Opening Night: Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics

The Globe has sources claiming that it’ll be Boston and Miami facing off to kick-start next season on national television: “Miami’s new Big Three will be making their regular-season debut against the Celtics’ Big Three at TD Garden. According to a league sources, the revamped Heat, featuring the daunting trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, will open the NBA season against the Celtics Oct. 26, a clash that will be nationally televised by TNT. The league will release its opening week and Christmas Day schedules tonight on NBA TV, and it’s expected that the Heat and Celtics will be prevalent in those games.”

The NBA sh* the bed….it should have been Miami @ Cleveland. That may have been the most watched opening night game in the history of the NBA.

  • Groves

    cosign Eboy

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Miami @ Cleveland would have been a kick in the teeth for the Cavs. I’m sure they’ll tuck that game away during a slow period in the season to avoid as much ugliness as possible.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

co-sign Eboy but then what else would Cleveland fans have to look forward to the rest of the season?

  • Filipe

#3 is right. It would be great for ratings, but awful for Cavs and is fans. League will hide that game (probably puting it during NCAA tournment).

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

@omphalos…I don’t know, if the Cavs could have willed themselves to pull off the upset in front of a rabid, out of blood crowd, that may have been the greatest win in the history of the Cavs organization.

  • ber

I doubt Stern cares about the Cleveland fans’ feelings. It’s all about the ratings.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@Filipe, I disagree. The league might not milk the cow for what its worth but it’s gonna get that milk.

  • http://Www.lkz.net Darksaber

So X-Mas game is Team Nazghul vs. LA, right? Btw, now that Pat Beverley has signed with Miami, does Olympiakos Athens have ANY star wings left? Childress, Kleiza (played the 3 in Greece a lot) are also back in the L.

  • http://Slamonline.com Philly

    terrible opener

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I want the Knicks to come get a hiding in PHX during the pagan festival of saturnalia (25th december).

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

The Bulls heading up the mountain (salt lake)… Miami head to LA… John Wall vs Chris Paul.

  • Sam

How about we make Miami @ Cleveland on Valentines Day….that would’ve been the funniest game ever created. Still, it should be Boston @ Miami, for the sake of opening night being for the Miami fans, so they can have the honor of watching them play first.

  • Dagger

Yeah, why would the league showcase a game between the current EC champs VS the league’s new title contenders on opening night? Why not have a game – Cleveland VS Miami – that celebrates the absolute worst the league had to offer this summer and might result in a really ugly scene? Brilliant idea guys . . . .

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

who cares about the opening game, really? they’ll all play rusty and whoever wins, the press will act like that team has the edge in a playoff duel. ridiculous sht like that.

  • T-Money

Cheryl, I know it means nothing in the grand scheme of things but opening games are still lots of fun. First opportunity to see the pieces that were brought in over the summer play a meaningful game.

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

Celtics have a big 4…Rondo counts. Should be a good game. Tag line should read: Eddie House faces off against his former team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Old super team vs New super team.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

So you guys would rather watch a blowout than two teams who could meet in the ECF. You guys are so smart…

  • byebye

The league will only show that cle vs mia on national tv twice the heat goin 4 75 wins good golly lol

  • LM

So agree with you Kap, I think a Miami @ Cleveland would be interesting, but no one wants to watch a blowout the first night. Celtics vs Heat is worth watching and will generate ratings, as I’m sure they will employ Old vs New Big 3. Icing on the cake would be if the Celtics crush them….which I hope they do. Go Celtics!

  • T-Money

Clevelanders say they want Bron on opening night but I don’t think they REALLY want him to go for 40+ on Joey Graham and the game to be by 20 midway through the second quarter. That’s the new reality for Cleveland.

  • Kundai

I like it look at wade to explode little bit of a grudge for knocking them out last season.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Bulls at Knicks on Christmas. I love it.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

Damn, this will probably be the hardest game to get tickets to in Boston this season, Lakers included.

