Luis Scola To Play In Turkey

In the FIBA World Championship, that is. Fanhouse has more: “Luis Scola, weeks removed from agreeing to a fat contract with the Houston Rockets, has received clearance to play for the Argentine national team this summer at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. He has also received clearance to look dreamily toward the East on the Argentina national team’s website. The Argentines will still miss the team’s longtime talisman, Manu Ginobili. But Andres Nocioni, Argentina’s presumptive starting small forward, told Olé he expects Milwaukee Bucks wing Carlos Delfino to fill in admirably and make fans forget about Manu…Argentina is ranked No. 1 in the world by FIBA. The nation finds itself in Kayseri’s Group A, where advancement should be a breeze but Serbia looms as a major early test.”

manu already made them number one ranked..what else does he have to play for in the worlds?

  • Overtime

    ^To win?
Anyways, Scola has been a beast for Argentina before

Delfino is a really good, under-the-radar player.

@Moose – Yeah man I was in Beijing in 08 and I watched pretty much every b-ball game, Delfino had some unbelievable games for Argentina. Seeing how well he played for the Bucks at times this year came as no surprise to me.. I think a sixth man role for him is perfect, come off the bench looking to score and make some hustle plays.

Manu has already won. He’s won on every stage of the game. He doesn’t owe anyone anything anymore.

  • Overtime

@Jukai, if that was a response to my comment, I know he’s won already, and doesn’t owe it to anyone, but hes a competitve guy, these guys play to win…hence the reason he would go (and go to win)

manu is the best player in the world

manu broke his foot last year (or two years ago, cant remember) playing international ball. so i doubt pops will let him go and risk injury again this late in his career

As players get older and they’re closer to the end of their career than the beginning, I totally understand when they choose to pass on international competitions. International mileage has taken its toll on quite a few stars over the years. Young guys can rest up quicker and heal faster, but the older guys need to take care of themselves to extend their careers.

Argentina – Is that who came over and played a ‘friendly’ against Australia a few weeks ago? They didn’t have ANY notable players on the roster and got trounced by the BOOMERS, who are currently putting forward one of their weakest international teams in recent years for the championships in Turkey. AN UPDATE: Australia will not be featuring NBA young centre: Nathan Jawai, but will have Blazers gunner, Patty Mills on show.

  • rob

    @dacre, why wont jawai play?

  • Luiyo

As a person who follows international play all the time I can personally tell you, that’s Scola always has been Argentina best and most consistant player for the team in international competetion, his style of play is just perfect for FIBA style of basketball…. no disrespect to Manu, he’s the best argentine in the NBA

    How is Argentina ranked first???

  • franko

Scola is a great player! we (argentina) are gona be number 4 place or 3 in best case.

@Kap Because USA sucked from 2002-2008, only after they “redeemed” themselves in the summer of 08 only then can USA basketball score points in the international charts to overtake Aregentina. A win in the world championships should put them over the Argies.

Thanks because I was very curious about that.

I think Manu might have played, but fighting back from injury these last couple years and the fact that his wife just had twins made him reconsider.
