Survey: Kobe Bryant is Popular

According to some survey — which compiled the opinions of about 2000 folks — Kobe is a well-liked athlete. Reports the AP: “Tiger Woods has dropped into a tie with Kobe Bryant as the favorite American sports star. Woods had held the position alone since 2006, but the Los Angeles Lakers guard moved up from fourth last year to grab a share of the top spot, Harris Interactive said Tuesday. LeBron James dropped from third to sixth in the company’s survey of 2,227 adults conducted online June 14-21, before he left Cleveland to sign with Miami. Retired NBA star Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh. Yankees captain Derek Jeter moved up one spot to third and quarterback Brett Favre went from ninth to fourth. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning was fifth, up from seventh. New England quarterback Tom Brady, who failed to make the top 10 last year, was at No. 8, followed by New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Jr.”

Rings cause selective memory. The only way to get back in good graces is win and win some more. Take notes Lebron!

    Kobe the rapist.

  • karma Posted: Jul.21 at 10:32 am
Kobe’s done a remarkable job of building his image back up. I think its because people know that his main concern is winning, unlike guys like Lebron who like to make everything a spectacle. You know, its funny, all these years we kept getting Lebron shoved down our throats, but in reality, any way you measured it (jersey sales, surveys, rings), Kobe’s always been a step ahead. The media got this one wrong.

  • karma Posted: Jul.21 at 10:33 am
And no he wouldnt earn #1 on most hated, that would be Lebron James right about now.

  • Kap Posted: Jul.21 at 10:36 am
@Karma…I never realized that but its so ironic how true it is.

Must be from that damn pop-up ad on your site. Kobe. Stop Squintin’

  • The Nupe Posted: Jul.21 at 1:01 pm
This goes to show people have short-term memories. Kobe is a rapist at worst, an adulterer at best and proven (on video and by player accounts) not to be a very positive or liked teammate. But now that he’s lead his team to two championships that’s all forgotten? I guess tiger can re-gain #1 after a few wins then. It’s one thing to appreciate an athletes ability on the field/court etc. and to see them bring your team a ring/trophy, but I wonder how character comes to play? Have people really forgotten what Tiger/Kobe have done to keep them in the top 10 or does it just not matter? Oh well, guess it doesn’t really matter. Congrats Kobe.

  • riggs Posted: Jul.21 at 1:15 pm
@James the swallower: Im actually right here you idiot, also tiger is tied with kobe…tiger woods, that says all it needs to.

  • jay Posted: Jul.21 at 1:27 pm
for all the haters…kobe has faults..sure..so does everyone….what has lebron done?? great win 50 games get bounced in the playoffs and act like a baby like zeke when he finally lost to the bulls….i dont hate lebron but let him win something and than we can put him in the discussion…now since he is dwayne wade’s number 2…great..win 5 and you are scottie pippen 2k..congrats!!! have fun playing 2nd banana!

  • Kap Posted: Jul.21 at 1:32 pm
Its pretty low for people who are not fans of Kobe to call him a rapist…there are some disgusting people that comment on here. Have some class please.

  • riggs Posted: Jul.21 at 1:46 pm
    ok, how about woman molester?

  • The Nupe Posted: Jul.21 at 1:46 pm
What’s most surprising to me is that Jordan went from 2nd to 7th, maybe because of his HOF speach? Also, although Favre had a good season, he’s been like a drama queen again about making a decision to return or not, I’m surprised he moved up. Manning also had a stellar year and still has a pretty clean image, I would think as an MVP he would be more popular, but maybe that’s because he’s from such a small market. Jeter seems to be maintainng his popularity well over the years, maybe he’s getting the benefit from exposure of being from such a large market.

  • The Nupe Posted: Jul.21 at 1:49 pm
Kap, how about the Kobe fans that call him a rapist? I don’t agree with calling him a rapist as a fan or not, but since it never came to trial – we’ll never really know. Which is in my earlier post i said rapist at worst and adulterer at best.

