Grizzlies Get Trade Offers for Xavier Henry

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley insists he’s not looking to trade Henry, but some teams are inquiring anyway. The thought is, if Memphis isn’t going to sign its rookie, why not trade him? From the Memphis Commercial Appeal: “The Grizzlies have fielded several trade offers from teams looking to acquire the rights to unsigned rookie Xavier Henry — interest mostly derived from a contract stalemate between the team and the NBA’s 12th overall draft pick. But Griz owner Michael Heisley insisted Wednesday that the team is only interested in signing Henry to a deal that will have him play in FedExForum this season.”

Grizz look like dbags for this

  • BossTerry Posted: Aug.19 at 1:55 pm
Wonder if he’ll ever be knowen for anything other then dunking on Bron at a summer camp and thinking he’s too good for Memphis…

  • BossTerry Posted: Aug.19 at 1:56 pm
    ^ wrong guy… I got confused..

  • The Nupe Posted: Aug.19 at 2:11 pm
Although not typical, the Grizz are going the right direction here. A guranteed base with incentives for more ain’t bad, just because it hasn’t been like this in the past, isn’t a reason to turn it down. My guess is more contracts will start having some form of performance based component in them going forward. Guranteed NBA contracts put all the risk on the owners and I can see this being more of the CBA negotiations.

  • Kap Posted: Aug.19 at 2:15 pm
@Nupe…I agree with what they are doing but the contract they gave Mr. Inconsistent (Rudy Gay) contradicts their all of a sudden new philosophy.

  • The Nupe Posted: Aug.19 at 2:31 pm
@Kap: Yes it does contradict what they did with Gay, but as inconsistent as Rudy is, they still know what he brings. But I consider Rookie contracts as a entirely different process, as they haven’t done anything yet. Something else I think we’ll see more of in contracts is some form of ‘morality’ clause to incent players to stay out of trouble. Not sure how it would work, maybe another bonus paid at season end. That way before a player pushes/slaps his girlfriend etc, they’ll know they will not get that $300,000 bonus and on top of that get fined.

  • Kap Posted: Aug.19 at 2:39 pm
I think contracts should be voided or reduced when players get in trouble with the law…

Henry to the W’s. He’d fit in good.

  • The Champ Posted: Aug.19 at 3:32 pm
    I think I’m Big Meech!!!

  • Drew Posted: Aug.19 at 3:36 pm
I really don’t understand what is the Grizzlies thinking on this whole situation. It’s stupid on their part and all it does is make them look bad to future prospects. I wouldn’t be surprised if next years prospects all deny the Grizzlies a workout and blackball the team.

I say the Celtics make a push and rid themselves of couple 1st round picks + cash to lock down another soon-to-be-star-player-from-the-cradle-of-basketball-that-is-KU.

  • Michael NZ Posted: Aug.19 at 5:05 pm
No wonder Steve Francis balked at playing for the Grizzlies.

  • Migs Posted: Aug.19 at 5:07 pm
    @Michael NZ – I think that was more of a Canada-thing, no?

  • Michael NZ Posted: Aug.19 at 5:19 pm
I know, just fooling, but still.

  • Fat Lever Posted: Aug.19 at 5:23 pm
Am I missing something here? Why, if you’re another franchise, would you want to trade for this guy? It’s not like he said he doesn’t want to play for Memphis specifically. He’s getting hung up on the duckets. Who’s to say that if he gets traded to another team that he won’t do the same thing? And don’t you have to be signed to be traded?

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Aug.19 at 6:05 pm
X is the real deal. lafayette, rights to a player can be traded, as well.

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Aug.19 at 6:07 pm
BossTerry, that dude was Jordan Crawford and trust me, he won’t be known only for that dunk on lebron. He’ll put up some ridiculous scoring games this year for the ATL (seriously, could put up 40 this year in a game.)

  • The Seed Posted: Aug.19 at 6:47 pm
Who cares, the Grizzles have to many guards anyway. Trade him for a veteran, because its not like he is going to start or even crack the top 7 rotation. BOOK IT!!!

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Aug.19 at 7:53 pm
Fat, grizz are wanting him to do something that only one rookie since 94 has done. What x wants is extremely standard practice. Grizz are being very unreasonable. Seed, once again showing ur ignorance, x might start, thats the reason mayo played point on the summer league team. If mayo stays at 2, x will be first guard off bench. Ur dumb seed, very dumb. Whats funny is u say book it all the time, but I bet u dont read books, at least books with words

  • The Seed Posted: Aug.19 at 8:04 pm
    Total Scumtal
IF you really think X is going to start then the Grizzles might as well pack in the season. If X couldn’t do anything in College, then all of a sudden he is going to produce in the NBA LOL!!. Dude Mayo is a two guard, so who cares about summer league, it will not last, plus the Grizzles trying to push Gay as their best player says it all. Gay did nothing in College to me had a few games here and there, but was INCOSISTENT like X. Gay is for himself in the NBA and just ripped off the Grizzles for a max contract. So after overpaying for an expanison player would you overpay for an INCONSISTENT player that you drafted that didn’t even live up to the hype in college. NOOOO!! Also you have two INCONSISTENT players, who played well every once in a while for a team Starting. OK PLus cat, X the player is not worth it, trade this scurb for a veteran or a pick, he will not do anything for the Grizzles in the long run anyway. BOOK IT!!!

  • IDOT Posted: Aug.19 at 8:39 pm
Trade him to the Bulls. He would be a good fit next to Derrick Rose.

  • Dacre Posted: Aug.19 at 9:04 pm
    I like the name Xavier…

  • David -aussie in Canada Posted: Aug.19 at 9:15 pm
Seed, did you not read what total just wrote?? He did not say X is starting, he said “might”. But what he is saying, if that if he doesn’t start, he will BE the first guard off the bench.

  • tavoris Posted: Aug.19 at 11:03 pm
If/When the Grizz sign Henry, he WILL be the first guard off the bench. All the minutes behind Conley, Mayo, and Gay are going to Henry and Young. Oh, and the Grizz definitely overpaid for Gay. He’s going to be the EXACT same player over the next 8 or 9 years. It woulda hurt them to lose him tho (because the Bulls, Clippers, or Nets likely would have overpaid even more for the dude)

  • BossTerry Posted: Aug.20 at 1:39 am
@ Cub- yeah, I caught my own mistake, glad I did before I got torn apart in here.. Where did Jordan Crawford end up??

  • BossTerry Posted: Aug.20 at 1:40 am
ATL (as stated in your post)

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Aug.20 at 5:15 am
He was one of the top high schoolers in his year. He went to Kansas, where he bought into the team concept…after all, they had Aldrich, Collins, the Morris twins, and thought they could win a title. He didn’t dominate, but didn’t really need to…the kid has game. Why Memphis is doing this is beyond me. It’s almost as though Memphis looks for trouble. They should be bringing this guy in ASAP and preparing to battle for the 7th/8th playoff spot!!!

  • WangChung Posted: Aug.20 at 7:48 am
@Seed: And just how much did Mayo accomplish in college? Doesn’t seem to have affected his draft stock nor pro career much. He’s got an NBA body with NBA skills. Xavier is no different.
Co-sign total scrotal. Grizz just look cheeaaap.

  • kundai Posted: Aug.20 at 8:02 am
yuo joemama your 100% right this man is nice. they need to get this man under contract.

  • J Posted: Aug.20 at 11:13 am
i don’t care, but one thing i do care and want is to free OJ Mayo and Marc Gasol.. (Im secretly wishing for them to get traded to the cavs)
