With Yao Ming resting up for the coming season, the weight of Team China has been put squarely on Yi Jianlian’s shoulders this summer. The 7-footer was recently moved from Jersey to DC, and will be playing alongside John Wall & Co. in ’10-11. –Adam Figman

Whoa he looks a lot older in these pics.

  • T-Money

I really can’t figure out why Yi is not performing at the NBA level. He is lean, strong, tall, quick, has a nice shooting touch… yet he sucks and shoots 40% from the field as a 7-footer. Is it all mental? That seems to be too easy.

  • Drew

I agree with T-Money. I think it’s all mental and he just doesn’t have that drive to be the best. It makes me mad to think about some of these guys having the God given talent to play this game we all love and some of them don’t have that drive to improve and compete with the best.

    No, Yi can’t.

With Yao out for the Middle Kingdom, Yi needs to average about 20/8/5 for this tourney. If not, he’s about as good an investment as Tim Thomas.

@ T-Money: He was playing nicely before the injury last season… Good point though.

    Oh No Yi Didn’t!

  • Roy

i loled when i saw these pics

  • Red

    He sucks, to be blunt.

  • Red

Yao will kill this man 5x over. Cute uniform ripoff of the USA too.

  • mike

i agree, he has the athletic ability, the skill set , and all the tools to be one of the top players in the league, what separates him from someone like him and Kevin Durant? i hope he figures out how to be great soon

  • andre anglais

That is a super cool jersey, though. EZ Yi has talent, but I think, like a lot of players who are good but not great, he lacks the “feel” for the game that the great ones have – its a bit like charisma, but for sports. Its not something you can teach or learn, you just have it. Saying that he lacks drive is just disrespectful. Making it to the NBA, especially from another country, is proof that you have drive.

  • Hannah

    Yes,he can!!Of course he can,believe him!!

  • Triple Double

    Well said Andre Anglais…

  • ab_40

the tim thomas comparison is correct in my book untill he has a good season. blatche is still injured so the starting 4 pos is up for grabs in dc. let’s hope he makes something out of it if not.. john wall will take all 150 million of his fans from him haha

  • Ronald

Did some retard just call these a rip-off of american jerseys? God, you’re a douche.

  • dimo

would you take him into your fantasy team?

  • hobbes

Yi is a small forward trapping in a 7ft body, he’s too soft to play inside with no low post game.

  • Karl

Hopefully Red never EVER posts again. How do they look alike? Wish Yi all the best for the upcoming Worlds and NBA season. I guess this is make or break for him.

  • Tupack Shakur

    @Red @Ronald @Karl
Nike did both jerseys. So while it’s definitely not a “rip-off”, and I agree that Red’s comment was idiotic, MANY of the national team jerseys look similar. It’s not hard to see. Just search “Nike Twill” at the online store, and you’ll see…all of the jerseys have that same screenprinted design on the back.

  • Red

    how dont they look alike..?

Idiotic? How so..? Because I have a created opinion no matter how strong I made it. YOU my friend are an idiot:) The only douchebags here are the 1s upset over an opinion online. ok cool:)

    Mo beat me to it

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

    I’m thinkin’ lo mein tonight.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

Chinas jerseys are hot. Yi is 47 years old.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

This might sound weird, but he doesn’t look 7ft in these pics. He’s so in proportion with no frame of reference he could just be a regular guy. I don’t understand why he is underperforming so badly. I hope he can have an impact in DC, if Wall can boost McGee he should be able to do the same for Jianlian.

  • tavoris

before the Injury, Yi was getting in the post a lot. He was looking A LOT like a Dirk-mini.

  • The Philosopher

He always reminded me of Keith Van Horn.
Maybe he’ll put it all together.

  • Coney Islander

You know what…he kinda does remind me of KVH.

    dude’s head seems tiny.

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

Receding hairline. He will be a nice floor spacer and backup to Andray Blatche. The Wizards got some good depth now with Yi, Al Thornton behind Josh Howard, Nick Young/Kirk Hinrich behind Gilbert Arenas, and Hinrich/Arenas behind John Wall. Too bad their starting center is really a back-up (JaVale McGee) and their back-up center doesn’t belong in the NBA (Hilton Armstrong).

  • PG

So according to Red, Nike ripped off Nike. Ha! Dude, Nike designed both the U.S. and China jerseys. What a moron.

  • mike

he actually didnt play too bad last season.

  • ai come back

lol he had 10 10 games and 20 10 games but then he injured and had 5 5 games lol

  • Jase

@Red, they’re the exact same jersey. Nike designed a lot of the FIBA uniforms this year. They were all released at a press conference with Yi, Durant, and Nowitzi jerseys displayed for the respective countries. The only difference in them is a motif relating to the native country’s flag, but the striping and such are the same.

    Co-sign tavoris.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Sure as hell made the Greek bigs look silly last night. Great 26&14 line and now seems more comfy in the post, sealed those guys up damn good on multiple plays. Fantastic game by him, now that Wang Zhi Zhi fella…

  • http://slamonline.com Matt Lawyue

Another solid outing for Yi tonight in a China win, 26 and 9…

  • xplore

like the uniforms. him and yao are what you call solid honorabe warriors.

  • Dark Kai

Whoever said his proportions are equal was bang on. He looks like an ordinary 6footer.

I want to see Washington play this season.
