Source: Beasley Shipped To Minnesota

Wow, what a night for the Miami Heat. This rumor is brought to you by ESPN: “Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Heat have agreed on a trade that will send Beasley to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who can absorb Beasley’s contract into their salary-cap space. Minnesota, according to sources, will complete the trade by sending Miami a second-round pick in 2011. The Wolves and Heat, sources said, have also agreed to swap an unspecified future first-round pick.”

Uh, so who exactly CAN the Heat get to help Lebron-Wade-Miller-Bosh?

  • SnowdaJake Posted: Jul.9 at 12:27 am
Works for me. I still hate Kahn though.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jul.9 at 12:27 am
    Yay!

  • niQ Posted: Jul.9 at 12:28 am
That was unexpected, to say the least…
On another note, they added another SF/PF…Once again, this trade makes sense by not making sense. This can only be the doing of David Kahn.

  • SnowdaJake Posted: Jul.9 at 12:29 am
And if they really are gonna trade Jefferson now it better be packaged with a SF and getting a good SG back.

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.9 at 12:30 am
I will miss you every gamenight, my dude. Best of luck in Minnesota. Still a fan.

  • Tzvi Twersky Posted: Jul.9 at 12:32 am
Myles: what do you think about this? I’m big fan of Beas’s potential…

  • guytoofly Posted: Jul.9 at 12:38 am
what is the twolves starting 5/lineup?

  • Breeze Posted: Jul.9 at 12:56 am
Well I felt that beasley would have help this powerhouse..they still need a guard..and a center they still have haslem for some defense..the timberwolves are becoming a dumping site..!

  • NotebookNick Posted: Jul.9 at 12:56 am
Miami still needs shooters and rebounding.

  • Breeze Posted: Jul.9 at 12:57 am
Is david kahn puposely helping everyteam except his?

  • Jake Posted: Jul.9 at 1:05 am
DUMB move for the Heat.I think this potentially puts the T-Wolves into the playoffs. Before you laugh look at the lineup they are marching out….
    Johnny Flynn
    Corey Brewer
    Michael Beas
    Darko
    Al Jefferson

  • Jose Posted: Jul.9 at 1:07 am
Good Luck B-Eazy…You will do bigger things sumwhere else.im sure

  • pablasso Posted: Jul.9 at 1:08 am
Jake, that’s not even close to a playoff team in the west. Not even with the Suns and Jazz weakened and the Spurs getting older.

  • NBA kid Posted: Jul.9 at 1:10 am
let’s see, how many forwards do the wolves have now? pat riley: gm of the decade. david kahn: idiot of the decade.

  • roze Posted: Jul.9 at 1:33 am
b easy just got dhiarrea’d on tonight…dreamteam to nightmare in 2 hours

  • hangtime Hec Posted: Jul.9 at 1:51 am
There is no loyalty in sports.

  • Fut, Posted: Jul.9 at 1:52 am
    David Kahn is Isaiah Thomas.

  • Christian Waterman Posted: Jul.9 at 2:00 am
Kahn’s been making some strange moves, but the guy sure knows how to stockpile talent..This is certainly the best move of his tenure..I expect in the back of my mind the Heat to get blackballed by the rest of the league. Beasley basically being given away to clear cap for the ring chasers. Way to keep it classy, Riles.

  • hoodsnake Posted: Jul.9 at 2:01 am
PG Spoelstra, SG Wade, SF James , PF Bosh , C ? Coach Riley

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.9 at 2:16 am
hoodsnake: Mike Miller as the sixth man.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Jul.9 at 2:44 am
This is the exact same thing the cavs would have done to lebron that the heat are doing. The owners don’t give a damn about the players but when a player chooses to play somewhere else he’s a villian and backstabber. You can’t have your cake and eat it too gilbert. Thats why i root for the players because bs like this. To all the players get yours bra get yours.

  • Joshua Posted: Jul.9 at 3:01 am
    LOL @ hoodsnake

  • BossTerry Posted: Jul.9 at 3:13 am
Damn.. I understand that they wanted to get rid of him and his contract, but u think they coulda got SOMEBODY for him.. Nice Steal by the Wolves, I guess.. Jake- U have Darko starting over K.Love?

