Keyon Dooling Looking to Mentor Brandon Jennings

Young Money’s backup says he’s got plenty of life and basketball lessons to pass on. The Journal Sentinel reports: “Dooling, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native, said he was looking forward to playing with Jennings, who started all 89 games for the Bucks last season while being named a first-team all-rookie selection. ‘Sometimes guys don’t want to be beat over the head with information and telling your life story,’ Dooling said. “I’ve had some conversations with him last year through a mutual friend. I think I have a unique ability to communicate with players, no matter what the situation is. Anything I know that I can help him with, I’ll give him. On the court, off the court, in life, whatever it is that he needs, I will always be there to give it to him and any one of my teammates.’”

Well as the older guy he could give Jennings some good advice. Not concerning basketball though.

I hooped with Keyon at MIZZOU. He’s a real good guy and would me a great mentor to Brandon Jennings. Just because he’s not as talented as Jennings doesn’t mean he can’t help him out.

@Jukai: most obvious joke ever. But Dooling isn’t all that bad. However, this has to be the most irrelevant news of the summer.

what’s with the Dooling hate? He’s perfect as a back-up.

Dooling is just saying he’s willing to help a young guy out. Nothing wrong with that, it’s nice to see that in the NBA.

Dooling is saying and doing the right things, in my opinion.
    He’s a politician.
    A politician who means well.
    He’s smart.

Hey! Rememer when keyon and ray allen got into it? That was serious!!!

This is a good gesture by Dooling. A lot of guys have a tough time transitioning into the fame and money of professional sports and the older player (not necessarily better) are great mentors as they have been through that transition already. When I first got to the United States it was actually a ‘lower level’ manager in the company that really helped my adjustment to this country. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t at the same ‘level’ from a corporate perspective, but because he came to the States a few years prior to me he was a great mentor as he had already experienced and navigated through many of the hurdles I was facing. I hope other NBA guys take note to what Kenyon is saying.

while yall are trippin, this is a 21 year old kid with millions of dollars, all of these young men need mentoring, and you can’t but appreciate a guy like Keyon for stepping up and lending an arm out to help guys coming up

…if ya’ll haven’t noticed Kevin Ollie hadn’t seen a lick up playing time on the OKC bench. theyre paying him because he has league and life experience that that young group of players need

Everybody needs to chill. Jukai’s joke is still funny. Ripping into Dooling is fine, I’m sure even he’d get it. He may be doing the right thing but it doesn’t mean we the public can’t take a few light shots at a guy who would probably school us if we were ever given the opportunity.
