Vegas: Miami Heat are the Championship Favorites

Some of the oddsmakers in Sin City quickly placed LeBron’s new team at the top of the NBA heap. Reports FanHouse: “The Miami Heat don’t have a complete roster — but with the addition of LeBron James, the club is already the favorite to win next year’s NBA title, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers. After James announced his decision to leave Cleveland last night on ESPN, oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants made Miami the prohibitive favorite to win the NBA title, moving the club’s odds to 4-5 — a massive shift from just a few weeks ago, when Miami was a 25-to-1 long-shot to be the 2010-11 NBA champions. After guard Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh committed to Miami yesterday, oddsmakers at several Vegas sports books moved the Heat’s odds to 6-1, ranking them as the second most-likely NBA champion after the Los Angeles Lakers, who began today as 7-2 favorites. After James’ move to Miami, however, the Lakers odds moved to 5-1, according to Sean Van Patten, an oddsmaker at Las Vegas Sports Consultants, which provides point spreads and gambling information to all the major casinos. ‘Our thinking is with LeBron joining two All-Stars, Miami becomes the best team in the league,’ he said.”

Dan Gilbert says all you Vegas guys are retarded.

  • Kendrick is God

if they lose a game i will jump off a bridge

  • Craig Hodges

    yeah champions of marketing sales

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

No they aren’t, this is dumb. Next season this may make sense, but not for this one. They’ll be good, real good, but it will take Herculean efforts by all three to get a title this year with the limited pieces they’ll have. Although, Mike Miller is going to thrive. Once they have the mid-level exception next season to fill out the roster a bit more, and a full year of playing together, then and only then will the potential dynasty start. That’s the realest I can be.

  • Kap

These guys in Vegas do know that there is more to winning than having three all stars? Like defense, rebounding, bench play, injuries, coaching, and matchups.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Vegas must have found out Gary Payton, Antoine Walker, and Alonzo Mourning are ready to make a comeback with the Heat. lol

  • kudos

More like Vegas want’s everyone to bet the house on Miami, then lose everything. The public will love to bet on this team, but championships?!? Celts, Orl, and Lakers still got a better team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Myles Brown

Vegas odds of Myles going to Miami? :EVEN.

  • The Philosopher

I made good money betting this year. But next year is going to be … unbelievable.

  • WangChung

Agree with the posters above, but if there’s one thing that we can take from this free agent madness, it’s that Riley is capable of making a lot of big moves at once. This core of 3 superstars should at the very least guarantee a playoff spot. And let’s not forget, Wade is capable of getting a ring despite having mostly deadweight for teammates. Now he has superstars.

  • LD

I don’t think Boston can make another run like last season. Oralndo will fall apart again. Miami can definately make it to the finals.

  • namik

Sorry but shouldn’t that be “Dwayne’s new team”?

  • dub31582

They still need a legitimate big man and a bench. This year is definitely out, especially with Boston picking up Jermaine O’Neal. I don’t think Miami should have let Beasely go….

  • http://hoopmixtape.ning.com/ Simon S.Y Lawy

so, who’s the GO TO GUY now ??? wade, choke, bosh???

  • The Philosopher

    I don’t even need parlays next year. I just don’t. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The LAKERS will win the title next year.
    BOOK IT!!

I answered your 9:34 a.m. comment on the last post, if you didn’t see it.

@ LD: no one ever thinks the C’s can make the runs they have recently. that’s why it’s so fun to watch when they do.

  • unrel

who cares.. all i know is that 2k11 is going to be a bunch of BS.. because everyone will be using the Heat.. f’n bitches..

  • http://alan.george@gmail.com Breeze

THIS TEAM WONT WIN FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS.. THE LAKERS WILL WIN THIS YEAR. NEXT YEAR THE ORLANDO WILL TRADE VINCE FOR BRANDON ROY AND BEAT THEM AGAIN. SO WHAT ARE WE LEFT WITH? ONE HELL OF A MEMORIAL DAY IN SOUTH BEACH>>!

  • Yesse

Not to me. Lakers and Celtics could still beat them. I mean, Heat has the best player, but who knows how well will they play together. There might be alot of issues.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Eboy, not falling for your attempt to lower your team’s expectations.
Your guys are the favourites. If they don’t win the title, it’s a failure. It will reflect most poorly on LeBron, and to a certain extent Bosh and Wade.
F*ck the bench. When’s the last time one team had 2 of the league’s top 3 players, and 3 of the league’s top 10 on one team?
Yea, thought so. Your boys better win.
    Don’t even pretend otherwise.

  • Vince5

Back in ’07, we didn’t know if the Big 3 in Boston would have worked at all. Next thing we know, they won a championship the first year they were together. Maybe it will happen again, who knows?

