Opening Night: Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics

The Globe has sources claiming that it’ll be Boston and Miami facing off to kick-start next season on national television: “Miami’s new Big Three will be making their regular-season debut against the Celtics’ Big Three at TD Garden. According to a league sources, the revamped Heat, featuring the daunting trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, will open the NBA season against the Celtics Oct. 26, a clash that will be nationally televised by TNT. The league will release its opening week and Christmas Day schedules tonight on NBA TV, and it’s expected that the Heat and Celtics will be prevalent in those games.”

Not to speak for Jukai, but I think he’s saying that Z is a starting quality center, if not starting on Miami.
    Could be wrong.

  • T-Money

the philosopher: not sure i understand your clarifications. i’m even more confused now.

  • ConeyIslander

One more time, MIA in CLE on MLK day! They better deliver, that’s a no-brainier! lol

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Z is gonna have a foot injury sooner or later so I say start Anthony so they team does not lose a step when/if Z goes down. Joel adds more to team than Z does in my opinion with his shot blocking and offensive rebounding.

  • BostonBaller

I totally agree w/ Cheryl. I’m a C’s fan all the way but it’s funny when people say Miami will not jell, did anyone watch those three in the Olympics? I agree that The Heat will be amp’d EVERY game, their top 3 guys are young which tells me that 2 out of the 3 will be jacked and ready every game if not all 3. The luxury of having Wade n Bron is that they both are top 5 guys in the L so even if the entire team has a lapse during a game one of the two will be able to carry them just as they did in previous years. With that said I look for a very close game or we may get blown out in game 1 but as someone smartly stated above. “The C’s are a big picture team and Perk is in our BIG picture.

  • total scrotal implosion

Im still attempting to realize the total implications of dwyane wade and lebron james being on the same team.

  • T-Money

Kap: I don’t think you need to start Joel. He has no ego and he’s an energy guy anyways. Z is a slow veteran that needs to get loosened up. Z still eats up a lot of space, gets tip ins and has a money jumper.

  • T-Money

total: i know! nba 2k doesn’t do it justice. these guys are in the top 10 for points AND assists. and they’ve added a top 10 points/rebounds dude. i feel like bosh will be sneaking up on people, he did get 24-10 last year. it’s just…

  • The Philosopher

    T-Money:
I feel you. I’ll try again.
What I think he’s saying is that Z is still a starting center in The League, even if he doesn’t start for Miami.
    Again, could be wrong.

  • Th3_R3al_Chris

With The Big Diesel starting at Center for The Celtics. Count me in.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

How funny will it be if the Heat lose? What will their excuse be?

  • ClydeSays

Should be a fun game. Won’t be a real match up until Perk is back though. I imagine Team South Beach will be the Suns of a few years back (and the good Kings team)
    High scoring, run and gun…

  • http://sdfkjlf.com Jukai

No, I think Z SHOULD start for Miami… They don’t have any real great defensive presence at center, so you might as well start the guy who is gonna eat up a boatload of space in his 7’4 frame. Plus, as T-Money said, Big Z plays better starting out so he can be warm after practice.
Joel Anthony plays the same regardless.

  • http://sdfkjlf.com Jukai

The Promise: There’s always an excuse. Everyone who is saying the Heat wont win cause they have no bench/chemistry/defense will act like the Heat were DESTINED to win cause of their superior talent.
The people who act like the Heat are the clear cut favorites will blame a lack of bench and chemistry, and talk about next year.

  • bash

@jukai: LOL, yeah Dwyane Wade and Lebron are great on-ball defenders *rolling eyes*. They rarely put the best defensive players on the All-Defensive team, everyone knows that. Playing the passing lanes and guarding the worst player on the other team so you can get steals and leak out doesn’t make you a good defensive player. And Big Z is supposed to be a defensive presence in the middle? Be a student of the game, not a fan.

  • The Philosopher

^^I agree that at this point Z is a defensive liability.
    Who else do they have?
Joel Anthony is younger, thus more lithe, but then there is Juwan Howard.
If they jump him at center, he will be undersized.
Either way, the Heat are going to be fine.
Even without the defensive presence at center, they are deadly.
    Just pure deadly.

