit your keyboard hoo-bangin.. you don’t have to get all upset on a comment i made.. by the way.. your response to me was way off.. unintelligent.. unproductive.. and straight b**ch-made.. so.. on to the next..

  • Robb

Damn, Hurricane is really pissed! lol. Hey as much as I hate Lebron JTaylor is right about the Cavs. They were a 60 W team because of him, that’s the truth.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

Kap that was one game, just like he had one good game in the playoffs. You’re not Robin for playing well sometimes.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

The last go to guy the cavs had that wasnt named lebron was terrell brandon

  • JTaylor21

KAP there you kobe’s lovers go again. I just lost a couple of brian cells for reading that crap. Nobody in their right or dumb mind would even call no-show mo williams a viable 2nd option. Using ur same moronic logic, he’s just as good as gasol, huh. Com’on son, ur better than that, on second thought ur not.

  • JTaylor21

    ^ I meant brain cells

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

It would be great if JTaylor21 and Hurricane could just exchange numbers and do their flirting without the rest of us having to waste our time reading through it.

  • unrel

@JTaylor.. what you mad at?.. your comment to me was way off base.. relax with the key-board hoo-bangin.. but to respond.. i’m pretty sure they’ve all said something about their teammates.. whether to the point like kobe or as PC as “we don’t have the right pieces”.. kobe didn’t go on camera and say it.. he was TMZ’d with a camera phone.. i’m not defending anyone.. or bashing bron on his move.. all i’m saying.. is all these stars have said.. ‘give me help.. or ship me out’.. so if 4 (the ones i’ve named) of the top 10 of today’s league have all said the same thing.. then ‘kobe haters’ can no longer use that period in kobe’s career to downplay his greatness, game, legacy.. so let’s go early 90s old school.. make a fist with one hand.. place the other hand’s plam over the fist.. and squash it..

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

LA HUEY, we’re gonna start lin twice? at two different positions? nice!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Calm down JTaylor…I was just trying to make the point that the Cavs did have talent. Hell, when they got Jamison everyone said they were the favorites and Lebron can no longer complain about not having help.

  • rav

eddy curry and a future first rounder – deal?

  • JTaylor21

@KAP jamison is a 34 yr old past his prime non-star. So how does bron have a second viable option. Don’t let the names fool ya, just look at how they perform and their age. Because if someone just looks at the cavs players name on paper, they would think they have a great lineup which is not the case. You can’t keep surrounding bron with old, past their prime players like dude himself is on his last legs.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

Kap where was Antawn after he came to Cleveland though? It’s true he was believed to be the perfect fit for LeBron because he had good inside outside game and was a pretty legit 4, but he fell off the face off the planet with Cleveland. It’s not quite like saying they had Shaq, but a players name is only as good as what they do on the court and Tawn didnt do much for the Cavs.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Well if the coach had more than one play besides “give Lebron the ball and let him score or get the assist” then I think those guys could of been more effective. I just don’t think you can win 60+ games two yrs in a row with only one great player.

  • http://fdsjklfl.com Jukai

Kap: Yeah, yer right, Jamison was suppose to put the Cavaliers over the top.
    But he didn’t.
He actually didn’t do much of anything.
In fairness, he wasn’t used right in the Boston series (should have came off the bench, gone in a the three when Lebron was resting) but he pretty much was a non-factor throughout the playoff run. Maybe he needed another year to adjust to the team. Maybe not. Bottom line, he didn’t work out at all, and it’s undeniable.
I get saying “give him another year, don’t bail Lebron. LEt Jamison come into the system.” But from the time they played together, Jamison did nothing.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

& a team of scrubs (meant to add to my last sentence)

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

But I don’t blame Lebron for leaving Cleveland either because no one great was walking through that door to help Lebron. I only hate he joined Miami because I’m a Lakers fan.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

That Myles Brown comment at 2:41 made my day. Billy Madison FTW!

  • cp3fan

If he is traded, I hope it is to Orlando. He and Dwight Howard would be a good fit. Think of all those pick and roll alley oops. They would be better than the Heat and the Celtics. Chris, Vince, Q Rich, Lewis and Howard is a better starting lineup than Chalmers, D-Wade, LeBron, Bosh and Ilgauskas. And the Magic already have a better bench.

  • Robb

talent that doesn’t show up come playoff time = no talent. Lebron needed players who could be there fighting with him, not behind him. The Cavs were like that. They laughed when LBJ laughed, celebrated when Lebron danced and behave like tough guys when Lebron won the games for them. They were all witnesses alright.

  • cp3fan

Chris never should have signed with LeBron’s marketing team. He should have seen how they completely messed up with that whole “Decision” garbage. They aren’t professionals. I hope they don’t pollute his mind any more than they already have.

  • JTaylor21

Of course u can Kap, u can win 60+ gms in the REGULAR season with one great player and other good players. But i’m talking PLAYOFFS, u need another great player to be able to beat a team 4 times. Because a good team is not going to let one player beat them all by himselves, so thats why a second viable option takes takes away some of the load and forces the opponents to play straight up. Whoever watched the boston series, knows that the celts were loading up on bron’s side of the floor because they knew that the other guys weren’t major threats to make them pay.

  • orl.chris

@dma 12:51 – ya man im thinking something like that too
