Darren Collison Excited to Join the Pacers

Collison tells the Indy Star that fans in Hoosier country will love what he brings to the table: “Darren Collison grew up in Southern California watching fellow UCLA alum Reggie Miller lead the Indiana Pacers to the playoffs on a regular basis. Collison wants to pick up where Miller left off. ‘People can look forward to a player that loves to win,’ Collison said. ‘I just want to bring that excitement back to the city.’ Collison will be given the opportunity to lead the Pacers back to the postseason for the first time since 2006. He’s expected to be the starting point guard when the Pacers open the season Oct. 27 at San Antonio. ‘I talked to Darren and he’s excited about the opportunity to run the team,’ Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said. ‘He knows the tempo we play at, and he’s excited to be part of this growth process.’ The Pacers are confident they solved their lingering point guard issues by acquiring Collison and veteran swingman James Posey from New Orleans in a four-team deal that sent Troy Murphy to New Jersey on Wednesday. The Pacers have ended each of the past five seasons with a different starting point guard. ‘As much as I liked having Troy on the team, he certainly gave us a double-double every time out, but by getting Collison and Posey, we really made ourselves more athletic and quicker,’ O’Brien said.”

collison can really flourish in indy.. he has already proved himself tremendously so that he can be a very good point guard.. i can see him averaging bout 16 points and 8 or 9 assists

Correct me if I’m wrong but, although they filled their need at PG, don’t they now have a hole for PF? Don’t tell me you’re going to start Tyler…

if the start him then jim obrien is Psycho J

I think they are thinking long-term here. A hole at PF left by an aging injury prone vet for a point guard for the next 5-10 years is a good trade. They probably should have drafted Ed Davis or someone like that.

Cosign niQ. I love Collison, but I always felt Murphy was a bit underrated. I think they’ll miss him.

Co-sign omphalos… or i mean they look for a PF in free agency. I mean wasn’t Murphy also in a contract season? if for sum reason the Nets don’t keep him afterwards,Indy can get him back

Collision will get the same numbers he got, when Chris Paul was out injured. You would think Chris would want a quality back up for him, when he is tired and have to come out of the game.

cp3 didnt want anyone to seriously challenge takin any of his playing time and he certainly didnt want a first or second year player being the one doin it.. but hey its a business..

if this team stays healthy watch out!! they have had alot of injuries the last few years and just missed the 8th seed. They do need a pf. I would love to see a trade with Utah for Kirelenko. PACERS are back baby!!!!
