Wade After 2nd Meeting: ‘Getting Very Interesting’

Wade, Bulls talk again; LeBron on deck.

by Ryne Nelson

The Bulls had a busy day Friday.

Chicago execs met with Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, David Lee and, in a surprising development, with Dwyane Wade for the second time in two days.

A source told the Chicago Tribune that the Bulls are hoping to convince Wade they can sign one of the premier power forwards (preferably Bosh, with Boozer or Lee presumably as the back-up plan) to add to a core featuring Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah.

Sources said the Bulls contacted Wade’s camp again early Friday morning and Wade agreed to a second meeting. “He was very impressed by the first meeting,” one source said. “He’s really taking free agency seriously.”

Wade says the 2nd meeting, which lasted 2 1/2 hours, was mutually agreed upon. He told the AP: “Things are getting very interesting,” but shrugged when asked if the Bulls had made him an offer.

The Tribune also reported a long-shot, dream scenario early Friday wherein the Bulls engineer a sign-and-trade for one maximum free agent, thus preserving their nearly $30 million in salary-cap space for two other significant free agents, which could even include James.

The Bulls appear to be at the epi-center of the free-agency game, and Wade and Bosh are real possibilities for the Bulls at this point.

A source told ESPN that, “Wade is unclear how the Heat, who currently have just two players under contract, will be able to build a championship contender around him given salary-cap constraints.”

While the Bulls meet this afternoon with LeBron in Akron, Wade is scheduled to meet with the Heat in Chicago. This could be an interesting meeting after all the time he’s spent with the Bulls, although the Bulls were not able to get a commitment from Wade.

    THE KING… WADE.

  • slamfan4life

Chi is really tryin hard, I know the bulls are going to get someone of allstar status….if we almost pried Kobe in 2004 why not anyone of these guys

  • The D Train

Man, Eboy would lose his mind if Wade up and bolted from Miami. Having said that, I’ll believe it when I see it. Wade, along with Dirk, seems like the least likely FA to move on, even if a second meeting and unnamed sources touting Chicago has made the chase a little more interesting.

Interesting….Very interesting. NO it isnt as a heat fan this will either give me a heartattack by the end of the weekend and if dwyane goes to chicago I will never ever utter the word chicago ever again!

I think adding Wade and Bosh may be better than adding LeBron and Bosh. I would rather have a lineup of Rose, Wade, Deng, Bosh and Noah than Rose, some below average shooting guard, LeBron, Bosh and Noah. The Bulls need a scoring two guard…that’s Wade.

  • Dude

This is as unloyal as a player can get. U play for a team where u made many playoff appearances, u win a title and the finals mvp, u team up with shaq, u have pat riley as a president and u are the franchise’s face. Wade, if u wanna be compared to the basketball greats then u need to stick to south beach. if u dont then u are the biggest traitor ever, u will ruin ur reputation as an unloyal player. Remember, this is the heat family. U are a part of it.

  • http://twincityslim@yahoo.com Jahi

    My predictions:

Lebron James to the NY Knicks
    Chris Bosh to Houston Rockets
    Dwayne Wade to Chicago Bulls
    Amare Stoudamire to NY Knicks
    Joe Johnson to NY Knicks
    Carlos Boozer to Chicago Bulls

    We shall see…

I see his point about Miami being able to building a contender by a complete roster overhaul. That will take more that a couple of seasons. He’s right. Whereas the Bulls can give him a contender right now, if they’re able to add Wade and Bosh. (I just don’t see LBJ leaving Cleveland.) Man, I’ll be glad when this is over. It’ll be a sad day in Miami if Wade leaves.

  • http://slamonline.com Anjoe

@cp3fan, yeah right. That would be better than having lebron with d.rose, noah and the bulls. I think wade and bosh will bill in chicago. I think Bosh is just waiting for dwade or bron to sign and he goes next.

Man, the difference in Miami’s two potential fates is absolutely staggering. In 5 days, they could either have (possibly) the best starting five of all time, or Michael Beasley could be their best player. Mario Chalmers could be their second best player. Damn.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/users/42594-hoops4life Overtime

    JE makes a good point.
Also, remember when Detroit got players in the all-star game? You reckon Miami could get 3 starters? Has any one team done that before?

