NBA Unveils Partial Schedule

The Heat all starts in Boston.

by Marcel Mutoni

Next Tuesday, we’ll find out what the full NBA regular season schedule looks like. For the time being, the League is only letting us in on the key (read: National TV) games.

Here’s to hoping you enjoy watching Miami Heat basketball; they’re going to be on television quite a bit. Not exactly a shocker.

NBA.com reports:

When it came time for the league honchos and TV big wigs to hash out which team would christen the NBA’s new campaign, there had to be just one question: Opponent? LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh’s debut as Miami teammates was really the only tip-off choice, and the Heat’s 2010-11 tour gets started against the squad they’re aiming for in the revved-up Eastern Conference. Count on the Boston Celtics gearing up for a rude welcome for the South Beach glamour boys in the first nationally-televised game of the season.

The Lakers begin their threepeat quest by breaking out their new rings in the nightcap at Staples Center against Houston. The last Tuesday night in October not only serves as the first official look at Bryant, Phil Jackson, Pau Gasol and the rest of the champs, but it also marks the return of Rockets All-Star center Yao Ming for the first time since the 2009 playoffs. Yao is on track for healthy return to prominence — and Houston plans to do the same in the West — after missing last season recovering from foot surgery.

Want more Heat? You’re going to get plenty this season, including a juicy Christmas Day stopover in Hollywood to tangle with the Lakers on ABC. The five-game holiday extravaganza also includes an East finals rematch in Boston-Orlando and the We-Got-New-All-Star-Power-Forwards clash in Chicago-New York.

As Dwyane Wade recently did his best Drake impersonation, you can thank the Miami Heat now.

So the rest of the basketball world will feel like what’s it’s been like as a Laker hater for the last three years? What a shame.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I can guarantee you every thursday on TNT will have a doulble header of Miami or Chicago first and Lakers or Thunder to finish the night off

  • Scottie Pimpin

    celtics vs heat…..nice.

  • byebye

I’ve been telln friends all along its calld heatv and get over it the league needed labron to win championships he can’t win in clev that is not a franchise that wins or a city that is known 4 winning cities win ships then they attract players to said city an they keep winning

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

the biggest hole in that heat line-up i think, if there’s any, is the center position.. joel and udonis are undersized, and z is s.. l.. o.. w.. all of their pivotmen are occasional centers.. meaning depending on match ups.. maybe its just me, i still like a traditional center which will be there most of the time.. Hope they can get at least a true center in size, good on D and rebounds, (ala Camby). I’m really amazed at the job they’ve done on picking up the bench. Damn, that Riley guy.. And I don’t have a problem at 1, cause i really feel Lebron’s gonna be the point.. at least on offense.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

And i think the cavs will be seen on national t.v. maybe 3 times this year.. thanks miami

  • Kundai

BOSTON – Lebron last game as a Cavalier, Now his first game as a Heat. Gotta love it

  • rich

ppl are sleepin on dexter pittman, like a regular sized glen davis clearly obese, but very quick feet

  • James

alot of people are talking about miami’s disadvantages at the 1 and 5 but nobody talks about the fact that, the OTHER team has to guard 2 of the best 3 players in the league and Chris Bosh (top 10 guy).

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

^james.. 3 of the best 10 in the league doesnt guarantee titles, you still have to cover those 1 and 5 spots. they could cover up the point, but the center’s gonna be tough. Would orlando attack the 2 3 4 spot? Of course they would attack at the 5,. Opponents will attack youre weaknesses not your strengths.

My Warriors got an Xmas Day appearance!

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@J, the Heat have actual centers though. They may not be great but it’s not like they’re having under-sized PFs manning the pivot. And people underestimate how great of help defenders Wade and Bron are. I’m not saying the chip’s decided this year but the following four years…=)

  • SpaceJam

d rose is almost the equivalent of d wade. brewer guards wade anyways. chalmers wishes he could handle rose. deng does a pretty good job on lebron and boozer is bosh’s equivalent. noah is a far superior to any of miami’s centers.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Idiot.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Can we start the season yet? 2 more months of waiting feels like its going to last forever.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

LA Huey, they have.. but, no one is a clear cut man for dwight. Or at least a good enough. Joel Anthony? Haslem? No. Dont ask z, ive seen that on my team.. and would you want wade and bron helping against a shooting orlando team? LA were able to shut dwight not just because of great help D, but also bynum is a good enough match for him. So as boston because perk could defend good with anyone.. AND good for your Warriors!

