Bulls to Honor Scottie Pippen with Statue

It’s gotta be a defensive stance. From Bulls.com: “The Chicago Bulls have plans to unveil a bronze statue of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen that will be displayed permanently in the United Center at some point towards the end of the 2010-11 season. ‘Not only is Scottie Pippen one of the greatest players to ever wear a Bulls uniform, but he’s among the best players in history of the league to play the game,’ said Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. ‘He had a tremendous impact in bringing six world championships to Chicago and there is no better way to pay tribute to him than with a permanent statue that honors his inspirational career.’ The statue will be crafted by Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany of Highland Park, Ill., who also sculpted the famous Michael Jordan statue which was unveiled in January 1994 in conjunction with Jordan’s No. 23 jersey retirement.”

If its not a defensive stance, maybe they could make it his dunk on Ewing. Like, have the base be ewing, and then Pip parking his nuts in his mouth. Regardless, stoked he’s getting honored like this.

  • Karron

That is a good look in the go

Oh and Respect and admiration to Mr Scottie Pippen. I hated him as a kid/teen growing up a Knick fan and the Bulls always destroying OUR dreams/goals. That being said Pippen might not be top 50 (in my eyes) but he surely is one of the best to ever suit up (in all facets of the game)
And reading comment above though painful to invision I do think that would be a ILLMATIC statue of Pippen (on Ewing) smh
(will we ever see such basketball again?)
    I REALLY HOPE SO!!!! >crosses fingers<

  • Bassbesteck

yeah rodman needs one too… I’m thinking of some cover art from his book^^

  • BK Chris

    Long overdue!

cosign ken the image of Pippen standing right over ewing is an image i never got to see live (wasnt born) but ive seen the video and it will forever be engraved in my mind.

  • Coney Islander

The statue could be of Pippen with his hands ready wide open 23 ft away waiting for MJ to finally pass the ball!

  • http://www.slamonline.com peter

they should build a small pippen statue right next to the Jordan one that moves with the sun so it’s always in MJ’s shadow…

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^peter..
wow thats actually kinda deep man

  • hoodsnake

Or they could make one of his facial expression when Jax called that last shot for Kukoc

  • Ngoie

    … and harsh

    You guys are funny.

  • MikeC.

There’s an even better way to honor Pip. A statue is nice, but how about The Bulls cut him a retroactive cheque for all those years they underpaid him?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

I am glad the Bulls are giving him his due, MJ was the best player on the team, but Pippen was the most important player on the team with his overall skills to guard multiple postions, get assits, rebound, block shots and play point forward. BOOK IT!!

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^the seed..
are u seriously trying to say that pippen was more important to the bulls than mj himself was? wow u are a moran.. go sit in a the corner and dont ever come back to discuss basketball on this site again

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

A statue is nice and all but I kinda agree with MikeC. Pippen’s most lucartive contract with the Bulls was for $5 million, and that was in ’04-’05, his final year in the NBA. During his first go-round with the Bulls the MOST he made in a year was $3.4 mil in ’92-93. In ’93-94 when Pip averaged 21.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 5.2 apg, 2.9 spg 1.1 bpg and made the All-NBA First Team, he made a paltry $2.2 Mil. No wonder did never wanted to tip anyone.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

^ sorry, that contract and those stats were from ’94-95, not ’93-94. My bust. Still, good to see the Bulls doing this, I’m sure Reisndorf regrets not paying him better…maybe…

  • hammer

Hell yeah! Xcited bout this! Bout time reinsdorf did something 4 pip. And I agree:reinsdorf should pay pip 4 past years service. Also agree that it should b a defense stance. What better perimeter defensive player has the league ever seen than pip? And the shoes 4 this statue should mos def b the air max uptempo! Right? Mj’s got his jordans on his sstatue, same 4 pip. Sick shoes! 1st HOF. Now this. Congrats again 2 my fav player of all time!

  • Royal

“My Bust”…. I’m sorry the kid in me had to chuckle at that one.

  • http://youtube.com/Scottie33Pippen AJ Johnson

They better mold that statue into a wicked defensive stance showing Pip’s long ass wingspan lol.

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

    About damn time.

  • Scottie Pimpin

defense wins trophies baby, it should be one of those pretty little full arm extended air floating layups man, people may have come for jordan, but stayed for pippen. go bulls !

