Anthony Randolph Could Start for Knicks

Regardless of his position, Randolph should get solid minutes for NY. From the NY Post: “The 6-foot-10 Randolph could play small forward, the 6-foot-10 Gallinari at shooting guard and Amar’e Stoudemire at power forward. If Randolph is as good as the Knicks think, Gallinari will have to play shooting guard to keep the ex-Warrior as a starter. The Knicks do not have a legit starting shooting guard, especially with Kelenna Azubuike unlikely to be 100 percent when training camp begins Sept. 25 as he recovers from knee patella surgery. Randolph’s addition in the David Lee sign-and-trade could turn into the summer’s real steal. His progress was stunted by multiple ankle injuries (torn ligament, fracture) last season and coach Don Nelson’s erratic use of him. ‘I think the fans don’t know [how good I could be],’ Randolph said. ‘It works to my advantage. When they see me play, it will be, ‘Wow.’ Expectations are low. It works in my favor. I’ve improved every year and was having a good season before I got hurt.’”

YESSSSS! Seems like D’Antoni is the anti-Don Nelson when it comes to letting guys play but is also his twin in NOT letting guys play D.

  • Gavin

Gal is far too slow to play any type of 2. He even has trouble defending 3′s and 4′s. Randolph is nice though, but a bit raw. Seems like wilson Chandler isn’t even in the plans. Maybe knicks can make a push for Fernandez or better yet Jamal Crawford again.

  • jammal o

gallo can not play the two. and randolph will be an all star, not this year tho.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

    best shooter in the league….period

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

excuse me, thought the title said Anthony Morrow could start for the Nets…lol

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Anthony Randolph is solid too, he hasn’t quite lived up to the bill yet, but in a good system he could. D’Antoni likes versatile bigs so he’ll do well in New York

aren’t PFs and Cs pretty much the same these days and SFs and SGs the same?

  • Jose

Doesn’t Wilson Chandler Play start at the 2 and/or 3 spot? what happens then, that dude can ball

  • a_whiteman

I can’t see how they DON’T start randolph. If I’m Antoni I go with a 5 of felton, chandler, gallo, Randolph and amare. Let turiaf come in and play 5 to give them rest. Amare has already proved hecan compete at the 5 despite being slightly undersized but that doesn’t really hurt him in the EC.

  • goattree

I agree, that’s the best starting lineup they could put out there, but Amare doesn’t want to have to guard other 5′s.

Bill Walker will earn some of those minutes at the 2guard

  • JTaylor21

a_whiteman what do you mean by that doesn’t really hurt him in the EC? You act like the west is overflowing with great centers, I’m tired of people acting like the west is the toughest conference. Don’t let all the 50 win teams fool ya, none of the them have a chance of challenging the lakers when it comes to the playoffs. The west conference and the west coast SUCK.

  • rainman10

Amare undersized doesn’t hurt him in the East? Shaq, Perkins, Howard, Lopez, Bosh, Bogut, Noah, and then Boozer and Horford…Size does matter. Amare should be fine, but lets not act like the East is weak at the bigs.

  • rich

bu size he meant height.. guys like chris kaman and mark gasol bother him more than perkins bosh noah boozer and hortford ya there are seven footers in the east but they are VERY slow

  • http://google J-Ro

    PG- Felton
    SG- Chandler
    SF- Gallinari
    PF- Randolph
    C- Stoudamire

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    SG- Chandler
    SF- Randolph
    PF- Stoudemire
    C- Barron
    6th man- Gallinari

JTaylor: Ummm nope, D’Antoni is definitely not the anti-Don Nelson. He shafted Toney Douglas pretty much 3/4 of last season, electing to go with Chris Duhon, and likely still won’t give Douglas the amount of playing time he deserves. Douglas > Felton, just trust me on this one.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If D’Antoni doesn’t start Wilson Chandler something is wrong.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave.

Of course something is wrong. It’s the Knicks.
I do look forward to seeing Gallinari as the starting two guard – even if the Atlantic Division is thin on two guards, it should be amazing seeing him stand there like a telegraph pole while Wade, Kobe, etc etc abuse him to death.

  • JTaylor21

Come on Teddy, I know that Felton hasn’t lived up to the hype but don’t act like he sucks or something. Felton will put up very good numbers and run the pick/roll with Amare nicely. Felton over Douglas any day.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

JTaylor I’m not even gonna argue this. Just trust me. Douglas > Felton. Douglas’ ceiling is very high right now and he has the potential to do some great things for this Knicks squad. The Knicks don’t need vets–what the Knicks SHOULD be doing is building and developing their younger talent. Dayum, I just argued it. No more.

