Ricky Rubio Intends to Play in Spain Next Season

After winning the 2010 Euroleague for FC Barcelona, Ricky doesn’t seem in a rush to join the League. From Reuters: “I am still talking to Minnesota but at the moment it’s not foremost in my thoughts,” Rubio said. “Next year we’ll think about whether I go over there. I’ll talk with whom I need to talk to, with Barcelona, with Minnesota, with my agents, and we’ll decide.” He said that once he does join the NBA, “I intend to stay there as long as I can.”

is this dude ever gna come over? he is probably just waiting for a chance to get on with some other team.. i would

  • ConeyIslander

    I still don’t see the hype…

I still don’t know why he bothered to put his name in the draft if he had no intention on playing til his contract was over.

  • http://google c_cantrell

i believe he did on intentions that hopefully he would be selected by a team that could improve alot in a year or 2 and is jus waiting on minny to improve.. but since it looks like they might never improve it seems as if he is waiting for his contract to run out so he can sign with another better team.. hope this helps..

This is not news. He said last year that he would stay 2 more years in Spain.

  • Clipperfan

He wanted to get drafted by a big-city and/or good team where he could make money with endorsements to cover his enormous buyout with his old team. Minnesota offered neither and made the mistake of drafting Flynn instead of another player that could help Rubio.

Rubio left to another european team that would pay his huge buyout in exchange for a multi-year deal. His new deal has a buyout that decreases with every year that he plays for them. The new contract essentially guaranteed he’d stay there for at least 2 years so this isn’t news.

Also, I believe if he out last the rookie contract, 3-4 years, he can sign with any team, kinda like a free agent. Although there are some salary restrictions that wouldn’t allow him to get anything close to the max.

Spanish tapas or Minnesota blueberry muffin (it’s their state muffin)? David Kahn or anyone else? jac is right, this is not news. We knew Rubio wasn’t coming over anytime soon.

Kahn’t figure out why he wouldn’t want to go to Minny.

  • Someloser

He better be *really* freaking good when he decides to play in the NBA. Otherwise he’ll be the biggest punk ever.

Rubio gonna be such a bust in the NBA. BOOK IT!

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHI-TOWN SAID IT JOE

    he scared

  • Yesse

I think he is somewhat scared, that he might not be as good in the Nba as in europe. He just wasted Nba’s time putting his name in the draft.

  • Ryan

    @^^^^ yea he scared lol.

  • JTaylor21

This Fu*k boy is scared. He knows that deep down inside he doesn’t have what it takes to live up to all the hype that idiotic journalists have placed on his overrated/overhyped behind. Now with all these young great points that are piling into the league year after year he has even more things to be afraid about. I’ve tried to watch dude with an open mind but I just don’t see anything that says he’ll be remotely good.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

Hes weaker, slower then all the players in the States, He has a lot of skill but hes soft and hes a pu*sy because hes scared to come to the league.

  • TheTruth

I don’t know what people are expecting he hasn’t even won an mvp or championship yet in the euroleague. His team was sweep by tiago splitter’s team. He might win an mvp and a chapionship this year since tiago signed with the spurs, but by no means should he be considered the best player in europe.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

    This makes me sad.

  • http://Yahoo.com Sergio

Wow people still remember this boy. Hope minnesota trades him to the clippers.

  • FearTheDeer

not be as good? he held his own against team usa and their premier pg’s. we all know what he’s capable of and i believe he will do it really WELL. just dont expect huge scoring outputs duhh

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    LOL @ Chris.

  • Yesse

Good point, FearTheDeer. That is why i don’t know what he is still doing in europe. Maybe it was luck? I have seen many europeans give hard time to Nba players in national team games.

Look at the first eight words of the article. Read them until you understand them.

Also he hasnt won an MVP yet, probably because he is only 19. Thats like saying Rondo is garbage because he hasnt won an MVP, or Chris Paul is garbage.

And scared has nothing to do with it. He would have had to basically play for free last year and this year because of his buyout. Would any of you play two years for free just so idiots on a message board wont say they are scared?

  • WangChung

Look y’all, this kid is like what..19 or 20? This NSync-looking kid is gonna freeze his a** off in Minny rather than be surrounded by throngs of fine Spaniard babes and sandy beaches? Call me stupid, but I’m gonna choose the latter..whether I’m 19, 20, or 65.

  • JD

    RicGay Rubihomo did it again

  • rikson

God you guys are aggressive… All over this kid bc he made an decision! Time to chill people… if you know what “chill” is!

  • Coney Islander

From what I’ve seen this kids looks like an AVERAGE YMCA rec-league 6th man. Real talk.

How about the fact that this punk a*s kid put his name in and screwed the wolves. Like they are good enough to give up a first round pick. That was a chance to get a better team and it was wasted on some overrated puke that thinks he is bigger than the game.

  • wolves

I as a wolves fan hope he stays over there.

  • Mike from Spain

This boy is scared… blah blah blah… Rubio had to pay friggin’ 5 million bucks to be able to leave his team and go to the NBA!!! Stop just talking nonsense.

On the other hand, he’s probably not as good as hoped to be, but that’s nothing to do with his decision to stay in Europe a little longer! It is the money, stoopid!
