Jose Calderon to Sit Out World Championships

Team Spain will be without Calderon, due to a leg injury suffered last night against the U.S. From the AP: “Spanish point guard Jose Calderon will miss the world basketball championships after picking up a leg injury in an exhibition match against the United States. Medical scans Monday revealed the Toronto Raptors player tore a muscle in his left leg in Sunday’s 86-85 defeat. Calderon left late in the game, with zero points and three assists. The Spanish federation says Calderon needs four weeks to recover.”

    Down goes Spain.
Actually, I like Navarro way better than Calderon, at least in international play. That little slow dude plays with attitude and he can shoot the lights out.

Well good thing they have Real’s Ljull.

They did really well against the US-JV team, I wonder how they’d do against the varsity team?

I know Calderon is a vet on this team and a leader..but this might give Rubio a chance to flourish. I look forward to see how Rubio responds with an even bigger role on the team now.

who would have believed that tj ford would end up being more durable?

  • ClutchPerformer Posted: Aug.23 at 3:37 pm
Co-sign ghost, he coulda built some hype around his name so the rAptors could trade his no defense ass

As other people have said, this may actually make Spain better. They now can play Rubio and Navarro more minutes, who are both better players than Calderon (who is more of a leader presence, which they don’t need cause they have no many leader types)

lol @ Sparker. I don’t actually think he’s more durable, he just doesn’t play enough to get hurt.

Maybe now we can see more of the OVERRATED Ricky “Martin” Fabio. I’m keep on saying that dude doesn’t have what it takes until he proves me wrong. I won’t be holding my breath though.

Calderon came to the NBA late, took time to adjust and just when he was starting to look like a top 10 PG (2-3 years ago) his body starts to slow down and looks defenceless on defence.

I am spanish. This is no way good for Spain, this is really really bad. Calderon is not at his prime but still is key in the rotation and should play 15+ good minutes for the team.
On the other hand US does not have their best players simply cause they don’t want to play, they are not commited to the team or country, so that is no excuse. This US team is the best you can bring, just as we don’t have Pau.
US is beatable this year but still favorite. My bet is for Spain though