  • remo williams

    Late 90s lakers

  • http://gmail dirty frank

I think the Lakers had 3 starters in Shaq’s early years there

  • http://gmail dirty frank

    Wait…not 3 ASG starters

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Wait…not 3 ASG starters. I think they had 4 players in the ASG but only 2 starters

  • http://gmail dirty frank

I’m not sold on a Wade/Rose backcourt. They seem like similar players to me. With Rose, Wade, Deng, Bosh and Noah out there there is no spot up 3 point shooter.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

I’m not sold on a Wade/Rose backcourt. They seem like very similar players to me. With Rose, Wade, Deng, Bosh & Noah there’s no spot up 3 point shooter to space the floor and 4 players who like the ball in their hands to make plays.

Sorry for all the repeat posts. It seems I have some cpu issues this am.

  • cp3fan

If LeBron wants to play for championships, he will go to Chicago. If he wants money, he will go to New York. Maybe with the billion dollars, he can buy a ring and pretend that it’s a championship ring lol.

  • cp3fan

LeBron can’t stay in Cleveland and win. Either way, the Bulls will be significantly better. They will either have Wade or Bron. Add Bosh or Boozer and that’s automatically a top 3 team in the East along with Boston and Orlando. Cleveland will need LeBron to be even better than last year if they want to even get to the Eastern Conference Finals. I think that’s weighing heavy on his mind. If he stays in Cleveland, it will be solely because he would hate to leave his home. He knows that he won’t be able to get past the Bulls and Magic with that current Cavaliers team. It will end up being 1 on 5 just like it has been for the past couple of post seasons. You all know that he’s sick of playing by himself in the playoffs.

  • The D Train

Old Bulls stand-by Sam Smith is reporting that Wade does not want to play with Lebron, and possibly only met with Chicago a second time to get Riley to sign Bosh so he could re-up with Miami. The second part makes more sense to me. I don’t trust Wade. After his comments about the Bulls organization “not taking care of its own” a month or two ago, why the hell would he sign with them?

  • The Philosopher

    ^^Interesting.^^

I still don’t understand why these guys are trying to jump on a ship to win while they are in their primes. Why would Lebron and D-Wade want to play together? They are two of the top-three players in the entire league, regardless of position or conference. In Jordan’s shadow, too? Then what happens if they fail to win their fist time out? I can see a tweeked Celtics squad or a healthy Bucks team being strong come playoffs.

  • http://www.twitter.com/Th3_R3al_Chris Th3_R3al_Chris

Also, if this is Wade’s only chance at making $120-million in the NBA then Miami is the only team to sign with for that. I’d like to see Wade and Bosh/Boozer in Miami with the other $20-mil used to surround them with role players. I still think Lebron would be crazy to not join the Knicks, either. He would be immortalized forever in Madison Square Garden and he’s still young enough to allow them to build around him for the next two seasons before really contending. I don’t think they have much of a chance with Amare as his big man, though.

  • http://www.myspace.com/royaltyoftommorow Tommy

honestly, chicago should go for dwade and either boozer or david Lee. I say david lee because a tandem of him and noah on the boards would definitely help start the break. Out of the power forwards, Lee is the least injury prone.

  • http://www.myspace.com/royaltyoftommorow Tommy

first off, DWade would not be deemed unloyal because he left south beach. he brought them their only title so he owes the heat nothing. Secondly, there is 2 players under contract, if they get all 3 like they are trying to get, it will be the big 3, minimum contracts and 2nd round rookies with mario chalmers. 3rd, he’s from chicago and out of all the teams with space, i feel chicago and the clippers have the best teams in place to make a run. I say DWADE go to chicago, but bring david lee with you. Bosh is too injury prone.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I agree with D Train. Wade in Chicago would be lovely, but a part of me thinks Wade is just playing games and getting Riles riled up.

  • ktokyo

maybe that was just a part of his plan to make the others think he’s not going there. Look at all the lies during the draft. GM’s trash certain prospects in the media and then turn around and draft them. It’s all a game.

If DWade doesn’t want to play with Lebron, I think that’s kind of cool. I know that he always felt slighted being mentioned third only after Lebron and Melo all the time. Maybe he’s using that as motivation and wants to play against them. I like it.