  • kousinkar

I’m a big Wilson Chandler fan, but I think his handle’s too shaky to play the two (unless he’s improved on that considerably this summer). He seems like a prototypical 3. And there is no way Gallinari can guard 2′s. I feel like Roger Mason’s going to start at the 2, with Wilson playing the 3 off the bench. But honestly, as long as Randolph gets big minutes this year, I think I’ll be good with whatever line-up gets thrown out there.

  • Jb

As a Warrior fan I’m going to miss AR, potential is sky high. I can only imagine with D’antoni what he’ll do. Good luck to him and the Knicks.

  • cb4

    I agree with J-Ro’s lineup,

    felton whos 6’0, then chandler 6’8, gallo 6 10, randolph 6 10 and Amare 6 10.

That’s a big and athletic lineup. In Dantoni’s system (run and gun) as long as felton makes good decisions, this team should be a highlight machine. Granted, they only have one solid(amazing) shooter in Gallo, but chandler randolph and especially Amare should be dunking all over other teams.

  • cb4

In addition to my previous post. I don’t even think traditional positions really make a difference with that lineup. Amare is the strongest so he would be on centers, but they could basically play positions 2 through 4 interchangeably, they all have the requisite skills.

  • MikeC.

At this point in my Knick fan-life, I’m not married to anybody on the roster. I don’t care who starts, I don’t care who plays. I don’t even care who stays. Until the Knicks field a team that hustles, scraps and cares about winning, I don’t give an ish about who’s on the roster. I’m numb nowadays. Put a team of hustlers and scrappers on the court and I’ll cheer until I’m hoarse. I’m sick of the bums coming through just to cash in. Time to roll thick.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Raymond Felton is NOT a run-n-gun point guard. Toney Douglas can be. He’s way more athletic, has great court vision, and can shoot the lights out from deep–and, this is very important: he can DEFEND. I don’t know what else the Knicks are looking for in a guard. I just hope they didn’t sign Raymond Felton to make Douglas a back-up.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Douglas might be too small to play the 2 guard in the NBA, but he can defend both positions pretty damn well so perhaps the Knicks are thinking of a Felton/Douglas backcourt? That’d be alright too, at least until Buike comes back.

  • http://hoopistani.blogspot.com hoopistani

what? so does wilson chandler not exist anymore?

  • tavoris

I thought Raymond Felton pushed the ball incessantly at UNC. And it led to a national title.

  • Rikson

C=sh… And the headline is right!

  • ConeyIslander

Gallo at the 2 would be awesome of offense, but on D they would work him out! I’d do it anyway!

  • The Philosopher

    Co-sign ConeyIslander @10:05 a.m.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

The Knicks still have no idea how basketball is played. They signed players (some of which do not fit the style their team plays) and do not know how to use them. This is just amazing.

  • a_whiteman

Jtaylor my point is he’s been running at the 5 off and on since nash came to phx with him and the lack of a better option leaves him to start at the 5. I’m not saying the east is weak with bigs but there are a lot of undersized 5s outside of Lopez shaq and bogut and few that are able to run with him.

  • a_whiteman

And CO-SIGN tavoris I guess we are the only 2 who remember that lol

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

    He’s Rashard’s successor

  • Mack

    PG – Felton
    SG – Azubuike
    SF – Gallinari
    PF – Randolph
    CE – Stoudemire

bench- Chandler, Turiaf, Douglas, and the newly acquire Patrick Ewing JR!

    knicks lookin goood

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Why do people think Gallinari should start ahead of Chandler?

  • http://Google J-Ro

@Teddy….it might have something to do with him being a shooter. They need that with this kinda offense.

  • mike

havent they signed some russian center 3 yr 10mill? i think thats who is going to be getting majority c minutes.

  • http://jimmymauvais@yahoo.com imarealistdonth8te

i think gallo should try at the two even tho he might get worked by the likes of kobe and dwayne wade because if they get pass him you got the likes of randolph and amareto swat the hell out of them beyond the mexican border

  • imarealistdonth8te

i think gallo will be fine at the 2 even if he might get worked his height will force the natural 2s to go inside where they will meant the likes of randolph and amare who will swat thir shot beyond the mexican border
