Dwight Howard: On Shaq, LeBron and Josh Smith

We turn to the AJC who spoke with Dwight Howard: “Dwight Howard was back in his hometown Friday, thrilling a group of kids from the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlanta who had no idea the Orlando Magic star and Atlanta native was coming for lunch. But before he took questions, he had one request. ‘Please, no questions about the Miami Heat,’ he said. ‘I was just over in China for two weeks and that’s all I heard: What do you think about LeBron?’”

He did answer the following questions, though:

“On LeBron James’ signing show on ESPN: ‘I was in Atlanta at the time, watching it. The Decision. The Presidential Decision, 2010. Yeah.’”

“On fans conceding the Eastern Conference to the Heat, following the free agent signings of James and Chris Bosh and the re-signing of Dwyane Wade: ‘We don’t think about it like that. They’ve still got to play games. It looks good on paper. It looks good playing a video game. But this is real life. We’re looking forward to playing them. They’re going to be a real good team but that doesn’t mean they’re going to win a championship.’”

“On whether Shaquille O’Neal can still play: ‘He’s still a big body. He’s different than he was back in the day but he’s still big. He can be a great fit for a team to help them win. I think his presence in the locker room will be needed more than anything at this point in his career. If he would embrace whatever team he’s on, he has a lot of knowledge and he could help a team grow.’”

Dwight Howard could not have said that any better. He didn’t want to get into the news saying “dwight howard thinks…” all he did was say the truth in his eyes and mind. Didn’t wanna diss Shaq, so he just 50/50 he’s good, he’s bad.

  • Rich

    You stay classy, Dwight.

  • WangChung

“He’s different than he was back in the day…” is probably the most politically correct way of saying that Shaq has lost all athleticism. Kudos to Dwight tho. I would’ve stayed classy too seeing how Shaq ethered Rupaul and The Master of Panic.

    ^thanks for stopping by

    Good move by D. Howard.

Dwight is a very humble man. He say what he wants to say. He always tell the truth. And didn’t hurt anyone when he’s talking. He’s right, Miami Heat is very tough team when it comes to a video game. But in a real. It will be not easy to win a championship. They had big three. But they’re supporting cast is not too much for the lakers, magic, celts or even chicago. They’re bench get older. They sign all veterans. (house, howard, miller, magloire) don’t have a legitimate center to defend dwight, bynum. They don’t have a bench scorer.

We’re is josh smith on that?

  • Yesse

Well, i was kinda expecting to hear dumb opinions by Dwight, but with this i agree 100%: “If he would embrace whatever team he’s on, he has a lot of knowledge and he could help a team grow.”

Want to win a ship Shaq? Come to orlando for the vet minimum, we’ll trade Gortat somewhere and you can backup Dwight. Maybe you can even teach Dwight a reliable post move (seriously, if Dwight would try and learn shaq’s drop step he would be a monster)

He is secretly thinking about how he will destroy Miami’s weak frontcourt when he faces them four times this coming year. Classy statements though.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Shaq is right about Bosh and SVG. Just sayin’.

  • byebye

He so good right how come he never ave 20 pts yeah he a good rebounder but he ain’t sh#t 4 scoring and he really ain’t playing that many good big men as yal say as long as they got carter they won’t do nuthin and howard is soft wen he plays allways cryin. Wen he get fouled

  • EJ

I thought he was gonna be pranking and immitating people.

  • Mr. Robinson

    Shaq will kick Howard’s…

  • frank

    Josh Smith?

  • Dallas Stokes

Wow… thats how its done Howard.

  • D12FSU

@byebye he has averaged 20pts, the only reason it dropped to 18 is because VC came to town and took shots away from him

  • total scrotal implosion

Dwight is right ….. the Heat are not gonna win anything….I love Kobe

  • ConeyIslander

    **Tips hat**

  • Harrell

Dwight is pathetic and obviously isn’t hungry for anything but a playoff berth, I mean who the hell goes around with a big ass smile all game long

  • rainman10

People should realize that Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol have the same highest season scoring average for their careers. Nothing against Pau Gasol, he has great offensive ability and some great post moves. But Dwight Howard gets his points too. People need to be content with all the great things Dwight does. Like best rebounder and defender in the entire league.

  • Jose

orl.Chris: You make a good point. actually. if that was the case, they get shaq to replace gortat and if they’re willing. go for CP3 if NO agrees. not likely proly but yea

  • JTaylor21

NOOOOO, EBOY has gone to the dark-side. That’s not the eboy I know.

  • http://iamBCtoday@yahoo.com iamBCtoday

I would like to see cp3 in orlando and okafor. Traded for jameer, gortat, anderson and a protected first round pick.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Don’t worry Eboy – I guess the upshot of this is that you can update your rosters on NBALive06 on PS2 and have a blast with your little custom team now.

  • RayRayJr

Rainman has great points. Dwight doesnt care about anything else than how many dunks he can get a game. Dwight Howard is a freak of nature. He knows this and that’s why he’s a mediocre center. All he can do is block shots and catch alley oops. He’s content on being a freak athlete NBA player. If he only had desire and will, like Shaq did when he was a rook with magic, he would absolutely KILL anybody anytime anyplace. At this time in the NBA, or the world, no one is even close to Dwight’s size or athleticism He just needs to grow up and learn some post moves and learn to be a leader. Watch some of Shaq’s championship games. If the magic think they have a chance to develope him they need to hire kareem or hakeem. Kareeem has done wonders for Bynum.

Dwight gave the most obvious and political ‘non-answers’ that he could. Nice job to him for that. Now I hope that he continues to develop his game and becomes more of an offensive force. I like his game but you would think that with Ewing being on the coaching staff, he would have developed further by now.

  • BostonBaller

I have no problem with what he said (politically correct) but if that were some other players they would have been picked apart for not being completely honest (whatever that means) or they would have been bashed for saying “It looks good on paper. It looks good playing a video game. But this is real life.” lol. I thought the video line was classic. lol.

  • Tyler

Man D Howard is cool cuz he tells it like it is. I hate when athletes are PC man f**k that man say what you want.

  • AG Laker

Great comments by Dwight! There is no reason to be a hater! Great comments about Dwight. I think everybody on earth agrees that Dwight needs a Yoda so he can really be the complete destroy that he’s built to be. Props to Pau Gasol for not letting him dominate the paint in that series pretty much 1-on-1 cause Bynum was down that year… Best power forward in the league… (Just cause Duncan is wearing down a bit.. No disrespect! Age gets everybody eventually… I’m looking forward to a Heat-beatin’ 3-peat! Go Lakers!!!!
