Warriors to Sign Jeremy Lin

Lin, who had a stellar Summer League for the Mavs, is expected to ink with the Warriors (and become immensely popular among their fans.) From the Mercury News: “The Warriors are close to landing a player who is turning out to be a cult figure. Guard Jeremy Lin, a Bay Area native who played at Harvard, is on the verge of signing a two-year deal with the Warriors. Lin, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound combo guard who was undrafted out of Harvard, played for the Dallas Mavericks summer league and piqued the interest of several teams with his play. But the former Palo Alto High School star is signing with the Warriors, his favorite team growing up. Lin’s deal is partially guaranteed this year, and the Warriors hold a team option for the second season. The Warriors need a point guard after trading C.J. Watson to the Chicago Bulls. Lin is going to get his chance to fill that void. The Warriors could still go out and get a veteran point guard. That would allow time for Lin — who has the game of a shooting guard but needs to play point at the pro level — to develop without pressure. Lin would become the first Asian born in the United States to play in the NBA first since San Jose’s Rex Walters, the current University of San Francisco coach.”

Boy, it sucks that he didn’t stay with the Mavs. But, it is awesome that he is signing with his home team. I wish him all the best. Hopefully Nellie will use him in wild 3 guard lineups.

He is going to get alot of playing time….. It seems Don Nelson plays his undrafted players more than his lottery picks (minus curry of course)

I hate that the Lakers dropped the ball in signing Lin but I’m also very happy that he’s getting picked up. Very deserving player. I see good things for this kid…

he’s gonna be a huge fan favorite with the Asian pop. in San Fran

Good to see that you can make the league through hard work and using your smarts even with all the preconceived roadblocks it has. Hope he plays well in the league.

  • niQ Posted: Jul.21 at 10:34 am
    YES! This made my day!
Was kind of hoping Raptors would’ve noticed the kid but ah wells. Congrats Lin!

  • kh Posted: Jul.21 at 10:39 am
I love when guys who know and understand the game get picked up. Let’s hope he can keep up with the athleticism in the L. Good luck Jeremy!

  • nicko Posted: Jul.21 at 10:43 am
Good luck Jeremy, cheers to taking the road less traveled to the NBA

  • niQ Posted: Jul.21 at 11:02 am
Now all I hope is that he actually gets playing time. He should though, since the Warriors were constantly short on players last season. I remember they were so short on players that people who were fouled out were able to come back in. LOL

Too bad. This kid’s a gamer. Would be nice if he developed as Kidd’s protege, but with Monta being the headcase that he is, extra playing time for Lin looks good.

  • Papa Smurf Posted: Jul.21 at 11:23 am
Glad to see he made it. He deserves to.

  • unrel Posted: Jul.21 at 12:29 pm

  • ciroqobama Posted: Jul.21 at 4:09 pm
    Well deserved!

  • horsey Posted: Jul.21 at 4:21 pm
i love that he averaged more than a block a game as a guard and he only fouled out once his senior year. more importantly, he fouled out against Yale so he’s bound to have a mean streak against rivals i him somewhere. having 7 steals, 8 boards and 2 blocks (5 assists, 17 points) in a game isn’t bad either..

  • horsey Posted: Jul.21 at 4:29 pm
last thing, i know highlights are meant to make any player look awesome but he dismantled UCONN at the end of this clip. kid is super long. the nelly song isn’t terrible… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVVzGm8SbOM

Steal of the draft.I’m rooting for him to make the All Rookie 2nd team.

  • Zarfan Posted: Jul.21 at 4:46 pm
Finally, an Asian player who’s not 7 feet. I miss Yuta Tabuse.

Hopefully he’ll develop into a good backup for Curry.

  • davidR Posted: Jul.21 at 9:41 pm
we’ll see. warriors have always been good with their 2nd round picks and scouting undrafted talent

  • XiroNorthsiderz Posted: Jul.21 at 10:49 pm
This guy’s gonna blow up! Big ups!

  • Don Posted: Jul.21 at 11:46 pm
Good signing by Golden State, I believe. If anything, Lin has the potential to become a solid backup PG for many years.

  • roybot Posted: Jul.21 at 11:59 pm
finally, someone repping us Asian_americans. This guy was my idol back at Harvard. They better make a retro “The City” jersey of him for me to cop!

  • BossTerry Posted: Jul.22 at 12:24 am
Thanks for the link Horse… Looks like he will bring some excitment..

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 12:57 am
I think he’ll be better than just a back-up, honestly. I think he’s that good. But for now in just his rookie year, like Reflex said, I hope he can crack All-Rookie 2nd Team. Who knows what’ll happen though.

  • Ronald Posted: Jul.22 at 2:07 am
I’m just sick of people calling Lin a “high” basketball IQ player who is “smart”. It’s true that he has both. But the guy doesn’t rely on these to succeed. He’s athletic as hell and fearless. Now let’s hope he develops a good passing and mid-range game.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 4:49 am
^ True that… His passing is pretty damn good though, because he is a “high” basketball IQ player who is “smart”. Sorry I had to.

  • Ronald Posted: Jul.22 at 5:05 am
Teddy: LOL. I think his drive and dish game is definitely very good. But it’s the half court set passing that I’m worried about.

  • Joel O's Posted: Jul.22 at 6:46 am
I just saw the highlights. This guy looks good. Stereotypes aside, he attacks the rim and his handle is decent. I hope he hangs in the league, if only for the hope that he will someday yell some unspeakable Taiwanese vulgarities while on national TV in the NBA, which would make my century.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 7:02 am
@ niQ: LOL yeah, and players who were out because of injury (Anthony Morrow and Ronnie Turiaf?) had to play too… It was rough. But hilarious.

  • Ken Posted: Jul.22 at 7:09 am
I never thought I’d root for a Harvard kid…but here I am. Props to Jeremy for making it.

  • twahc Posted: Jul.22 at 12:44 pm
    Taiwan Pride.

  • Nashty Posted: Jul.22 at 12:56 pm
Jeremy Lin will make Yao and Yi look like pu**sies!!

  • horsey Posted: Jul.22 at 2:51 pm
i don’t even know what that word could be…

  • W deals Posted: Jul.23 at 4:58 pm
Go Warriors!!! I am sure this will help their tickets sells but no one can think that they will be any good, right?
