Shannon Brown to Choose Between Knicks, Lakers

According to CBS, Brown has received an offer from the Knickerbockers and is now awaiting the Lakers’ next move: “The Knicks have extended an offer to Shannon Brown and are waiting to hear whether the Lakers’ free-agent guard will take it or wait for L.A. to make room to re-sign him by trading Sasha Vujacic, two people with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com Thursday. Brown, 24, played all 82 games for the champion Lakers last season and is weighing whether to join Ray Felton in the Knicks’ revamped backcourt or give the Lakers time to clear the room needed to re-sign him. The Lakers, as usual, are well into the luxury tax. So moving Vujacic’s $5.4 million salary for next season would ease the tax hit associated with keeping Brown. Brown’s electrifying transition game would be a huge asset in coach Mike D’Antoni’s up-tempo system, and Brown would have a good chance of winning a starting job after starting only seven games for the Lakers last season.”

  • fred34 Posted: Jul.30 at 10:16 am
…. so many jokes here - I dont even know where to start

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.30 at 10:21 am
I think he would be a nice piece with the Knicks actually. I could imagine the Knicks fans going completely apesh*t when STAT and Shannon take turns getting huge dunks throughout the season. Do it, Shannon, you’ll get more PT and more recognition for yourself.

  • Run'N'Gun219 Posted: Jul.30 at 10:25 am
im a lakers fan but the knicks would be a better choice for Shannon” dont call me chris” Brown. show the world what u gaot kid

  • L Posted: Jul.30 at 10:31 am
Knicks would benefit greatly from Shannon but I feel the Lakers will keep him. After all the other option is. . . Sasha?

  • Royal Posted: Jul.30 at 10:36 am
Yeah I wouldn’t be mad at Shannon if he goes to the Knicks. No jersey burning required…..

  • niQ Posted: Jul.30 at 10:39 am
Yea, you’ve got 2 rings via Kobe and Co., now to make a name for yourself elsewhere.

  • NotebookNick Posted: Jul.30 at 10:45 am
I’d love to see him with the Knicks. The Lakers signing Steve Blake seems to mean they want to go another direction, but who knows with Phil Jackson?

  • The Seed Posted: Jul.30 at 11:04 am
Shannon would be better for the Knicks, but if we get rid of Sasha, I want let Shannon dunk for us.

  • Ali Posted: Jul.30 at 11:18 am
We need that energy & fire coming off the bench! Stay in LA baby…

  • Badnewzballer Posted: Jul.30 at 11:45 am
If he hardly playEd with farmar and vujacic as his compettion off the bench. What makes you think he’d play with barnes and Blake taking over? I’d rather keep him than Sasha though.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Jul.30 at 12:00 pm
Shannon would be a solid addition to the Knicks backcourt. I hope he chooses the Knicks.

  • brotherwithwisdom Posted: Jul.30 at 12:26 pm
Let him go to the knicks but in a diffrent story I think I saw shannon in a Monica music video…

  • SWIFTboy Posted: Jul.30 at 1:10 pm
Tough call for the Lakers. Not much PT left to go around so you have to make sure not to overpay Brown.
Secondly, Sasha wouldn’t be the worst dude to have as your FOURTH guard. He’s the type of guy that plays with energy even after sitting a few games in a row, and can hit free throws. Can’t say the same for Brown.
Finally, his overpriced contract will actually be beneficial to the Lakers come trade deadline, when the Lakers will have a better picture of the extra piece they might (or might not) need for the playoffs.
I like Brown and his dunks which is why I say let him do his thing in NY.

  • Kap Posted: Jul.30 at 1:42 pm
He was in a Toni Braxton video with Ron Artest

  • Fat Lever Posted: Jul.30 at 1:49 pm
They could have just named this story “Shannon Brown To Choose Between Winning and Losing”, cause that’s what it boils down to.

  • Dee. S Posted: Jul.30 at 1:54 pm
He’s still young and will continue to get better. I’m hoping he’ll resign with the Lakers but he’ll probably get more playing time in New York. He’s earned the respect from the team as a contributer coming off the bench and since Kobe is entering season # 15, he may not play as many minutes during the regular season.