  • T-Money

Um Bash… actually, yeah… Bron and Wade are very good on-ball defender. LeBron just swallowed Paul Pierce in the playoffs.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Who cares, Orlando is winning the east.

  • http://sdfkjlf.com Jukai

Bash: Lemme guess, you think Wade and Lebron shouldn’t be there, but Kobe should, right?
    Z isn’t a good defender but he’s not a liability. No way.

  • CelticsFan!

I actual think this could be a really good game. Should be very interesting. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START!!!!!!

  • Jacob (from Australia)

2010 All Star Game. Wade MVP with 28, 11, 6 and 5 steals. LeBron with 25, 6, 5 and 4 steals. Bosh 23 and 10. I can’t wait to watch the Heat play to be honest.

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

I really feel everyone who’s crying out for Miami at Cleveland. But think about it-you get a bunch of angry maniacs screaming and booing at Lebron, but by the end of the 3rd quarter, when Miami is up 25, noone will care anymore. I want to see The Queen get booed out of the Q too, but I’d much rather watch my boys spoil her Opening Night fun.. (in person too-can’t wait)

  • JTaylor21

Do all you clowns even know that the heat were the second best defensive team last year. Then you trade beasley for bron; who’s light years ahead defensively. Him and Wade are gonna wreck havoc on opposing backcourts. Kobe better trade places with that broad from colorado because he’s gonna get violated in so many ways with no vaseline.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

@Jukai: Yes, there will always be an excuse for LeBron. The guy makes me sick man, hes such a cop-out. Boston will be hard to get by in a 7-game series. They ain’t won nothin’ yet.

  • http://sdfkjlf.com Jukai

The Promise: I Like how you only read half of what I read. Selective reading at its best.

Vince Carter: “Which one of you teams am I going to choke against?”

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Will definitely be something if Rondo shows up and out-Lebrons Lebron on opening night en route to a win. But ultimately this is just one game, right? No significance in the big scheme of things.

  • oinestep

The new big 3 vs the old big 3…….can’t wait

  • hobbes

JTaylor u can scuk on Bron’Dcik while Egirl n Jugay matserbate 2 each other.

  • LB

It’s a decent opener. There needs to be a little momentum built before the Heat hit Cleveland. Win one for the King Shaq er..the Celts..

  • WangChung

    1. I’d have greater doubts about Bron’s mid-range game than his defensive abilities.
    2. LOL @ Anton.
    3. @Hobbes: Dude, you need to deal your own issues about sexual orientation and quit projecting onto others. It’s not a good look.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Miami at Cleveland doesnt go on opening night simply because lebron wont be able to play the next 81 games after.. jk.. but seriously, the only time i’ll root against Miami is when they play Cleveland..

  • hobbes

wangchung hows yr hk gf doing?

  • RayD

Ok, my buddy called me this morning to tell me HE HAS TICKETS FOR THE CELTICS VS HEAT OPENER!

    Yeah baby!

  • Andre

I think it’s going to be a very interesting season, and it’s a great opener. Boston is the best team in the East while we can’t evaluate Miami, that’s the favorite for the bookers.

The Magic won’t be a problem for Miami imo. Their frontcourt is a joke compared with Miami’s. Howard is not enough to even things. I just think Magic could be a much better team considering Lewis and Carter make more than 20mi/year.

The great point is how much work Bosh can give on the post to opposing teams with size, like Boston or Lakers. And if Bosh/Z/Joel/Lebron will be able to compete for rebounds with those teams. They’ll have a hard time facing Gasol/Bynum(if health) or Perking/KG/Shaq/JO’Neal.

I don’t know how they’re going to deal with this, but maybe with Wade ability to make plays, something Mo/West couldn’t make on Cavs, Lebron can play a little closer to the post, where his size makes difference.

  • AKAUDIO

Boston Celtics win! Miami is not a super team Miami has some new stars lets see if they can play some ball together. Boston is a super team they have had time to mesh and really play ball as a team they are a older team but wiser and more exp and i mean b ball is not football you can be old and still play for example well just look at Jason kidd!. so all the older players on the Celtics are good still in there prime and can brake out and make buckets at any time shaq will body anybody in the nba period! how my nuts taste! lebron lol. i feel this will be a close one but Celtics take this one rondo is going to shine this season he has enough speed for all the Celtics