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

@e.. maybe space jam is high..

  • http://sdfjklf.com Jukai

    SpaceJam: Uhhhh… that… wow…

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

but dont get me wrong. i very much like the line up.. its just that a little.. on that 5 spot.. but who knows, spoelstra could find another way.. or riley could find another big guy..

he does know chalmers got quite a few votes for all defense team? or that lebron just finished torching the bulls in the first round? or that bosh averaged 27 and 13 against the utah jazz? it would have been smarter to mention their coach is the guy responsible for locking down wase and makin it look like lebron didnt care about basketball, he might have done that to bosh… if we made it to the playoffs.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@J, I think with any match-up though, you have to consider the match-up problems that both teams will have. I mean, Carter or Reddick trying to D-up Wade? I see a lot of drives into the lane for Wade and a lot of whistles on Dwight. So he might play as often as he did in the Bobcats series.

  • CelticsFan!

I agree with Kundai, it’s funny how LeBron ended his career with the Cavaliers in a game against the Celtics and now he’s begining his career with the Heat with a game against the Celtics.

  • T-Money

I don’t understand why people are talking about Miami’s shortcomings at the 1. Chalmers is a solid defender. At the 5, I hope they ride it out with Big Z for 25 mins a night and Joel for 15. Bosh can be the center at the end of games with Udonis at the 4, he won’t have to deal with Bynum then because the Lakers go Pau-Odom in crunch time. For Orlando, you can let Z or Anthony finish the games. And even then, it’s not like Dwight is going to give you 30+.

I wonder if the Cavs get more than 4 appearances on national TV [NBATV doesn't count], with all 4 of them being against the Heat. All I know is that Christmas is going to be full of drama as usual.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Boston by 20 points in the home opener. BOOK IT!!!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

rockets playing on opening night is a total surprise. i thought Yao isn’t healthy yet?
also, espn’s first night ends with blazers/clips? is blake griffin healthy to play?

  • The Philosopher

Chalmers is perfect for that job.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@albie1, will either Griffin or Oden be healthy?

  • MF

@SpaceJam:..That was one of the stupidest things I have ever read in my life

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

@LA Huey: totally forgot Oden existed. that’s probably the reason for this “showcase” match up? tag line: “former rookie-season-lost-to-knee-injuries number 1 picks cage match!”
oh and how bout them warriors? our starting lineup’s looking nice (read: more reasonable), but who’s on the bench now?

  • WangChung

@SpaceJam: Plenty of people have already gone off on you, and deservedly so. Leave the scouting for the big boys. I’m just as optimistic as you probably are about the Bulls, but those player comparisons are just ridonkulous.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

@space jam: hahahahahah, youre stupid…@LA Huey: sorry, but in this case I wish you a bad Christmas my friend, howeva Blazers in Oakland its allways a nightmare, we lose by 15 every time except for that comeback last year on ESPN..its like LAFakers in Portland, allways, and I do mean ALLWAYS, a$$whooped!

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@albie1, if Nelson’s still the coach by opening tip, we wouldn’t use the bench anyways. We’ll just trot out a Lim-Curry-Monta-Bell-Lee…
@Lisbon, we will return to our bizarro dominance this Xmas. =)

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

I’m tellin yall I’m gonna laugh my rump off if Boston wins. Then the media will probably say that the Heat are overrated. Hahaha

  • ENDS

take last years exact schedule and replace the word Cavs with heat and you have the national schedule. Boston Orlando Agian Bron vs Kobe again on Christmas

  • byebye

who was the bulls great centers when they was winning rest my case you r gonna have to defend the 2-3-4 spots nightly if you r gonna beat the heat get it beat the heat lol wow that was funny.

  • Rikson

In at least two years chalmers will put up rondo-numbers, and all those rajon bandwagoners will finally stfu…

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Some people are really fu*king stupid.

  • slamfan4life

    yeah bulls!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

It doesn’t always come to big guys. If you haven’t noticed, the value of bigs in the NBA has gone way down. You don’t need a great center to win anymore, just one that’ll grab boards and do the dirty work.

  • KennyD

Looking forward to see these BULLS GAMES LETS GO BULLS
