Is Turiaf The Leader Of The Knicks?

by Jeremy Bauman / JBauman13

Ronny Turiaf just got to New York but Knicks fans have to love this attitude: “I can’t speak of the past because I wasn’t there on a regular basis so I can only speak for myself and what I know I can bring to the table. All I’m gonna tell you is that we are going to have guys that want to play hard, guys that’s definitely coming here to win, to make the necessary sacrifices to win basketball games. So I’m not here to speak about the past, but the future. We’re going to play team basketball. We are going to be playing together and everybody moving in the same direction. We are all here to win basketball games—not to lose. That’s something that people need to understand is that we will do whatever it takes, whatever we have to do to make that happen. I have talked to plenty of guys on the team already. I was on vacation with Gallo[Danillo Gallinari. I have been working out with Stoudamire every day. I have worked out with Toney Douglas. I have talked to Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton. And of course my two partners from Golden State Azubuike and Randy [Anthony Randolph]. So I’ve been in contact with a lot of those gus and I think they are excited and there is one key word: winning.”

talk is cheap, lets see if relates to anything on the court, mind you its the knicks and dantoni is still there, so dont hold your breath

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    Captain Turiaf, hands down.

  • http://www.phonetobuy.com LeoneL

Apart from Turiaf, who on the Knicks roster would you have as their leader?

Nice to hear. Now let’s see how this progresses once Eddie “The Hamburger Kid” Curry arrives at camp…

I’m actually kinda sorta maybe not really hoping for the Knicks to do better this year. As much as I’ve taken pleasure at watching their fans suffer, I really miss the days when the Knicks were competitive.

  • King Henry the 2nd

This team is focused on winning. They have already formed a bond and you can tell that they really want to prove everyone wrong. Can’t wait till the season. Let’s go Knicks!

  • unrel

good job ronny… was sad to see him leave LA.. but someone has to speak up for the knicks.. who the hell was their vocal leader during the last few years?

  • MikeC.

It’s about time we got back to talking about actually playing ball. The free agent circus is over. Let’s get a good training camp and preseason bond going and keep the focus on basketball. Go NY!!!

  • Fat Lever

Ok, so after they lose the Lebron sweepstakes, now they’re all about winning? Karma has a funny way of working, even when you don’t realize it.

  • Yesse

This is funny. Turiaf is a great person and i would want him to still be a Laker, but it’s business. Amare is the best Knick for sure, but Turiaf a leader? Will see.

  • Coney Islander

I’ve waited years to be able to enjoy watching my team play, maybe he can be our new OAK!

  • Jay

This team has lacked a vocal leader for years, and all logic points to Amare being that person (you know, being an all star and all), but it’s hard to imagine it since he has no experience as one, so you never you know who might be the guy calling the shots on the floor.

Turiaf was a great member of the Warriors. Guy played with a lot of heart every night!
Knicks are lucky to have him (and Randolph, and Azibuike)
    ..you’re welcome,
    golden state

Nice to see somebody taking on the leadership role. Seems like he’s been in contact with enough of the team and he has the confidence/passion. Not the most likely suspect, but there have been bigger surprises.

  • total scrotal implosion

Hes been working out with damon stoudamire? Doing the qtr ounce curl no doubt

  • MusketeerX

Ok… some guy named JayDee and his email address just popped up in my browser… weird.

I think the Knicks have needed this attitude for sometime. Turiaf can be that guy that just encourages others to play harder through sheer force of will.

y’all making too much of naming a “leader” before the season even starts.

Point is the Knicks have guys like Turiaf, STAT, Felton leading the charge instead of guys like Harrington, Hughes and Duhon. That is a HUGE improvement.

  • Ali Saadat

Eddy Curry is still a Knick?

  • MikeC.

^^^unfortunately yes, Ali. However, here are some words you can get very used to hearing over the next few months: “Eddy Curry’s expiring contract”.

  • MikeC.

Totally off-topic, but does anyone know where I can find a torrent download of the 1992 Dream Team’s Olympic games? I’ve been searching for awhile and can’t find.

a recent friend of mine went from being a phoenix fan to a knicks fan, since the amare trade but he thinks that Melo and CP3 are going play for the Knicks once free agency starts

  • http://slamonline.com Dave.

“everybody moving in the same direction:, i.e. towards the basket.

  • ab_40

amare and going all out on the court don’t go together. he’s too scared to get injured again and he can dominate like he did against LA in game 4 or 5 against the lakers in the playoffs but in the regular season he doesn’t go over 70% expecialy on defense. so he’ll fit in well with the knicks. Melo … I hope he stays with denver.
He’s too dumb to thrive in new york. He’ll make a lot of dumb mistakes there. Tony Parker will do what’s best for him and stay with san antonio or he’ll get traded. CP3 leaving new orleans will make him more hated than LBJ in cleveland. These guys obviously care more about money than the game itself. Dwight Howard is another example. He should work on his still terrible post game and he’s just traveling around the world. Why wasn’t josh smith with the usa tryouts?

  • Yann Blavec

    Coeur de Lion !!

  • http://slamonline.com Matt Lawyue

    No.

  • vtrobot

Eddy Curry doesn’t have the balls to still show up at training camps, right? Does the whole team bust out laughing when he walks through the door? I always want good things for the Knicks, so I hope they’re competitive and get back to the playoffs this year. I think everyone has always liked Ronny’s effort. I always liked what I saw from Azibuike during the few nationally televised GS games. Hope STAT doesn’t get hurt. Go Knicks.

    ze french oak !

  • JP

How can you not love Ronny ? He’s a great human been and a warrior on the court. Miss him as a Laker and wish him the best for his future.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

If I’m Donnie Walsh, there is no way I trade Turiaf. No way. Dude is a LEADER. He’s part of the formula for Knicks winning basketball.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

If Turiaf really is the leader they are screwed. Great talker, not so great at producing results. Sort of like someone else in a much more important position elsewhere in the country.
