Travis Outlaw, Nets Agree To Five Years, $35M

The Nets have agreed to a five-year, $35 million contract with Travis Outlaw. The former Blazers backup could very well be the Nets’ ‘Plan B’ if they don’t land LeBron: “Forward Travis Outlaw has agreed to a five-year, $35 million deal with the New Jersey Nets, his agent, Bill Duffy, told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher.”

Good signing, trav is a solid 1 on 1 defender and has pretty damn good athleticism with a knack for hitting tough mid range jumpers. Not a great player by any means but definitely a solid role player for a great price.

No LeBron so Plan B is Travis Outlaw?! Let the Nets dynasty begin…hahaha

great pick up contract a little too high (but maybe thats cause of the years involved)

I’ve always liked Outlaw in Portland, but also felt he was underappreciated there since he never really had many chances to start. Should be good in New Jersey, but his playing time could be taken from Damion James. That dude has been making noise in the Summer League. Terrence Williams too! But back to Outlaw… GET THAT MONEY!

I’m going to sending some “Male Enhancement” e-mails to that unlucky commenter.

Nice move by New Jersey. They are putting together a solid squad.

I think I’m one of the few Nets fans who likes this signing. Also: if you guys haven’t noticed: Nets rookie Damion James is killing it in the Summer League, so he and Travis Outlaw manning the SF position for the next couple of years is a good thing. I never thought we’d get LeBron anyway, and I;ve been following Outlaw for the last couple of years and always liked what he brought with the Blazers. He’s a guy that shoot 3′s, block, score, rebound and run (and sometimes throw down some pretty nasty jams). I like him, and I’m glad to see some positive comments here. (and as expected, some mocking as well). I’m positive, but also realistic, both of these qualities are things a lot of Nets fans are lacking.

nice move, really they are doing things the right way over there. Avery Johnson, Sam Mitchell, maybe Kevin Pritchard. Just watching the summer league games Terrence Williams looks like he can bust out at any minute, extremely versatile from 1 to the 3. Now you talk about Harris, Williams, Travis Outlaw, Derrick Favors, Brook Lopez….thats a starting 5 right there. I fully expect Avery Johnson to take the Nets to the playoffs this year, thats how good this team can be. So much potential

Well we have less than 5 years to go. lol Alot can happen. Great pickup. That Mikhail dude seems do be doing good for now

I’m not mad at this move either. Like Gerard Himself said I wasn’t sold on the Nets chances of getting Lebron (nor did I really want them to pursue him but I digress.) The Nets made a bigger mistake in letting the better free agent 4s go IMO but they need players that can score on the wing as well. With that in mind here’s hoping Derrick Favors and Terrance Williams can live up to their potential down the line.

Was expecting to see alot of hate in here, nope, just sarcasim… Glad to see dude get paid and have a chance to play on an “up and coming” young team.. Was hoping Portland would pick him back up,(according to facebook, thats what he wanted) Oh well, wish him the best..

i still think lebron has alot of reasons to go to the nets aside from the whole move to brooklyn and his marketing obession, he could go to this solid team and make it HIS as opposed to following d wade like a dog.

if not i love this move and i love the fact that nets are building with solid players and development. i live in toronto and we are supposed to hate the nets (first because of carter and now just cause they are division rivals) but i actually prefer the nets…solid team, love devin harris, brook lopez, courtney lee, in the words of shaq, is going to be a “STAR”. you nets fans are lucky!

  • thefroh

That’s a big contract for a guy who can’t remember who he’s guarding.

Heh travie is actually a really good defender you just have to have a simple defensive scheme. He doesn’t have a great basketball iq and can’t process all the intricacies of the game. Its a gift and curse, when he is pulling up in the 4th for shot clock beater that focus helps tremendously. But he could never run the triangle thats for sure lol.