  • funkdoc

I honestly think that things could get very, very ugly when Miami plays @ Clevenland. I mean, very, very ugly. I hope they check the fans for guns; seriously. Imagine if something happens to ‘Bron…

  • funkdoc

    Cleveland*

  • Javy

If a fan jumps out to the court and punches LB in the face, then I would watch Cleveland vs Miami.
Otherwise, Old, veteran, high-cholesterol celtics is a better choice. Celtic’s are looking to get younger by trying to sign Shaq…that can help!!!
The game of the season will be Lakers vs Miami…other than that, it will be a walk in the park for those clowns in the East.

  • Ali Saadat

If it was Miami @ Cleveland then Cleveland would get destroyed on its home floor. But with Boston and Miami it could be a close game.

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

    sadly, funkdoc may be right…

  • http://sdfjklf.com Jukai

I’m actually gonna go crazy and agree with Kap. Who the hell wants to see the Cavs get blown out by their former savior? Pretty dumb idea, guys.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Wait….the Heat are viewed as being good now? I thought all of you morons said that the Heat “will struggle with timing, getting to know each other, unfamiliarity” and ……oh yeah….Lebron sucks. The Cavs could have been the favorites if that’s the case, no

  • The Philosopher

    Funcdoc, letsmotor:
I understand the concern, for one never really knows what another is thinking at any given moment.
But, The League probably will cross t’s, dot i’s.
    This is The King.
They can’t let anything happen to The King.

  • MikeC.

I’m amped up for this game. I think we’re going to see KG’s intensity jump to a level comparable to the 2008 Finals. I’d give the first-game edge to the Celtics based on continuity and familiarity amongst the players and coaches. Maybe KG’s head will spin around and fire will shoot from his eyes.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

@Eboy, looks like they’ve been upgraded to “evil clowns”.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Eboy that’s some crazy spin right there.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Not really, Allen, I was being sarcastic, but I’ve heard this more than you’d believe.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

LA Huey, whatever their nicknames may be, all the haters can go suck on Pat Riley’s grey, wrinkled nutsack and pleasure the best GM in the league.

  • Allan

Miama will get an ass kicking from Boston’s big three. I doubt whether Miama will gel enough on the first day to beat a championship team Boston ! I hate Miama now because Lebron and a non-elite-pretending to be Chris Bosh.

  • SpaceJam

I think would be a great match. Especially because Boston would be fresh with all of their old legs. But I wish it was Miami and Chicago; the 2 teams that had the best off seasons. I Think the Bulls could take them.

  • horsey

is miama a cool new nickname for miami? doesn’t have the same ring to it but i guess i’ll give it a try…miama wins in boston by 4.5, unders at 195.

  • T-Money

I think Miami is going to try to prove a point next year exactly like the Celts in 08 and just dismantle teams. People are sleeping on the kind of Team USA-style defense those 3 are going to play with a coach like Spo. Miami was ALREADY one of the best defensive teams in the league. You’re going to see some really ugly scores like 98-72 vs Charlotte and things like that. Unlike the Lakers and the Celts, Miami will not be a “big picture” team next year, they’ll try to prove a point every single game. This is going to be must see tv.

  • R2J

I don’t believe Miami will come on top in the east, where is their defense? Miami looks like the Suns of the east with so so defense!

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

I see Miami taking pride in their defense with Bron and Wade ignite some open court SLAMadamonth-worthy plays. This is going to be fun.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Damn Jukai, how you gon put me on blast like that??? I always make good points. It’s just that you guys never get those points.

  • http://sdfjklf.com Jukai

Where is the defense on Miami which has two first-team all NBA defenders, a fantastic defensive minded point guard and a 7’4 starting center?
    Good question.

  • http://sdfjklf.com Jukai

Sorry Kap, never said you weren’t a smart dude, just meant we don’t always see eye to eye!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Its cool, I never take offense to anything on this site.

  • Overtime

Can you actually imagine, if it came to it that Lebron missed critical free throws, and someone had a massive dunk on him, or J.J Hickson swatted him, or something like that, just imagine the smiles on the face of Cleveland

  • T-Money

Juks: you think Z gets the starting nod? He showed last year that he is CLEARLY better in a starting role but every analyst seems to agree that Joel will get the starting nod. I seriously look at Joel as 10-15 mpg guy MAX. I think Z can still give you 25 mins.
