Suns Offically Acquire Josh Childress

SLAM’s tech blogger played the past two seasons in Greece with Olympiacos. The Suns will pay Childress an average of $6.6 million over the next five years. The Suns also send a 2012 second round pick and a trade exception to Atlanta for Childress: “The Phoenix Suns today acquired swingman Josh Childress in a sign-and-trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks, the club has announced. In exchange, Atlanta receives the Suns’ 2012 second-round draft pick. Childress has signed a five-year contract.”

Grant Hill’s substitute is Jared Dudley. But anyway, great signing for the Suns.

He’s back. Does he still have the fro?

  • dunkbar

    @ldr4: yes, he does.

Pretty good signing for Phoenix. I still don’t understand why they didn’t sign Amare Stoudemire to a 5 year $100 million dollar deal though.

Something to be said about this disbelief.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

lol@ c_cant.. C’mon, lets be nice :) Anybody have Childress’ stats from Europe, I dont believe hes gonna be a big contributer.. Could be wrong, lately all I know about this guy are all his new electronic toys..

    @Don,

They did, then they traded him to the Knicks. lol. I think they didn’t feel he was worth the investment and he didn’t want to play there anyway.

You know, this has been a fantastic summer.
if you blatantly ignore the fact that we let the best player on our team walk because we didn’t want to f*#@)ing guarantee his contract

  • http://wealwayswin.net Hersey

I love this move and overall I’m happy that the Suns are super deep with quality players but Amare is a big loss. The trades have definitely help reduce all the negativity after Kerr, Griffin and Amare bounced tho

Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers: Hedo is Grant’s replacement, but I guess in the long-run Childress can be a pretty serviceable starting small forward. I look at it more like Marion-lite: he can’t run point forward like Grant Hill, and he occasionally has trouble creating his own offense, but if you want an awesome finisher for Dragic and scrappy defender, you got a great aspect.
The Suns are my team, through and through. For every other sport, I root for the hometown, but it never hit me in basketball. I was so taken with Barkley/KJ/Thunder Dan back in the glory days, I’ve loved Phoenix ever since. Heck, previous on this website, I’ve been accused of loving Marbury and hating AI (something that makes, really, no sense at all) but that’s cause I still have fond memories of Stephon from running the Suns and the flashiness and excitement he brought.
I do choose other teams to root for rather yearly. I’ll definitely be rooting for Miami just cause I think people are hating WAY too hard so I’ll be on that bandwagon. I’ve taken quite a liking to Sacramento too, and I’ll always root for the Knicks just purely because I’m a New Yorker.
But I’ll never abandon the Suns.
    They’re my team.
    Through and through.

    *aspect = prospect

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

@jukai: can’t-create-offense and scrappy defender are the words I’d use to describe Josh when he was with ATL. You mean to tell me he didn’t pick anything up while he was in Greece?

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

i can understand that, Suns have supporters all over the world cause their style is great to watch, nothing bout you being a NewYorker should stop you from rooting for Phoenix..although me, like most europeans, strongly bealive in loyalty to one team and one team only..but i was messin withya, Im passioned about the Blazers but kinda like the Knicks too, so, I get that. About da Suns10/11, I think youre on point with Childress, but I dont like Turk for them, unless it was a kinda one year rental, hes outta shape, lazy a$$ does not work for them..he was made for the Magic, who I kinda like too, cause D12 protected him and that 3/5 P&R was DEADLY. hope we meet in the playoffs next year

    So. What.

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

Actually SLB, I wouldn’t put it past Nash and the Suns if they can utilize Hedo to the most of his capability. With him and Grant, they can basically run with two point forwards in the starting lineup. Not sure how that’ll work out on the defensive end, but c’mon this is the Suns; defense are for squares lol. Offensively I see a LOT more running which makes me excited about them.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

he cant really run but I agree with u, hell play better cause they have great chemestry, and allways recoup veterans better than anyone…and, like you said, he doesnt knoe what D means, so, Suns seems kinda right, even though they have 5 SF right now..hey Jukai what you want for Dudley? ill SERIOUSLY GIVE YOU FERNANDEZ!

  • http://dsfjklfl.com Jukai

Melvin Ely: I’m not sure if Josh picked up any tangible skills from his European vacation. I watched him a couple of times (games were more entertaining than I expected) and Josh really killed some cats with his superior athleticism and the way he ran the floor. He’s definitely WAY more polished than he was when he was on the Hawks, but I wouldn’t expect to see an entirely different Childress. Just a Childress who is slightly better in most areas (except passing… really, don’t expect that at all)
Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers: Dudley is my new favorite Sun whose name doesn’t start with an N and end with ash. He replaces Raja Bell in my heart. And you’d have to wrestle him from my cold, dead body (or outbid us in free agency because Sarver wont bid for f*$#ing anything).

  • DMC14

    More Threes from hedo too.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Been a long time since I watched that guy play..

As a fellow Suns fan (but not notably known for it online) I’m interested to see just where the Suns go from here, without Amar’e. I’ve followed Nash from his PHX start and over to Dallas and then back to PHX and love the teams identity behind his and Hills leadership.
With the departure of Stoudemire and Barbosa the offense will have to go looking for 30+ points a night (or there abouts). This isn’t a MASSIVE short coming but, putting together pieces that retain some of the best chemistry in the league (this could mirror the Bell/Diaw trade fiasco?) could be the undoing of things. QUESTION: Does Hedo Turkoglu and Childress have the people-skills to fill those shoes??????? We’ll find out.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Now with Amar’e gone, I think Shaq could really benefit with the Suns. Phoenix, I guess has some great personal trainers, and the key is no longer clogged.. (Frye likes to shoot outside the key).. Anyone else??

  • costas

childress was a bust in Europe but i guess you guys considered him to be pretty good when he was over there before, so what can i say.

He throws the ball as if it has a bomb in it! Cant shoot to save his life and can only drive when the lane is wide open as he’s very weak. Should have signed Kleiza. He’s cheaper and better.

  • andrew

no brainer for josh to sign on the dotted line.

this trade makes me have to poop