  • mc15 Posted: Jul.9 at 3:34 am
@ hoodsnake AHAHAHA spoelstra for pg

  • Michael NZ Posted: Jul.9 at 4:06 am
Day just keeps on getting better for Miami. He’s Minnesota’s problem now. KAAAHHHNN!

  • walt williams Posted: Jul.9 at 4:38 am
How’s Chris Quinn gonna get any mother-lovin burn! Sheesh!

  • Che-Son Posted: Jul.9 at 5:17 am
Wouldn’t that be bloody hilarious if this somehow led to a Minnesota-drafted floppy spanish kid playing point guard for the heat?

  • rashado Posted: Jul.9 at 5:34 am
@ michael NZ i’ve been waiting for someone to use the star trek 2 reference! also i completely agree with the above comment that owners treat players like objects but can’t stand it when players do what’s good for them. don’t get me wrong i hate lebron for this move, i think it is indeed cowardly but only because of the specific team he chose. he doesn’t owe cleveland his entire career, but damn…

  • LB Posted: Jul.9 at 8:13 am
Minny did a good job in copping Beasley, but did they HAVE to swap a first round draft pick? There’s no way Miami is going to fall in the lottery, and Minny’s probably going to struggle again this season. So what’s the point in trading a probable lottery pick for a late first round pick and a headcase?

  • WangChung Posted: Jul.9 at 8:29 am
@Jake: The potential is there for that lineup, but there are always squads with stacked starting lineups that don’t make the playoffs. Case in point – Memphis Grizzlies. With a lineup of Conley Jr, Mayo, Gay, Randolph and lil’ Gasol, you’d think making the playoffs is a slam dunk. The West is a different beast.

  • Cheryl Posted: Jul.9 at 9:17 am
To borrow from Eboy: Good Morning Haters!

  • mj23 Posted: Jul.9 at 9:24 am
I think this is good move for Beasley. He had such high expectations in Miami, and now he can play without all that pressure of being a #2 pick. I think he is an all-star talent, and Miami will regret trading him. I remember watching him in college and he was a beast. I would take him over Bosh. Bosh is rail thin and plays very soft.

  • mj23 Posted: Jul.9 at 9:25 am
Maybe the Heat can bring Shaq back to play for the league minimum.

  • mj23 Posted: Jul.9 at 9:29 am
#2 pick Beasley traded for a sprite and a bag of chips. WOW!!!

  • mj23 Posted: Jul.9 at 9:33 am
@Cheryl: That’s right there will be a lot of hate for Miami. Especially in cities like NY, Chi-town, and Cleveland. Just like the Yankees, Heat will be the most hated because of the Lebron and Pony show.

  • Cheryl Posted: Jul.9 at 9:56 am
From Henry Abbott: “Why is it that so many are in the mood to hate LeBron James? A theory: It’s because he stepped out of place. Players play. That’s how it was. They are quiet and sweaty craftsmen who ought not to be heard from except to call out plays and say “yessir” to the coach. The way sports used to be, owners did things like make billion-dollar decisions and general managers and agents did things like agonize over personnel. But that was always a myth. The owners, GMs and agents may have seemed like they held all the cards, but that’s only because players weren’t great at wielding the power they had. The players always drove the value, because they are what motivated the fans who paid for everything. It has taken decades, but eventually a player — this player — figured out how to really put himself in the driver’s seat, with billionaire owners lining up, one by one, attempting to earn his valuable affections. He took the power of free agency and instead of just quietly using it to slip out the back door, he milked it. He played it out. He built his own roster. He played kingmaker. He went beyond exercising his rights. He demonstrated his might in the worlds of business, team management and media.” Couldn’t have said it better.

  • Cheryl Posted: Jul.9 at 9:59 am
What Abbott didn’t say, and what most will not say (except for Kha!) is that this is a you black male wielding this power and it’s pi$$ing people off.

