Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul Plan to Play for U.S. in 2012

CP3 and Melo are both excited about trying to get a second gold medal. The AP reports: “Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul want to defend their Olympic gold medals. On Thursday night, they dropped by to see the players who can earn them the chance. The U.S. national team scrimmaged at Radio City Music Hall, where they were followed by a Jay-Z performance. The Blue team won 49-47 in overtime – it was sudden death to prepare the venue for the concert – on Tyson Chandler’s dunk on a lob pass from Rajon Rondo. Also watching from the sideline were LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Amare Stoudemire. James was the only one who didn’t speak, and he was booed when shown on a large video screen late in the game. Anthony and Paul both said they plan to play in 2012 in London. The Americans would qualify by winning the world championships in Turkey that start Aug. 28. ‘I can’t wait, I definitely want to be a part of that team,’ said Paul, sidelined this summer as he recovers from knee surgery … Anthony, who also played in the 2004 Olympics but is sitting out this summer after getting married, was asked if he wants to return in 2012. ‘Of course,’ he said. ‘I’m locked in. I’m committed.’”

they will get another gold.. has anyone noticed melo is at his best when playing in the olympics?

  • lexluther703

What I wouldn’t do to have that same ’08 team plus Durant and Rose.. I still can’t stop watching the highlights, there’s nothing more beautiful than the best players in the world uniting for one common goal: teaching the rest of the world not to f**k with USA hoops. Please come back, fellas

@c_cantrell: Give Melo a big who can spread the floor, and it’s on. Let’s be real, K-Mart and Nene don’t really have a consistent midrange game in Denver, which is why you don’t see all Melo can be. Look at Kobe, he gets Gasol, and it’s 3 straight trips to the Finals son. IF, big IF, Melo joins Amar’e in New York, then Miami better start sweatin’, because Felton is gonna tear it up at point on a way to a CHIP. I see Ronny Turiaf gettin’ in Bosh’s lil’ grill like Predator does a skull. lol

Someone help me out here, wasnt there big thing about how all these guys had three year commitments when talking about the 08 Olympics?
So, do they not have to give that commitment this time or are all the big names just shirking it?

  • WangChung

@Overtime: a bunch of these guys had “extenuating circumstances”. Free agency for a lot of the guys, and misc. other injuries/personal issues.

  • Overtime

Thanks WangChung. I can understand injuries, dunno if free agency is a decent excuse though

i just found it interesting that these two players who are rumored to become Knickerbockers say this in New York.

  • Jose

Don’t tell me they’re going to make a plan to get to NY by going back w/ Team USA ala what everyone said wade/lbj/bosh did

  • MusketeerX

Melo is Batman, and New York is Gotham. The two were made for each other. Get LaLa on The View as soon as Melo’s a Knick. BOOK IT!

Have D-Wade or LBJ committed too? I get that CP3 is still in recovery and Melo just got married, but not playing because of FA is pretty weak. If these ‘kids’ win they should be able to secure a spot on the Olympic team. Clearly a team w/o LBJ, Wade, Kobe (who can claim recovery as well), isn’t as good, they shouldn’t be allowed just to waltz on in the Olympic team and take spots from guys who actually secured it for us. I get superstars have privledge, but use FA as a reason not to play – just doesn’t feel right.

@the Seed you’re probably right lol these guys are unbelievable! A league full of SUPER FRIENDS I can see it now lol

When did LeBron kill a white woman and flee in a white bronco? He became one of the most hated athletes over night, for signing with a team in south beach!? SMH

Melo and Durant quite possibly could be the two best international players in the game. Their game translates to wins more than any other players. No offense to Bron, Kobe, Wade I enjoy watching these guys in the USA jersey.

I mean international wins. Not nba ones.

Then why arent u playing in the World Championships? U never get this in other countries and not in other sports either u cant call it the best players in the world uniting unless it actually is and it isnt USA arent gonna win this year players should want to represent their country their were 12 players who played for Team USA in 2008 take away the 2 who probly wouldnt have been selected this year and your telling me all 10 payers were busy? They just can’t be bothered.

Stop crying if the US fielded a amateur team in the olympics they would still destroy any MonStars. It would be like if Canada sent their junior team to the olympics.
