SLAM Radio: Matt Barnes Q + A

The newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers sounds off.

After a successful season with the Orlando Magic, Matt Barnes opted to test the free agent waters. The former Magic small forward was set to join the Toronto Raptors earlier this week, but a bizarre set of financial circumstances prevented that from happening, and now Barnes is a Los Angeles Laker.

I spoke to him earlier today about his off-season as well as his foundation, which is hosting a special event in the Sacramento area this weekend.

    He’s 30 and after 8 years in the league he still hasn’t gotten that big contract. After 2 years playing off the pine for LA, it’s doubtful he’ll get it then. Definitely hope he helps LA threepeat though.

    He should have never opted out of his deal. How did he think he was gonna be a deserving of a long term deal. He’s a journey man and nothing more.

    I wished he wouldve addressed your point about the runners today vs. runners of the 70s instead of some anti-running shoe screed. (Not to mention that shoes are rarely marketed as ending injuries). Weight has to play a role.