  • Cheryl Posted: Jul.9 at 10:00 am
    *young*

  • Kevin Posted: Jul.9 at 10:00 am
in an ideal world, the Heat (and Pat Riley) would probably love to give Beasley more time.. as it stands, in the nex few years, Mike Miller will be an integral, dependable part of the lineup.. same cost as the inconsistent Beas so he’s gotta go.

  • Breeze Posted: Jul.9 at 10:08 am
So what other quality players can they get that’s better or more productive than beasley ?

  • vtrobot Posted: Jul.9 at 10:09 am
there’s a little homophobe in the Heat organization who could come out of retirement and run the point again. @ Cheryl: REALLY? are those the s. carolina fans? most of us aren’t past that yet? now, if this were an asian or a jewish NBAer doing this, then i’d be PISSED!

  • vtrobot Posted: Jul.9 at 10:11 am
p.s. @ cheryl: i would think that 98% of the current hate is coming from people who like to see loaded teams that are expected to win get taken out by the underdogs who have so much less. hopefully the racists don’t account for more than that other 2%. peace.

  • Cheryl Posted: Jul.9 at 10:46 am
I’m actually thinking of the billionaire owners, who are used to most folks bowing to their money and power. they are not used to someone wielding power over them, and certainly not a 25 year old black man. and, peace back at ya.

  • PapaBearATL Posted: Jul.9 at 10:50 am
I don’t know about the racial aspect of it but, I do know that LBJ upset the status quo. It’s like that seen in Gladiator when they talk about a ‘slave’ becoming more powerful than the ‘Emperor’. The players are the gladiators and the owners are the emperors. When a gladiator has the ‘audacity’ to command the respect of an emperor(even when they’ve been calling him king since day one) it changes the entire game. The fear and anger comes because he’s opened a door and shown it could be done. Not the kind of inspiration the emperors want in their realm.

  • mj23 Posted: Jul.9 at 11:12 am
@Cheryl: Keep race out of it cuz it has nothing to do with it. Lebron could be white and the reaction would be the same. Jordan didn’t join forces with Barkley, Drexler, or Dominique to win a championship. He did it on his team. Like Barley said: “If I was a 25 yr. old man, I would try to win a championship on my own”. If he was older, I could understand Lebron joining a team loaded with all-stars, but at 25? That’s taking the easy route. Now if Lebron wins a championship, people are going to say he couldn’t do it without Wade.

  • Hussman25 Posted: Jul.9 at 11:28 am
Traded for a Bag of Chumpies and a Hug… MIA is wild for this trade! Minny has a HUGE LOGJAM @ PF! But lots of trade pieces… Kahn may be crazy, but crazy w/ talented kids…

  • Jon W. Posted: Jul.9 at 11:30 am
I kinda wish Miami didn’t have to rid themselves of Beasley. I couldn’t help but still believe in him when he was here. However, at least I do believe he will have more opportunities to be a star and prove his potential now.
But I can’t wait to see the Heat next season.
BTW, I’m not a bandwagon-jumper, I was Heat fan even in 07-08 when D-Wade wasn’t playing much, and the Heat only won 15 games. I still watched. And when they were goners after losing the first three games to Boston, and there was no way they could win, I still watched. The suffering in Miami/South Florida is so over. WHAT A TEAM!!!!!!!!

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.9 at 12:29 pm
I would think that the Heat could have found a way to use Beasley with all those superstars, but I guess not. Damn, they really must not like that dude’s intangibles.

  • giogolo Posted: Jul.9 at 3:10 pm
    HEy @vtrobot
What’s so wrong about Asians that got you pissed?

  • BackInBlack Posted: Jul.9 at 3:40 pm

  • Stillballin Posted: Jul.9 at 6:02 pm

  • JD Posted: Jul.10 at 2:13 am
Wow this is going to be a great team some day Rubio,Flynn,Beasley,Love, plus whoever they trade Al Jefferson 4

  • Purple and Gold Posted: Jul.11 at 2:39 am
Is there a way that the nba can put together one team with the 10 best players in the league on it? That way we wouldn’t have to worry about competition anymore. And we could be pretty certain who the world champion would be every year!

  • [...] remember, Michael Beasley was traded this summer for a second rounder. It’s [...]