    Congratulations and well deserved

Dude you are in the MJ Greatest ever mindset. MJ is the greatest player ever, but wouldn’t he be tired if he had to guard the best player, faciliate the offense and play a more all around game. Without Pippen MJ does not get six rings. See MJ was the best player, but Pippen overall skill to impact every facuet of the game was the key to all of the Bulls title runs. If you think MJ did everything on his own your buying into the concept of the GREATEST concept. Pippen was the key because he had an impact on every part of the game. MJ scored alot, rebounded about 6 and some assist. But Pippen statline would have everything. Pippen was the most important player on the Bulls teams, MJ was the Best player, don’t get it confused CAT.

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com Clutch Performer

@ The Seed you make a good point
I see MJ as the Muscle and Scottie as the Backbone
but yeah MJ wouldnt have won without Scottie, but Scottie wouldnt have gotten past the ECF without MJ, he coulda been the Tmac of his Era or the Lebron. dont kill me , I mean in terms of success, not skill, cuz Pip is leaps and bounds ahead of both and way classier

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHICAGO SAID IT YUP

ppl understand 1 thing. scottie pippen wouldve been just a regular player if michael jordan didnt kick his ass everyday and damn near single handedly turn him into a great player. scottie was vital he was versatile and he was the 2nd guy to war. but dont get it twisted he wasnt on the same level of michael he was just the little brother. trust me i watched deamn near every game during that 90s run

  • http://Slamonline.com Negativekreep

It’s about time man, this guy was a true professional. It says alot about you as a player when you get a statue next Michael Jordan. Well deserved.

  • hammer

@ the seed. What u just said I have been sayin for yrs since pip was still n the L runnin w/the bulls. Good 2 c som1 else shares my pov. Pip filled that stat sheet like water. Constant trip-dub threat along w/g-hill and kidd

  • ab_40

pip was my favorite player growing up and to see him get his due like this is great to see. It’s a shame he’s almost out of money since he signed a terrible contract in the early 90s which didn’t pay him jcka isth

  • JD

Now I can Imagine Miami sculpting the statue of the Wade,Bron & Bosh outside of their arena as soon (or when) they win a championship together…

  • Ronald

I’m surprised no has mentioned how funny it would be that during the unveiling of the statue they surprise Pippen by making a last minute change from Pippen to Kukoc as the statue.

  • Yesse

    About damn time.

  • jcoo

    @Ronald

wtf.. get outta here with that. Pip all the WAY!

  • dsleepy21

@Seed: your comment makes no sense. how can mj be the “best player” and pip be the “most important player?” pip did a lot of things well and he was ESSENTIAL for the bulls to get those rings. but without mj, a championship is not even in the discussion. you’re taking for granted that mj would be there on the team.

  • hammer

What a lot of people tend 2 4get was that pip was the orchestrator of the triangle offense. Pip was the 1 setting teammates up 4 wide open 3′s and easy shots. Pippen was the 1 who had 2 guard the opposing teams best perimeter player, not mj. And helping out his teammates w/their defensive assignments. Pip could control a game w/out scoring a single point. And those who did see pip play would agree. Jordan had the heroics. But pip would keep the bulls n the game 2 set up jordan 4 those heroics. Mj was the best. No doubt. But pip was the most important. And also people 4get that pip was the key 2 keep that bulls dynasty 2gether. Jordan would only return if pip did. Pip didn’t so the dynasty was over. Even in jordans 1st retirement pip almost got traded 4 kemp. Had that deal gone down jordan, and he has said this, woudnt have comeback. That’s how important scottie was and I don’t even have 2 mention the countless times pip came up big on his devensive assignments n the playoffs

Seed’s such a fu*king idiot, it almost hurts to read his posts.

If Pippen was the key to the Bulls success. How is putting Michael in front of him make sense? MJ is the greatest offensive threat ever known as well as a great defender at his position. But Scottie only did what the team needed of him, he didn’t pad his stats. Think of it, if he wanted to in the 1990′s he could have easily averaged 25ppg;9rpg;8apg;3spg;3bpg during those championship runs. Would that equal more winning? Probably not. Some of Pippen’s most impressive games are the one’s when he got less than 10 pts. You get to see what Pippen needed to do to get the victory. With Jordan it was only by scoring and stealing. Pip gets a statue, good. But he deserves so much more.
