DeJuan Blair Feeling Healthy

Good news for Spurs fans, as Blair is able to play the game without feeling any pain. From the Express-News: “DeJuan Blair grabbed the ball, gathered himself, then rose up for a dunk. Then he did it again and again. For the bedazzled grade-schoolers who had gathered for Spurs youth camp at the University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday, the display was well worth the price of admission. For skittish Spurs fans everywhere, concerned about Blair’s health after lower leg soreness kept the All-Rookie big man off the floor at last month’s Las Vegas Summer League, it was cause for hallelujah. ‘I said I wasn’t going to do it (dunk), but they got me,’ Blair said after succumbing to the campers’ peer pressure. ‘I’m glad they saw a couple. I didn’t think I could do it.’ In truth, Blair’s July ‘injury’ was hardly an injury at all. He had bruised his right calf in a workout prior to summer league, and the Spurs coaching staff in Vegas felt it best to hold him out as a precautionary measure. By the end of the Spurs’ week in the desert, Blair said, he felt spry enough to play.”

Nice. I remember watching the rookie/sophomore game in February, where he threw that sick alley-oop to himself… damn, that was nasty. I didn’t even know he could still dunk like that. I love Blair, he reminds me of those 90′s power forward that I really like, so all the best to him.

Yeah he is definitely a throwback player. Out there out working everyone else on the floor. And they say he has no ACLs. How is that even possible??

He must be a mutant! I tore a meniscus and haven’t really been able to dunk off the vert since. The soreness never really goes away, just gets worse. :(

@tgm: People have been making that comparison since his Pitt days. Probably cause they’re both shortish, roundish, and clean glass like windex.

@dfrance, he’s torn both ACLs, but he got the surgeries on both legs where the doctors take a different muscle to replace it(dont know what it is). So technically, yes he has no ACLs.

Those stupid GMs must be moronic for passing up on a guy like these and picking Thabeet so high. Did they not watch him twist up thabeet like a pretzel going for that rebound.

Yes–its looks like there is a big upside to Blair. Improving his offensive repretoire (and not missing easy shots) and defensive assignment coverage will make him a beast in the paint–Blair’s work ethic and energy will see to that. If recent addition Tiago Splitter’s MVP play overseas converts over to the NBA, the Spurs just might get Tim Duncan a fifth championship.