    Here comes the one-hour special.

  • EJ Posted: Jul.30 at 2:34 pm
If he goes to NY, I’m gonna buy his jersey and burn it.

  • ConeyIslander Posted: Jul.30 at 2:58 pm
Come Jump out of the Garden Shannon! You’d start and run a 4 quarter fast break all season! lol

  • LD Posted: Jul.30 at 3:04 pm
I’ve learned not to get too excited about what Shannon might do in the future.

  • Larsylad Posted: Jul.30 at 4:48 pm
Eboy? Why would Shannon go to the Knicks, did you say? For more regognition and playing time? Off course every player wants to play, and I am a huge fan of his, so whatever he does will be fine by me. Still, I think a decision on ones future, should be based on potential ‘Chips and not fricken ego boosts.
Sounds to me like your scared of what the Lakeshow is putting together. I hope he stays in LA and I also hope he gets more playing time. Both are up to him, really.

  • Stillballin Posted: Jul.30 at 4:57 pm
Shannon you will never be a starter at LA. Take the money and be a starter in New York…

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Jul.30 at 8:17 pm
Like everything else he does, the hyped build up is greater than what actually occurs.

  • Blackphantom Posted: Jul.30 at 11:06 pm
@EJ aw come on man, It’s not like he’s our team leader or something

  • Hurricane Posted: Jul.30 at 11:09 pm
In a perfect world: Lakers trade Vujacic, Caracter & a 1st Rd. Pick to Memphis for Marc Gasol & resign Shannon Brown
    -
    PG: Fisher
    SG: Bryant
    SF: Artest
    PF: Gasol
    .C: Bynum
    PG: Blake
    SG: Brown
    SF: Barnes
    PF: Odom
    .C: Gasol
    SF: Ebanks
    SF: Walton
    .C: Ratliff

  • jay Posted: Jul.30 at 11:41 pm
stay in la shann. we want ya!! trade sasha..holla back!!!

  • Hurricane Posted: Jul.30 at 11:44 pm
    YES!!! THIS TRADE IS SUCCESSFUL:
    -
    Lakers get: Rudy Fernandez(1yr.) & Marc Gasol(1yr.)
    -
Blazers get: Sasha Vujacic(1yr.), Mike Conley(1yr.) & Future 1st rd. pick from Lakers, Future 2nd rd. pick from Grizzlies
    -
Grizzlies get: Andre Miller(2yrs.), Jerryd Bayless(1yr.), Dante Cunningham(1yr.), Future 1st rd. pick from Lakers
    -
TELL ME THIS ISN’T GOOD FOR ALL 3 TEAMS, Lakers would get 2 really good players for the price of 1 & we wouldn’t have to resign Shannon Brown, Blazers would get 2 expiring contracts from good players & some picks, Grizzlies would get a veteran point guard, & 2 expiring contracts, plus a pick

  • gregor Posted: Jul.31 at 1:56 am
Rudy wants out of Portland because of lack of PT. That would only get worse in LA

  • Yesse Posted: Jul.31 at 2:38 am
I wouldn’t want Shannon to leave LA. Hurricane has a good point in his comment, but i thought Rudy wanted to leave for playing time.

  • ab_40 Posted: Jul.31 at 3:20 am
unlimited pt in a 7 man rotation. money and fine new york woman or 12 mpg in a 9 man rotation, money, fine women and a chance at a threepeat. Hurricane you’re a laker fan right? this trade makes no sense at all. especialy from the grizz their standpoint. getting a team loaded with wings and guards more guard and a wing while trading away their ‘best’ point guard and their starting center. No way

  • tomtom Posted: Jul.31 at 8:04 am
this guy has got a f**kin nerve. he was NOTHIN before LA signed him. And he will be NOTHIN if he leaves. Learn from Ariza and know your roll.

  • hobbes Posted: Aug.1 at 8:47 am
They’d all trade 5 mill salary for a ring all day long, just ask Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Miller… so fk NY stay in LA Shannon~
