Celtics, Bobcats Interested in Larry Hughes?

The market for the free agent vet includes two squads, sayeth Yahoo!: “Celtics still need swingman behind Pierce and Allen. Could it be Larry Hughes? Word is Cs and CHA interested. Hughes looking good in workouts.”

Have either team ever seen Larry Hughes play?

“still need swingmen behind Pierce and Allen” Wafer, Daniels, Avery Bradley not enough?

  • dsleepy

larry is a good scorer. off the bench, any team would be lucky to have him. i see him going to CHA since they prob pay more than BOS. (i think BOS can only offer him vet min, but if they somehow get him anyway, the celtics will look pretty good)

  • WangChung

How do the C’s still have any money leftover? Don’t think they need another chucker.

Like someone said, Boston’s already got Wafer, Daniels, and likely Bradley to come off the bench for Ray Ray and Pierce. I don’t really see Hughes fitting in. A backup point guard (other than Nate Robinson) would be a better idea…

Larry Hughes was a good defender. He almost led the league in steals 1 year didn’t he? So I can see why he C’s would want him. Would be an alright fit in the Bobcats to as he could grow under Larry Brown’s style of play. He should get more minutes with the Cats.

I forgot Larry Hughes was in the league.

  • T-Money

i’ve never seen a bad shooter as enamored with his mid-range game as larry hughes.

  • downtown brown clown

@Eduardo – larry hughes grow? did he just start in the league last year? mayne, he ain’t learning jackS#!t!!!!

  • BobbyD

Hold on, Larry Hugher? How is he getting a look in over T-Mac or AI? I know the latter have had rough times lately, but I would take T-Mac over Hughes if I was either team. Never liked Hughes either, will always remember the 2000 Dunk Contest where he said he jumped too high after missing a dunk. What a guy!

Good fit. But they have enough player. I mean, Daniels never even got a chance to play last year, and if he would’ve, he would contribute as hell. Remember how he averaged 15 ppg for Indiana? Okay, that’s Indy, but still… A lot of these guys they have now will do just fine. So why sign Hughes if you’re only gonna sit him? I mean, Daniels will get his minutes NOW, right? I don’t expect Hughes to get the advantage over Daniels.

That being said, I’ve never really disliked Hughes. He’s way overrated, because he had some succes with the Cavs and the Warriors (he averaged like 20 ppg). But I do like him as a role player. Just to play defense, and occassionally hit the open jumper.

His game fell off after he stared in that Nelly “Dilema” video….

Why am I the only one that thinks this can be a good move for the Celtics? Dude was injured some last year but averaged about 10, 4 and 4 in 16 starts. And a bunch more games off the bench averaged just under that. Still a capable defender on the wing. Good on the run which is what the Celtics 2nd unit likes to do with Rondo still in. Avery Bradley is a point guard. This could end up being a good guard rotation for Boston.

  • total scrotal implosion

What team did he play on last season? Hahaha

  • dsleepy

he played for ny i think

@T-money: Antoine Walker’s name clearly slipped your mind.
And don’t y’all be sleeping on Avery Bradley. Dude locked down many premier guards at UT. While he doesn’t have Rondo’s freakishly long arms and huge hands, defensively, you’re not getting much of a dropoff in play when he comes off the bench.

  • T-Money

rainman10: Larry shot 35% from the field last year. 35!!! He’s a 40% career shooter from the field. That’s beyond disgusting.

  • mennotu

Nah, dude is “too young” for the C’s

  • http://chugachugachugachuchu.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

He was good for us last year. Not sure where the minutes are, with Jackson, Carrol, Henderson, Livingston, DJ, and Sheron Collins already on the roster.

  • http://google c_cantrell

never compare avery bradley to rajon rondo as an equal on defense.. foolish foolish statement

  • MikeC.

    Stay out of NY.

  • james moore

    Whatever happen to Tim Thomas?

  • JTaylor21

Larry “disappearing act” hughes never avg. 20 points with the cavs. Dude tricked everyone with one very good season the year before and the cavs feel for the illusion. He was supposed to be the second option the cavs never had but where they do that at?

  • Anthony

the only time Lebron went to the Finals was with Larry Hughes, go sign him. *sarcasm off*

  • ClydeSays

No thanks. The C’s have enough vets. Sign Fernandez or another player under 30 and relatively healthy. Hughes could have a bright future…on NBA TV…

  • Rikson

    Hughes is the “small AI”

  • tavoris

the Celts need to get a SMALL FORWARD with size and a J. It doesn’t work to sign shooting guards, expecting them to slide over to the 3 on demand.

  • WangChung

@C_Cantrell: So who is comparable to Rondo on defense? the Glove? God? Bradley’s the best defender in his class at his position, so let’s give him some credit. He’s got wing span and all the athleticism you could want.

  • tavoris

@WangChung-the only player who covered ground like Rondo does defensively was Shawn Marion. Payton was a lockdown 1-on-1 defender-which Rondo is not.

  • WangChung

    ^^Good point sir.