  • Kap Posted: Jul.21 at 1:58 pm
I was not trying to call anyone out but I disagree with guys playing “Scarlet Letter” with this guy on this website. He made a mistake and he paid for it unlike any other athlete except maybe Tiger or OJ with the public scrutiny (Scarlet Letter). This is a place to get away from the gossip and tabloid stories and talk about basketball but sometimes it becomes name calling and gossiping. Thats all I’m saying.

  • Kap Posted: Jul.21 at 2:04 pm
But Riggs comment @ 1:46 was funny as hell…

Don’t love Kobe, but respect the hell out of his game. Cannot say the same thing for Lebron right about now. Weird times, man. Weird times.

  • Moose Posted: Jul.21 at 3:39 pm
I believe that this is factually incorrect. BS.

  • Reflex Posted: Jul.21 at 4:46 pm
Ball don’t lie. Kobe is your favourite baller’s favourite baller, please believe that.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Jul.21 at 4:54 pm
absolutely hate kobe as a person.. rapist.. cheater.. complete douch.. but man i cant help but respect his game.. anyone who denies his games is great is completely ignorant

  • unrel Posted: Jul.21 at 5:01 pm
people throw around ‘rapist’ like it’s nothing.. it’s a stupid argument.. obviously, he didn’t do it.. he messed with a groupie with an agenda.. he cheated.. but what celeb doesn’t (not saying it’s right).. shawn kemp has all those kids.. but you guys call him the best dunker.. jkidd beats his wife.. top 4 pg of all time.. kobe throws his team under the bus.. every star/team capt has.. the Reality Show era of basketball fans make me laugh..

  • karma Posted: Jul.21 at 5:05 pm
@ Nupe It was 7 years ago. Kobe is not the first, nor the last athelete, to have done something like that. It was a mistake. Let it go. The man clearly reformed after that experience. If you read the facts of the case, you would know how shady the girl in question really was, but whatever, I’m not gonna get into that. As far as the “liked teammate”, his teammates DO like him, otherwise they wouldn’t play so hard for him, but even if they didn’t, who gives a crap?? They just won 2 rings together…look what being liked by your teammates did to Lebron and Dwight. What a stupid arguement you present. Watch the man play ball, appreciate his talent. You’ll miss him when he’s gone, haters.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Jul.21 at 5:16 pm
Kobe’s the head of his class. He’s popular.

Dont particularly like kobe(dude has killed my team too many times) but you gotta respect his game and succes. He just keeps proving the haters wrong. These days the more LBJ opens his mouth the better kobe looks.

  • Brad Long Posted: Jul.21 at 9:52 pm
I always wonder if the people who call Kobe a rapist know that the accuser had 7 different people’s semen in the underwear she turned in for evidence. That should be a triva question!

  • The Seed Posted: Jul.21 at 10:39 pm
People calling Kobe a rapist must live in glass houses. The case was dropped. The girl bragged at a party about having fun with Kobe, had multiple stuff in her article of clothing, and the hotel manager who seen her afterward, stated she thought the girl was lieing to the officers. Who drops a case to win money anyways about being taken advantage of.

  • hobbes Posted: Jul.22 at 6:24 am
Y’all need to visit other countries. Kobe is the biggest icon in basketball all over the world after MJ. Every kid in Beijing is wearing his kicks. Ask the other Dream team members who got the biggest praises in 2008 Olympics? Lebron has to win at least 3 or 4 rings to be in that popular class all over the world and he decided to join Miami accordingly.

  • Ken Posted: Jul.22 at 7:07 am
Winning forgives everything in America, including r**e. That’s messed up.

  • Rohjean Posted: Jul.26 at 9:58 pm
So Kobe’s a rapist, and what are all you haters out there… Puritanical hypocrites? Yeah, none of you ever made a mistake, you’re all perfect or simply cloaking your bigotry within your stupid accusations.

  • Tyler Posted: Aug.13 at 6:42 pm
Kobe is a beast and to all you haters you obviously don’t know bball so go jump on the Heat bandwagon.