  • ciroqobama

@Breeze- Easy with the fn CAPS! I thought it was Dan Gilbert posting for a second….

  • http://slamonline.com JL

basically all three will play 1st and 4th quarters, with the 2nd and 3rd quarters mostly only featuring two of the all stars at a time to save some breath. that’ll bring them to about 36+ minutes a game. they can’t tire them out for the regular season because then they’ll lose the post season, what lebron was trying to avoid anyway. interesting to see what the bench will be. mike miller is great, but they need some more.

  • WangChung

In truth, they could probably call up D-leaguers and do all right. There’s plenty of time to build this team up. I mean, we’re already talking championships one day after ‘Bron’s ‘decision’. With that said, this is not a team you want to play in the playoffs.

  • The D Train

How many years did it take the Celtics to win the title after adding KG and Ray? And I don’t thing PP or the other 2 were considered 2 of the top 3 dudes in the league. The Heat are going to be starting 3/5 of the Eastern Conference All Stars. You can’t pillage the biggest talents available, then say, “well, give us some time to figure it out.” That is not a luxury you are afforded. As I noted in another post, congrats on getting all of the 3 biggest FA’s, now accept the pressure that comes with being favorites and do something positive with it.

  • monkeyball

I love that some people have started calling the 2011 Heat the HMS Miami Heat, as in “Holy Motherf**king Sh*t!” Miami Heat.

  • T-Money

E: you’re selling them short. If the play LeBron at the 1 on offense with Wade and Miller on the wings. Wow. With CB4 running down the court? Lakers only went 8 deep this year with Farmar and Brown barely getting 15 mins a game. Depth is overrated in basketball. Name me a team that won because of depth? What has depth done for the TrailBlazers? It don’t matter if you can sub in/out Rudy, Martell and Travis.. none of em are better than Kob nahmean.

  • c_cantrell

they do become the favs and miller also becomes the
early fav to win 6th man of the year because he will
obviously have to play alot since the heat have no one
else to step up besides the big 3

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

You guys are simpleminded. They are not the favorites. they are in the mix, but they are not #1. If they smoke LA in both regular season matchups then maybe there will something to it, but y’all ain’t goading me…..sorry.

  • AJBALLER

lebron and wade will have to learn to share the spot light and if they do that then mabye they will win it but the heat dont have a point guard cus chalmers sucks

  • http://directorsmallz20@yahoo.com directorsmallz11@yahoo.com

I just think they will be good but to say championship right away like other teams have not gotten any better.well the west stayed pretty much the same.the east got stronger.not sayin those teams will win but it does make for a ougher season .last time i checked though who is gonna be the point or rondo that will be unselfish and make the three happy. They need to sign a halfway decent point then get some offensive bech pieces and defensive.what happens when the three are not in the game.just think of it this way to be a contender it helps if they can limt the heroc antics.three top teams in the east this season heat, celrics, bulls

Eboy: I guess it’s easier as a heat fan to think your way, or at least portray it as such.
We’ll see what happens in the upcoming season. It will be fun to watch.
PS: Hope you guys choke :)

  • kousinkar

Only team that I could see stopping the Evil Empire is the Lakers with 100% Bynum. DWade and Lebron aren’t just superstars, they’re unselfish superstars who we’ve seen elevate the play bench players to all-stars (Mo Williams). Between DWade and Lebron, how many backdoor alley-oops are we going to see per game?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Funnily, just a month ago, non-Lakers fans were hoping beyond hope that ANYONE would beat THEM because they were the Evil Empire. Now it’s on us. Good, I like the role of the enemy.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The latest news about Riley working out a sign and trade makes them the favorites, in my opinion. They cop Barnes, Haslem and Dorell Wright and it’s on for real.

  • WangChung

Getting Barnes and Haslem would be an excellent start. Between the two of them, they could guard studs from positions 1-4, and possibly small 5′s. Don’t forget, Haslem single-handedly shut down Dirk in ’06.

  • c_cantrell

@eboy.. im not simple minded and i regard myself as
a much more intelligent man than u (basketball wise)..
your comments are usually worthless and too many times
have nothing to do with the article and your profanity
is unquestionbly immature.. you do not know much about
the nba or basketball in general and base everything u
say on direct statements from the articles or other ppls
comments.. u do not have much knowledge of the game to
base your own posts on.. there are many young ppl who get
on this site daily and read your vulgar comments? not
really the best example bro.. do everyone who gets on this
site a favor and jus stop commenting if u cant do it
without including that trash.. grow up

  • jammal o

Lakers better not be done. they need to make more moves

  • http://Badnewzb8ller badnewzballer

Lakers need another small forward and some shooters.

