Tracy McGrady to Work Out for the Clippers

The Clip Show’s GM confirms that T-Mac will indeed try to convince L.A.’s other team to sign him: “Just got off phone with with Clippers’ Neil Olshey. Clips bringing in Tracy McGrady in next week, in Los Angeles, to work out for them.”

Good luck…I guess. In limited minutes with the Knicks he was alright, he has become a good assist man.

  • Hussman25 Posted: Jul.15 at 9:36 am
Interesting… Not too much of a risk. Could be very, very high reward if he’s in shape, healthy (knee wise) and properly motivated…

Smart move. He is capable of a 15/4/3 line. If the Clips get him for well beyond the mid level..good option along with Eric Gordon in the backcourt.

  • jumpman3224 Posted: Jul.15 at 10:01 am
I hope they sign him and he starts at the 3 and contributes, but this has disaster written all over it.

  • nicko Posted: Jul.15 at 10:05 am
@jumpan ^ anything with clippers written on it also has disaster written on it

  • hobbes Posted: Jul.15 at 10:05 am
T-Trash is a joke. Ask any Houston fan~

  • WangChung Posted: Jul.15 at 10:10 am
Baron, Eric Gordon, Tmac, Blake, and Kaman. Not too shabby of a starting lineup. Things can only get better for the Clips.

This guy is poisonous, I would stay away from him even if he played for the minimum (which he won’t). It won’t be long before he has “nagging injuries” or complains about his minutes.

  • J Posted: Jul.15 at 10:34 am
Nice.. hopefully he could FINALLY return to at least a very good vet a la Grant Hill.

  • niQ Posted: Jul.15 at 10:39 am
I think if T-Mac wants to stay healthy he should find a way to the Suns. No offense to the Clips but, they have a pretty bad injury history. I fear the moment he signs the contract his pen will break along with his knees and ankles.

  • Seth Posted: Jul.15 at 10:58 am
Who thinks he hurts himself at the workout?

  • dirty frank Posted: Jul.15 at 11:00 am
The workout consisted of walking up the court without a cane

  • Quail Posted: Jul.15 at 11:00 am
@WangChung: i dont think T-Mac would start at the 3 over Aminu. Thats why the clippers drafted him. Then they could have Butler backing him up if they resign him. I honestly would like to see T-Mac go to the Cavaliers since they lost LeBron. I think it could work.

  • ab_40 Posted: Jul.15 at 11:00 am
All the best to him. That means three guys who can create for themselves and two who are great at creating for others. AKA buckets for griffin and kaman. I like this move.

  • MikeC. Posted: Jul.15 at 11:28 am
@niQ – you beat me to that one. Playing for the Clips has a way of seriously injuring the healthiest of young players. Going in with a serious pre-existing injury spells doom for McGrady’s body. This could very well kill him.

  • Gerwin Posted: Jul.15 at 12:12 pm
Co-sign nicko. The same counts for McGrady though.

  • The Nupe Posted: Jul.15 at 12:22 pm
IF/When healthy Tmac still has serious game and causes mathup problems. Limit his minutes and use him during crunch time, Tmac would be a great pick. I just hope they don’t try to make him a featured players where they want to run offense through him. Even if his knees are better, too much of a risk at this point. If he makes it through the season then extend his minutes and role during playoffs. I’m really just curious about how they’ll structure his contract. Will they put in some clause about if he plays more than so many games/minutes he’ll get a bonus etc.

  • WangChung Posted: Jul.15 at 12:23 pm
@Quail: Al Farouq has all the physical gifts you could ask for, but he’s raw and he’s a rook. I’m with the scouts that felt that he really could have benefited from another year at Wake. With that said, the only way Aminu is starting over T-Mac is if that knee starts acting up again.