  • Chris

Chi town better clear up some more cap space. I can’t see Bosh going there, even with Wade, to play for less than max.

  • Jose

I am Going to kill sum one if this…no i don’t even wanna say it. I understand why he would be interested in Chi-Town, it’s home it’s a good group of players, and i don’t think he would be under Jordan’s shadow as much as if Lebron went, even thought wade’s game is similar to that of MJ. I do hope these are just mind games for Riley

  • o no

Stop saying how “Jordans Shadow” will be over whoever signs with Chicago. That is the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. Based on the “Shadow”, Kobe was playing under Magic Johnson’s shadow his whole career, and the big three in Boston were playing under the original big threes shadow…..

The only people who will even be thinking about Jordan while Lebron is playing are OLD PEOPLE.

Teenagers and young adults don’t care! We just want to see Lebron play well, its not about matching Jordans legacy……. Michael Jordan had his number retired, he didnt sign a contract where after he left nobody could play there who was any good… WTF

Get out of here with that bull, worst argument ever made

  • http://www.slamonline.com Klav

did Jahi really say LBJ, Amare AND JJ to NYK? damn, must have not thought that one out. So all this MJ shadow crap is beyond me, really it’s just dumb. Mike IS the King, never LeBron and he’ll never earn it either. Wade OR LeBron plus Rose is not a good look because of playing style. So I was thinking outside the box and made up my own suggestion. Pick up Lee and some quality players for the bench and a defensive 2. Leave enough cap for a max contract next year. Then for grab a dude from Denver via S/T with Deng. then u got Rose, Defensive Sg (preferably sniper), Melo, Lee, Noah with a decent bench. POW!

  • Scottie Pimpin

sign lee and jo johnson already and lets get this ring….BULLS !

  • nastierthanu

@ dirty frank To clarify the lakers of 96 had 4 all stars. Eddie jones nick van exel kobe bryant and shaq. Kobe started the all star game but didn’t star in the regular season. Kobe caught a sick alley oop from garnett that game

  • BostonBaller

Late breaking news…..Danny Ainge has a meeting 2morrow after church w/ LBJ, DWade, Joe J & 1 other unnamed FA…..The 1st 2 said if we couldn’t beat ‘em we may join ‘em & JJ says he wants to make his 2nd tour in BeanTown work…..All 4 seem to think their signature sleds would look great in Black n Green…..hahahaha

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Above these topics that we can chat about is a box that reads-free agent watch, in yellow letters and pictures of 5 of the top free agents.. As these guys sign with teams, Slam should put an X over their faces..

  • http://www.nba.com/sun Dacre

@O No…technically, Kobe has also been playing under Jordan shadow – he essentially designates himself as the heir to Jordans shadow-y throne.

  • o no

@ Dacre…. Your point is? lol

  • http://twitter.com/flavaklav Klav

    Melo to the Chi!

  • ab_40

This is starting to get boring. I think only Bosh and maybe Boozer and Stoudamire are leaving the rest is staying put. I hope Chris Paul joins a contender. Maybe a three way trade with san antonio and new york because Parker wants to go there. He’s regressed loads the last year and Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tiago Splitter and (insert tough athletic defensive wings name here) is gonna be a great starting line up

  • http://www.thecartagenacondos.com Vic

History! Are these 3 guys interested in chasing history and a legacy(Chicago Bulls, MJ, Pippe) or writing history for a new franchise they can make their own mark on (Miami Heat). Which currently has had a one hit wonder in 2006 but has no championship history like the Bulls, Celtics, Lakers. If they join forces in Miami it doesnt matter if Erik Spoelstea has to suit up at point guard they will win it all. There is enough free agents (Korver, DFisher, SBrown, Nate) to complete the roster. If they dont join forces well just keep enjoying that June view on your flat screen TV of the NBA finals for a while because it will be Celtics & Lakers and maybe Magic & Thunder in a couple of years.

  • Aristotle

Although Chicago would be a great fit for Wade or LeBron, I don’t think Miami was that bad.. I mean Jermaine just came back and played more games than he has in the last few seasons, and did well. Richardson found a bit of his groove back, and Beasley and Chalmers are a year wiser and better, but time to step it up. So Wade really just needs help with one more big name in case it’s dejavu next playoffs. So LeBron just come and help out your friend Dwyane ;) .
