Rockets Re-Sign Luis Scola for 5 Years, $47 Million

Houston’s many millions were evidently enough to convince Scola to stick around the NBA. From the Chronicle: “Scola reached agreement with the Rockets on a new five-year deal Thursday, and was happy to share how thrilled he was with the news. ‘I feel great. I feel great,’ Scola, 30, said. ‘I’m going to be in the place I wanted to be. I’m so happy.’ A day after announcing they would match the offer sheet received by guard Kyle Lowry, the Rockets reached an agreement with Scola on a contract that will be worth $47 million over five seasons, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Thursday. But Scola, 6-9, came much closer to leaving than Lowry, even though Lowry, 24, signed an offer sheet with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Rockets always said they would match any offers received by Scola and Lowry, who signed a deal worth $23.5 million over five years, and announced they would match Lowry’s offer sheet roughly 12 hours after he signed it. But Scola said Thursday he was close to accepting an offer to return to Tau Vitoria in the Spanish league, where he had been the Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000 and the league Most Valuable Player in 2004-05 and 2006-07 when he was unable to reach an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs.”

  • rikson

    oh my god… too much!

Wow, Luis for almost 50 million? And the NBA is losing money? lmao

I think this is a fair contract, especially considering what less-proven players have gotten this offseason.

this was a great move by the rockets. He’ll be 35 by the time the contract does, but anyone thinking he relies on athleticism is blind. He fits perfectly alongside Yao, and can play the 5 spot if needed when the rockets go small with Brooks, Lowry, Buddinger, Ariza/Battier.

  • Drew

Scola seriously is one of the few people this summer that truly deserves the contract he just got.

  • olddirtyphil

i think the rockets will be very deep next year

  • Jose

Yea compared to all these other contracts Scola got a fair deal. he’s damn sure deserves to make more than haywood and darko.

Nice deal, scola earned and deserved it. Hes a very capable player, the ways he scores in the post remind me of mchale, very crafty, sneaky, deceptive. Great rebounder and passer. Tries his best on d. I dont see how ppl can be shocked by every contract, year after year, deal after deal. Owners determine contracts based on market value. Sure, there are bad deals, but u cant blame the players. Shard was not worth 118 mil, but he took it. Despite his rep, darkos deal was ok. 5 mil a year for a mobile center with decent outside shot, and some shotblocking capability

Co-sign everyone except rayray and rikson.

He earned it. Great signing. Houston may be the most underrated team out there right now.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

fair deal if you ask me. Amir Johnson 5/34mil Scola 5/47.more than fair..love his game, not the best defender but awsome post scorer and good rebounder and passer.

Scola does everything you expect a PF to do. Rebound, shoot the 15 footer, plays hard, tries on D, and passes well.

As always contract terms is the name of the game. His contract as well as the one Brad Miller just signed with Houston is only partially guaranteed in the last year. This makes the contract much more economically viable since it becomes a heavy trade chip and the end of it. I´ll refer to http://www.red94.net/ who explains that in detail. Point is the deal is great basketball and econimcal wise. Moreys knows what he does.

Scola is TOP 10 PForwards in the league! (if you dont like this try TOP 15)
