Chauncey Billups Chats About Marbury
by Jeremy Bauman / JBauman13
After the Team USA Basketball practice on Friday afternoon Chauncey Billups offered his two cents on his good friend Stephon Marbury’s basketball and business ventures. “Steph is Steph, man. Yall know Steph, he kinda tweets to his own tune, man. That’s just kinda him being him, really. Since I’ve known him, since [he was in] high school. Really I’m just happy he’s playing basketball again because I know he still loves the game and he still has a lot to give the game of basketball. I wish he was playing in the NBA—I feel like he’s still an NBA player, unfortunately. Steph has always been kinda ahead of the curve in that aspect [about playing in China] as far as business and being innovative with some of the things that he tries to do. I’m sure whatever he’s doing in China is gonna work out big for him.”

You just lost all credibility with that comment
The Nuggets, without a healthy Nene, and with JR Smiith and Kenyon Martin with nagging injuries were supposed to lose to the Lakers and Spurs in the first round.
Chauncey got them to the WCF a couple years ago, but they didn’t have the toughest road to get there.
Last year, despite having great talent, they lost in the first round.
Chauncey is good point guard. He used to be great. But, he problem with the Nuggets was having no true point, not that Chauncey was a real “leader” or a better player than Iverson.
Although, CB wasn’t great in that WCF series with LAL, no one really was. And the Nugs had no answer for the size of the Lakers. Ty Lawson is getting groomed by one of the league’s best.
Chauncey is a good, former great point. He’s not great anymore, in my opinion.
He runs the team, understands tempo and is fairly vocal.
But, he’s too emotional and he has not shown the ability to force his teammates to stay in line through strength of will. He didn’t do it in Detroit and he didn’t do it in Denver against the Lakers or against the Jazz. That team lacks mental toughness and poise and those are supposed to be Chauncey’s biggest assets.
Skillwise, he’s exceptional as a free throw shooter, and he’s pretty good at drawing fouls despite how infrequently he drives to the rim, and his problems finishing over taller players. He is not great at passing to big men off the drive, although he’s not bad either. He has a horrible tendency to jack contested three pointers. In fact, his shooting percentage last year was about 41 or 42 percent, which is horrible considering his free throw percentage and three point percentage. His low field goal percentage is a direct result of ridiculous contested jumpers and his reliance on that jumper.
Am I the only one who has noticed this?