  • Homie Posted: Jul.15 at 12:42 pm
I hope this happens. They deserve each other, and yes I mean that in the worst possible way.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Jul.15 at 12:48 pm
could be a good deal but it seems as if in this point in his career he has proved to be washed up.. it wont be long before he gripes bout not getting enough touches or before his injuries catch up to him.. but then again he could prove me wrong he could come to L.A. and contribute well.. just dont see this ending well.. would rather see him in phoenix or hell maybe even the thunder if they would take the risk (which they wont)

  • Jay Posted: Jul.15 at 1:30 pm
go to the cavs and try to make Cleveland something to cheer about

  • asmatic asiatic 02 Posted: Jul.15 at 1:49 pm
I’m pulling for tmac, knee injuries are no joke. I have a bad ACL and a year after surgery My game is no where near what it used to be. I can only imagine what its like against nba caliber athletes. He could be a solid role player if he’s healthy and is there mentally.

  • ConeyIslander Posted: Jul.15 at 2:01 pm
Would be a nice weapon off the bench if he can keep his ego in check.

  • The Promise Posted: Jul.15 at 2:49 pm
Loved T-Mac since the Orlando days, hope he gets healthy, I’ll root for him wherever he goes.

  • a_whiteman Posted: Jul.15 at 2:55 pm
Go to miami and play 20-25mpg and win a title. Do you REALLY need 5-8 mill more?

  • Pardeep Posted: Jul.15 at 4:19 pm
The best fit for him is the Raptors.

  • robz Posted: Jul.15 at 4:22 pm
cmon TMAC go to MIAMI !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Donovan Posted: Jul.15 at 4:45 pm
When you have to “workout” for the Clippers thats when your career has hit rock bottom. smh.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.15 at 5:11 pm
Im still rooting for him, good things. Its all grant hills fault

  • Mr. Quagmire165 Posted: Jul.15 at 5:18 pm
bottom line is, we got money and who else is out there to pick up?

  • J-MAC Posted: Jul.15 at 5:27 pm
T-Mac is washed up jus like AI and a lot of these other FORMER stars that are still chasing a pipe dream. NBA is a young mans game. THese old kats need to let it GO!

  • blue Posted: Jul.15 at 6:55 pm
i figured new york was the last straw for tmac.how many teams can he play for.it just seems its a sad story when the guy is looking to play for a winner, and instead has to possibly play for 2 of the worst teams in the nba.how the mighty have fallen.i wish tmac all the best, but maybe he needs the money right now to help assist his lavish lifesytle,i dont know, but to stoop this low at this stage of his career is a slap in the face.he wants a ring, but its looking like a long awaiting dream.

  • Purple & Gold Posted: Jul.15 at 8:06 pm
I’s stay clear of the Clippers if I were him. With his & their bad luck dude will end suffering a career ending injury during the workout. Also Donald T. Sterling the worst owner in the history of professional sports is just looking to use him to draw in some fans and sell more tickets because he knows TMac has legions of slurpers out there who will still pay to see him play.

  • Waylonakolipse Posted: Jul.15 at 8:26 pm
    Washed. Up.

  • al Posted: Jul.15 at 8:31 pm
    washed up..on venice beach?

  • Coffeebean Posted: Jul.15 at 9:02 pm

  • jj Posted: Jul.15 at 9:54 pm

  • G I I Posted: Jul.15 at 10:14 pm
clips always look pretty good in pre-season…

  • COGGIE Posted: Jul.15 at 10:26 pm
@ the nupe, ur talking about the playoffs we are talking about the clippers. be realistic thanks.

  • JE Posted: Jul.15 at 11:12 pm
I just can’t wrap my head around how people can trash a player for being injured. People are a.ssholes.

  • Hursty Posted: Jul.15 at 11:40 pm
I just want him to play healthy and 100% again. It’s hard to watch a childhood idol reduced to a shadow of himself.

  • Eduardo Posted: Jul.16 at 3:03 am
His prime days are long gone but will still go for him to do well in this Clippers Team. Young Clippers team has potential if BDiddy and TMac play marginally to their potential. Eric Gordan and Griffin are awesome.

  • Lazarus Posted: Jul.16 at 4:55 am
    im with everyone else MIAMI!!!!

  • Ricardo Posted: Jul.17 at 1:39 am
31 is an old man? That’s funny. I guess Kome should retire then because he is older than T-Mac. I am sure you probably said Grant Hill was washed up a few years back and look at him.