  • d

The heat need a point guard, center, sixth man, and a bench. The laker’s could stay the same and they’re still the favorites to win again. (I’m not talking about vegas odds, or the common basketball fan.)

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

The Miami Heat getting these three players has made Eboy the worst commentor here.
How is ‘everyone else’ the slurping haters again?

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Allenp: They need a center bad. I’m sure they can find some all-D no-O guys from the D-League, but if they can’t, that might be their one weakness

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

They don’t need a point because that’s what Lebron should be in. A Lebron-Wade-Miller-Bosh-C lineup would be magnificent… plus who better to teach Lebron how to be an oversized one guard than the guy who taught Magic?

  • kudos

I think this is starting to look like the 04′ olympic team. Think about it. These losers still play no defense. Including Wade.

  • WangChung

@Jukai: When going to a bigger lineup, sure. ‘Bron is a very capable passer with good court vision, for his size. But his ballhandling ability is certainly not CP3,Deron,Nash,Magic level. Can’t wait to see how it works out tho. He does have excessive size and speed for the position.

  • ClydeSays

I just keep thinking about JWill’s claim that the 06-07 Heat teams ‘partied every night’. You think Lebron and Bosh might get a little distracted
    coming from relatively sleepy cities?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

c_cantrell is trolling other posters on here, kick his butt off.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

And, Eboy is right, even though he is hated on more than anybody else on this site seem like, but, the Lakers are the champs, and I’m no Laker fan, but, they are the champs until someone unseats them, and I feel like they have earned the right to be the favorite, since the have repeated and all.

  • The D Train

Here’s what I don’t get: Eboy and Heat fans will sit there and “bask in the hate,” but then turn around and say “we’re not the favorites…give us time to gel.” So Vegas makes them the favorites, and they have 2 of 3 best players in the league, and Heat fans will talk out one end of their mouth saying “hate us, we love it” and then talk out the other end and say “we’re not the favs.” Really? You cannot have it both ways. You can’t have the pomp and circumstance, then distance yourself from it when it comes to expectations. Oh wait, maybe Miami is the perfect place for Lebron if that is the case.

Questions for all u lbj haters. The cavs had the best record in the nba this past two seasons. Take lebron out of that line up the cavs would a lottery team. Dan gilbert u ungrateful bastard. U used lbj to market your team and made millions off his name. The fact that he stayed there for seven years u should b kissing his feet. Like jouaquim noah, “who wants to live in cleveland”. Talk about that he quit during the playoffs , u ungrateful bastard. U don’t put talents around him that’s reason he had to drop a triple double almost every game for the cavs to win. You know how much energy it takes to lead your team in points rebounds and assist. By the time the playoffs come around he is burned out when he is playing a complete team like the celtics. He did not quit jackass discourage woul b a better word. The best player you had playin with him was moe william. And moe william at his best is above average player who plays no defense at all, can’t create his own shot, can’t rebound and cannot make other players better. How many times did rondo go by moe williams with no resistance. How come u did not say that he quits. U just mad because u cashcow left and your revenue will drop. Out of all the free agents who did u sign none. No one wants to play in cleveland. That place is depressing. U are mad cause the table is turned on you. U just wanted him to abuse his body and mess up his knees so that u can turn around and ship him out. Your boy bron is smarter than that. To say that the cavs will win a championship before the heat u must b delusional and fooling yourself. Ding Dong your cash cow is gone. Long live the king

  • zop

that’s right anti-Laker/fierce Miami fans, say that Miami’s the next champs. Kobe relishes challenges

  • rich

well depth really doesnt matter if they get mike miller, ledwosh is gonna kill most teams for 40 mins so the other 8 mins arent really as important, especially considering they will take breaks at spererate times, im sure a team as good as last years heat can hold out till the other all nba team guys come back on

  • Lakers 2010 champs

I think Pat Riley should suit up for the Heat so they have a bench to go along with the 3 superstars. LOL!

  • Lakers 2010 champs

Championships have to be earned. Just acquiring superstars does not equate an automatic championship. Let’s wait until the end of next season and see who’s holding the trophy before we declare the Heat as champions! Get my drift???

  • Lakers 2010 champs

I wouldn’t count out the Kobe and Pau Lakers anytime soon. You think they’re gonna bow down now after the Heat’s acquisitions! They will only get better!

  • Lakers 2010 champs

Still trying to figure out how the Heat was able to sign these 3 players for over 300 million. It seems impossible. Did someone drop money out of the sky over South Beach? And now they’re close to signing Mike Miller for almost 30 mil as well. Don’t know about anyone else but I’m completely baffled. Never heard of anything like this!
