Warriors Trade C.J. Watson to Chicago

The Bulls will receive Watson in exchange for a second-round draft pick. From the Contra Costa Times: “The Warriors reached an agreement to send restricted free-agent point guard C.J. Watson to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for a 2011 second-round draft pick, multiple team sources told Bay Area News Group on Monday. The deal was not complete as of press time but imminent. Watson signed a three-year, $10.2 million deal with the Warriors, one source said, who then traded him to the Bulls. Watson is expected to back up Chicago All-Star point guard Derrick Rose and shore up the Bulls bench. Watson is the sixth player from last year’s Warriors roster to be traded away this offseason. The Warriors are also likely to get a trade exception in the deal. It would be worth half of whatever amount Watson gets in his first season. Based on Watson’s expected salary, it figures to be in the neighborhood of $2 million. Either way it is one more chip the Warriors have stored for later use. Golden State now has a trade exception each for Watson and guard Anthony Morrow (who was traded to New Jersey), and the expiring contracts of forward Vladimir Radmanovic ($6.9 million), center Dan Gadzuric ($7.2 million) and forward Brandan Wright ($3.4 million).”

Bulls keep finding nice additions this summer. They are looking really good…on paper. Hopefully, they play well this coming year. As for the Warriors, what does their roster look like now? Ellis, Curry, Lee, Biedrins…who else? They have completely changed their roster.

….the Warriors don’t care anymore do they?…..or maybe they are just trying to completely overhaul there style of play. The addition of David Lee means we can probably expect to see more half-court stuff from Nellie’s squad. Good pick up for Chicago who are quickly becoming the new kings of their division

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

    Radman, Gadzuric, and Wright obviously.

@LDR4…I’m guessing the front office in GSW has come to the conclusion their up and down style of play score points but not W’s. Just watching their Summer League squad you could tell there has been a shift in philosophy…if this year turns out as bad for them as I think it will I don’t know if Nellie stays around

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Prediction: by trade deadline GSW gets rid of Monta Ellis, which is what they’ve secretly wanted to do for the last 2 years now.

Gunning for that number one pick VERY early on.

  • Groves

trying to rebuild around ellis and lee?

  • Groves

*curry and lee… ellis gone in next three seasons

  • Groves

    *curry and lee

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

I agree with Dacre..they tryin to rebuild a la Portland or OKC with expiring contracts, high picks and trade exceptions..i think they move ellis for the right price…the Bulls are looking nice BUT THIS CLOWNS WHO COME HERE AFTER CJWATSON AND RONNIE BREWER AND SAY THEY NOW A POWERHOUSE ARE JUST DUMB..its not those guys who will put you in the top 3 of the east

  • http://www.nba.com L

Wow it’s gonna be a complete free for all now in the East. Why cant the season start already?!?!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

CJ Watson was pretty good last season. He should get some good looks in Chicago.

Even though Miami got the three superstars, the old bench guys, and a new roster…I think that the Bulls are doing a better job getting guys on the bench. The Bulls will now have Rose, Watson, and then resign Pargo. Their Turkey guy won’t work, so get (this is the only “good” guys on the market) Przbilla off the Blazers, or even just get rid of Kwame Brown off Detroit. One bad Kwame is enough.

  • riggs

warriors are gonna overhaul their whole team.

  • Diesel

@Trailblazer – I don’t think the Bulls are a powerhouse, but they’re much improved over last year. And its exactly these type of hustle players that put teams over the top. Bulls did they’re work with Rose, Boozer, and to a lesser extent Noah and Deng. Now you go out and do exactly what they’re doing and that’s fill in hard working role players.

  • Coffeebean

I’d rather the Bulls traded for Randy Watson. Sexual Chocolate!!

  • rich

beidrens and lee are pretty quick guys, i mean u can argue they will run more since they now have the ability to get a defensive rebound and stop ppl a lil more. the league is gonna look really good next year cant wait for season to start

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

@Diesel: they prolly better than the Hawks and can fight with the top 3, so they improved a lot but i just think its stupid things like: SLAM “Ronnie Brewer sigs with Chicago”- a bunch of guys here: wow da Bulls are a powerhouse; get ready Miami; we passed Boston, etc…they good rotation players but not what puts them over the top.

The Bulls are stocking up and doing a great job of building a TEAM with all the right pieces. We went out and picked up a shooter (korver), an inside scoring and rebounding threat (boozer), an athletic defender and slasher (brewer), and now a steady, veteran point guard to back up Rose. This team can be as good as they want to be there are no egos on this team, and with Noah and Boozer leading the team with their passion for the game and desire to win, there’s nothing stopping these guys. The front office, dare I say, is on it’s way to FINALLY figuring it out..

  • ConeyIslander

The Bulls are becoming a big big problem!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why are they gutting their team?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

C.J. Watson is not a steady veteran back up point. He’s a gunning combo guard. He’s a more consistent Flip Murray, that’s it.

Last summer they were offered a 2nd round pick, JJ Reddick, and the expiring contract of Anthony Johnson and said no. This summmer it only took 1 2nd round pick. LOL

“Contra Costa Times” sounds like some mafioso publication, lol. I continue to be impressed with the moves the Bulls are making this offseason.

    Great pick-up.. Again.

Any other East teams want some solid players for cheap? Christ, we’re definitely tanking the season for the post-Nellie error…

  • Str8in It Out

CJ Watson is a beast at backup. He had some good games last season, especially defensively (a magnet for steals), all while playing BEHIND Monta and Curry. He closed out a lot of games too for Nelly and we should all know how tight Nelly is with his rotation. Don’t sleep on the kid. Its a good pickup for the Bulls. They hijacked the Jazz for some of their better assets not named Deron and a sleeper in CJ who can give the second unit a completely different look without losing much in explosiveness and speed. Shoot. I think they’re having one of the better offseasons…right there with the Bucks.

Chi are looking to be a contender this season. Sure, they lost in the LBJ sweepstakes, but they’re offseason has been far from a failure!
