Will Brian Scalabrine Get an NBA Job for Next Season?

Scal tells the Boston Globe that his main goal is to play in the League, but he could also end up in Europe: “Scalabrine wants to play in the NBA next season, but offers to remain in the league aren’t overflowing for the affable veteran, prompting Scalabrine to contemplate his immediate future. ‘I don’t know what my plans are,’ he said. ‘I’m just keeping it wide open. I’ve got good offers overseas, but my goal is to play in the States for one more year and see what comes from it.’ Scalabrine, 32, played the entire second half of the season with an ailing right shoulder injured Jan. 7. He underwent surgery last month to clean out particles and remove bone spurs and remains in rehabilitation. Scalabrine struggled with his perimeter shot at times last season and it could have been attributed to the sore shoulder. He shot 32.7 percent from the 3-point line in 53 games. ‘Before I could use my right arm (to play defense), it was hard, I had to do everything with my left hand,’ he said. ‘Everybody plays with injuries. I won’t use it as an excuse.’”

  • Seth Posted: Aug.6 at 10:15 am
I still cringe knowing he made 3 mil a year in Boston… over five years. Thank God that’s over with.

    The Hawks

Someone in the NBA must like veal.

  • MikeC. Posted: Aug.6 at 11:37 am
Considering that he’s always looked kinda fat and roly-poly, how does he keep getting teams to give him money? Is he one of those “good locker room” guys? Or maybe he’s like Dunleavy Jr., teams keep him around because he grasps the offense.

  • LA Huey Posted: Aug.6 at 11:37 am
Scal is a lockdown-defender and a knockdown-shooter. Easily worth the full MLE.

  • henry Posted: Aug.6 at 11:56 am
    pacers

  • MikeC. Posted: Aug.6 at 11:56 am
@ LA Huey – Isiah isn’t running the Knicks any more. Sorry man, it’s not going to happen.

  • ab_40 Posted: Aug.6 at 12:41 pm
he’s tall.. he’s a minority in the nba.. and he can shoot. of course he get’s a shot

  • dfrance Posted: Aug.6 at 12:57 pm
@LA Huey, that was sarcasm right? The guy is a bum and I can’t believe he lasted so long. I hope he saved that money.

  • Boobr Posted: Aug.6 at 1:01 pm
    Scalabrine 1 ring | LeBron 0 rings

  • Jose Posted: Aug.6 at 1:25 pm
    Boobr Makes a good point

  • Yesse Posted: Aug.6 at 1:26 pm
    We want Scal!!!!

  • LA Huey Posted: Aug.6 at 1:34 pm
@dfrance, most definitely sarcasm. JVG’s “lock-down defender” label was the giveaway.

  • LDR4 Posted: Aug.6 at 1:41 pm
I know a 5-8 year old YMCA league he can coach.

  • Coney Islander Posted: Aug.6 at 2:16 pm

  • c_cantrell Posted: Aug.6 at 4:01 pm
boobr.. your an idiot.. scal was alright.. had bust his butt defense and could knock down the open shot.. not worth 3 mil a year tho.. would be an good pick up for a contender who didnt wanna play him much.. would be a good 9th or 10th man of the bench for a contender

  • tavoris Posted: Aug.6 at 4:48 pm
the comments in here are hilarious (and I haven’t even read them)

  • Jay Posted: Aug.6 at 4:52 pm
If Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady can’t get a job in the NBA, there is no way this scrub should.

  • BossTerry Posted: Aug.6 at 5:06 pm
Scal will find a team because if nothing else, he will shut his mouth and sit on the bench and wait for an injury (or foul-out) to occur.. Unlike Mac and AI..

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Aug.6 at 5:06 pm
To say he played injured last season is drastically overstating the played part. Come on rappaport, take off the mask!

  • ClutchPerformer Posted: Aug.6 at 6:12 pm
knowing my raptors, they will sign him *sigh*

  • Boy Sanchez Posted: Aug.6 at 6:56 pm
Bring T-Mac, AI and Scalabrine to Greece!!!!

  • rob stewart Posted: Aug.6 at 7:45 pm
Seriously I believe al NBA players are great at basketball but why do I truly believe Scalabrine is garbage? He looks totally out of shape and unathletic but is getting paid to play. He even plays in playoff and finals games. Is Scalabrine really as bad as I think he is or am I just a guy on the couch with a distorted opinion?

  • slamfan4life Posted: Aug.6 at 9:23 pm
Yes he isnt a great player But you can’t let go of your mascot!

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon Posted: Aug.6 at 10:55 pm
David Kahn- hey Scal, whats happening? Scal- I´ll take that minimum to sit on that bench David… Kahn- So…no 3 years 15mil then?!?

  • nowyouknow Posted: Aug.6 at 11:17 pm
LOL @ MikeC’s dumleavy comment. and scal would be a good pickup for a young team, he knows what it takes to win that championship..

  • Cool Dude Posted: Aug.7 at 4:53 am
You can’t fire the human victory cigar. Comon now.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Aug.7 at 7:40 am
Yeah if TMac and AI cant find a team while should the white aretha franklin get one.

  • Dave. Posted: Aug.7 at 7:47 am
    1) Scally works like a bastard. See if you can find his off-season workout routines online, they’re great. Some folks are just pudgy looking, and being a pasty ginger doesn’t help with that.
    2) Scally hits open shots out to the three – and he’s a F/C. There’s only a handful of those guys in the NBA.
    3) He can score when he’s not being guarded, which makes him much better than Hasheem Thabeet.
    4) He can defend players bigger and stronger than him at the 4 and 5.
    5) See 2, and how it means 4s and 5s guarding him have to follow him outside, which opens the floor for cutters and the S/R.
    Etc.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Aug.7 at 11:07 am
What about Allen Iverson? How come nobody has signed him? Hmmm

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon Posted: Aug.7 at 3:25 pm
@Dave; all those reasons are why the C´s are dumping him..right? gtfoh

  • Herbert Posted: Aug.7 at 6:16 pm
t-mac should team up with vince n orlando or go sign with toronto

  • Dave. Posted: Aug.8 at 12:04 am
@Lisbon: No, that in answer to why they gave him a 5 year contract and why he’s worth resigning, you idiot.

  • Lazarus Posted: Aug.8 at 12:24 am

Dave must be a ginger hahahah

  • vtrobot Posted: Aug.9 at 1:17 pm
Thanks Dave for saving me from having to do that. I’ll take Scal over a lot of other people in the league. I would have played Scal before Mikki Moore the other season. Don’t let your racism and/or doughy ginger hate blind you.

  • celticsgreen Posted: Aug.15 at 12:38 am
I think so. Say what you want, but Scal is a hard working, unselfish player.

  • George Posted: Aug.20 at 9:12 pm
    Celtics-Resign Scal!

  • jboz Posted: May.13 at 5:22 am
I played with scalabrine off and on from 9th grade thru my junior in college. He’s a strong well rounded utility guy with a great attitude. He’s always been built the way he is, that being said he’s pretty athletic for his size and build. He’s a great role playing back up with no ego. He absolutely deserves to play in the league a few more years!
