Tracy McGrady To The Pistons?!

First Tracy McGrady was linked to the Clippers. Next he was said to be headed to Chicago. Now it seems that Detroit may be where the former scoring champ winds up playing in 2010-11. Marc Stein breaks it down: “Tracy McGrady might be playing in the Central Division next season, but not with the team he was anticipating. The Detroit Pistons are seriously weighing whether to sign the two-time scoring champion after McGrady’s recent flirtation with the Chicago Bulls, according to sources with knowledge of Detroit’s thinking. DraftExpress.com’s Jonathan Givony reported earlier Saturday that the Pistons have already committed to sign McGrady to a one-year deal at the league’s $1.35 million veteran minimum, but one source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Pistons officials were ‘taking the weekend’ to discuss the move. Another source said Saturday night that no deal has been signed but that the parties are ‘in discussions.’ Nearly two weeks after a high-profile audition with the Bulls at their practice facility, McGrady appeared to have lost all hope of landing with the team he badly wanted to join when Chicago struck an agreement Friday with veteran swingman Keith Bogans. But the Pistons have unexpectedly emerged as a suitor for McGrady after a quiet summer for Detroit that has been attributed in some league circles to owner Karen Davidson’s reluctance to spend given her well-chronicled desire to sell the team.”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! This would suck so badly if we signed him our backcourt is stacked anyways so why would JoeD want to sign him?

  • Wayne M

Um…didn’t he say he wanted to play for a contender? Last time I checked, the Clippers don’t fit that bill…

  • funkdoc

I don’t think McGrady has a superstar year left in him, but I would be pissed off if the Bulls don’t need you and a week later they sign Keith freakin’ Bogans! Bogans may be a good role player, but McGrady is better than Bogans, even at this point in his career. I’ve been wondering for years now how McGrady is able to keep his hopes up and not getting depressed. Although he might say stupid things at times, I still feel sorry for him. He wants so badly, but his body doens’t allow it.

  • Lazarus

why? hes better than tay right now imo and hey id prefer him as my playmaker over stuckey. 1 year for min, its a pretty nice deal for pistons.

for mcgrady not so good a deal, as mentioned a stacked backcourt and i thought the team was rebuilding. couldnt he get min on a contender?

  • cramzy

so much for finally getting out the first round…i really want T-mac to do well but Detroit son? BG, Rip, Tayshaun? This is not a good look.

no no no no no no no no…………*pounds face*…who do we go from the Bulls to this. ughhhhhhh so frustrating, It doesn’t matter anymore I just hope he gets another shot in the NBA…thats just a bit dissapointing for me though- just would really love to see him in post season play. Of course his days as an elite NBA player are either running out or over but you can’t tell me a properly rehabbed TMac isn’t better than say John Salmons or some of these other players teams are so willing to drop 10 mil + on….whatevs

lazarus: If I have to choose between Prince and T-Mac, or Stuckey and T-Mac, I will always go with Prince and Stuckey. I hope T-Mac can play painfree, but he just isn’t healthy. And I doubt he ever will be.

  • Yesse

I dunno would this be a good move.

  • oms123

no way! stay in new York better yet hav a go at Chicago

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

Detroit must be in worse shape than we thought. Maybe the Pistons should have asked for a bailout.

  • Mr. Robinson

he should be able to help them

  • hammer

Man. This is giving me flashbacks of rashard lewis on draft day 98! That was sad 2 c especially when he was tearing up. I thought THAT was bad @ the time but now this tmac situation? I stomach it no more. Its sad 2 c that really not that long ago(2-3yr span)tmac was a superstar n every sense of the word. I wish sum1 would give my man a shot but I also understand the reason as 2 why teams won’t.

hoopshype is showing a report that he already signed with them, but no one else is.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

WOW, Keith Bogans?!!?! Bulls WILL win it all!!! surprised no Bulls homer said it

  • Cool Dude

This is what you get for spurning the Bulls during your earlier free agency Tmac.

  • tavoris

The T-Wolves wants a team full of point guards, and the Pistons want a team with NO point guards. Really with Toronto’s need for a 2 & Detroit’s need for a 1, how come a Calderon-for-Rip deal hasn’t taken place? Throw in a few scrubs and the numbers will match.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

If they get T-Mac he will start at the 3, Rip is getting traded for sure now and Tayshaun might too. Joe Dumars is blowing this whole thing up.

  • Scottie Pimpin

We Want Ben Gordon Back !

