UPDATE: Brown’s agent confirms that he’ll be back in Laker Purple & Gold for a couple of more years: “The Lakers and free agent point guard Shannon Brown have agreed on a two-year contract worth $4.6 million, Brown’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Thursday morning. ‘Shannon could have made more money somewhere else, but I think he really wanted to play this out with the Lakers,’ Bartelstein said. ‘They’ve won it [all] two years in a row and the chance to win three straight [championships] doesn’t come around every day.’ Brown is likely the last piece of the Lakers’ offseason puzzle. Though the negotiations took longer than expected, he and the team had expressed a desire to work a deal. Brown strongly considered the New York Knicks and New Orleans Hornets.”
According to his agent (talking to the NY Post), the Knicks will lose out in the Shannon Brown “sweepstakes”: “The Knicks’ chances of landing free agent shooting guard Shannon Brown are just about over. Mark Bartelstein, Brown’s agent, told The Post the Lakers guard is ‘leaning’ toward returning to the Lakers to go for a ‘three-peat.’ Brown is expected to make his final decision Thursday. The Knicks, according to a source, offered Brown a one-year contract as they moved to protect their 2011 salary cap for a run at Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks offered Brown the full $2.7 million that they are under the cap. The Lakers have offered the fourth-year guard less per season, but multiple years. ‘The Knicks did a great job selling Shannon on everything and their vision for him,’ Bartelstein said. ‘They did a great job but the chance to go back and win a third championship for the Lakers is a tough thing to pass up. He’ll make a final decision (Thursday).’ The Knicks were leaning toward making the super-athletic Brown their starting shooting guard, but also saw him as a solid sixth man.”