  • The D Train

Not sure if anyone realizes this, but Thibs is planning on rocking Brewer, Korver, Deng and James Johnson at the 2/3 spots. The Bulls didn’t need anything more than a 12th man. T-Mac was obviously not having that, as affirmed by his post-Chi-workout comments. Good for Detroit. Now they can have Gordon and T-Mac. Ben, Chicago doesn’t miss you dude. Not at 10 million a year. That chucker was never going to be anything more than an impediment to Rose’s career. Give me a 6’7 defender to play alongside Rose, not a 6’3 gunner who never passes the ball or plays D. Sorry about it Pistons fans, but better you than us…

  • snuff

this wont work for both. a contender should get tmac, and tmac should not think he is superstar or all star anymore. in this stage of his career (especially with the injuries) he should be more of a contributor, 6th man or role player. not 1st, 2nd or 3rd option. plus the pistons should just rebuild for now. maybe trade tayshaun and rip for draft picks, young players with potential, etc.

T mac jus give it up..ur new name shud be t wack

  • hammer

Hey Trailblazingand sportingLisbon:just so u know. No bulls homer(a tru 1 right here)hasn’t said that the bulls will win it all this year 4 cuz we know better. I would like 2 believe we will. Its been 12 looooong yrs since we did so it definitely is time. But us bulls fans r realistic and skeptic. Skeptic bcuz we have had suppossedly good teams n the past only 2 c them underachieve. On paper we good. But that’s why u play the games. If it weren’t that way then the 04 lakers should have been champs right? We got a very good team this year. The best we have had n 12 yrs. Here’s hoping it translates 2 a title but I and all bulls fans will not go as far as 2 say that we will undoubtely win it all.

  • hammer

And no. We do NOT want ben gordon back! U could keep him detroit. @ 1st I did miss gordon when he left. But then I realized that there was life after bg. And its 4 the best that we moved on w/out him. He simply wasn’t worth the c.r.e.a.m.that he was demanding

  • http://www.triplejunarthed.com/dacre Dacre

T-Macs career is looking VERY close to over, AI’s could be also. Shaq JUST got in, based on taking whatever came his way by August… see how things pan out.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

@hammer: i was being sarcastic, Bogans´s a scrub.. you guys look better, like really better but you can not beat Orlando and Miami, maybe even Boston…so I was joking to the Bulls fans and other people who came here after Bulls signed Brewer and said: “WOW, BULLS ARE LOOKING SCARY”..lol, no they dont, theyre looking better, like”3 or 4 best in the lame East conference”better.

  • hammer

My bad trailblazingand sportinglisbon. Also..I completely agree with u

  • The D Train

I love the Bulls. My fav. I love the Blazers. My number 3 behind whatever team Dirk currently plays on. Blazers and Bulls would probably split 10 games out of 10. They are both fun to root for, but TrailBlazing’s sarcasm makes no sense. The Blazers standing in the Western Conf is similar to the Bulls in the East. Neither is obviously superior, so just because Portland plays in the “perceived” superior conference does not make them superior. Sorry, TB&SL.

  • The D Train

To explain…if the Blazers were in the Eastern Conference, they too would be “like*3 or 4 best in the lame East conference.” Sorry, but as much as I like the Blazers, they are not better than Boston, Miami or Orlando.

  • Jake

He’s a year older than Joe Johnson and he gets the veteran minimum….what a shame:(

  • ld

Great. The ultimate loser machine goes to D town.

  • total scrotal implosion

    Its all grant hills fault

  • http://iamBCtoday@yahoo.com iamBCtoday

No! Big no mac! Wtf? Take your time to decide. Stay in New York or go to the Bulls. This is the best you can get.

  • TADOne

I’m laughing at you idiots who think Detroit is a bad team/franchise.

  • tavoris

@TADOne…definitely not a bad team, but they have a lot of players with overlapping skill sets, and no real low post scorer or distributor

  • slamfan4life

    you’re joking right? Detroit sucks

The Detroit Pistons are a mess. 2 cents.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

This is a good gamble, 1.3Mil for what could still potentially be a 20pt 5ast player. At the min, he’s still a threat with limited minutes. On the downside, he gets injured and misses a boatload of games. A 1-year deal may be great for him because if he stays healthy and contributes, he could get a contract in the 4-5mil range next season. Of course with his injury history, this could be his last season. It’s a gamble either way, but one that I’d be willing to make for this price.
