Aaron Brooks Bothered By Lack of Contract Extension

The Rockets have yet to offer Brooks an extension on his deal — and don’t sound like they’re willing to do so — something that’s making the point guard quite unhappy. From the Houston Chronicle: “Brooks had hoped his breakthrough season and status as the NBA’s Most Improved Player award winner would prompt the Rockets to offer a contract extension. Instead, he said the Rockets’ unwillingness to work on a new deal for beyond this season is ‘bothering’ him. ‘It’s kind of stressful,’ Brooks said. ‘I was hoping we maybe could get something done this summer, but we couldn’t, so I’m stuck in the position I’m in. I understand, but it’s bothering me. It’s the business of basketball. You have to take it like it is. I’m stuck with that.’ Brooks’ agent, Leon Rose, is scheduled to meet with general manager Daryl Morey today to discuss the situation, but he would not comment other to confirm the meeting … Kevin Durant is the only player from Brooks’ draft class to have received a contract extension. ‘We’re not doing extensions,’ Morey said. ‘Quite a few guys on the team are up for extensions. Just policy-wise, we’re not doing it.’”

    I would be bothered too when my back up just resigned and is making more than me.

    they probaly dont see brooks in their future…which is sad.

    The Rockets don’t have a policy on extensions, nobody does. If they had KD, he’d be re-upped by now.

    T-Money – they do. Hakeem, Barkley, Clyde never got extensions with the rockets. Besides, Houston isnt going to wanna make a deal after the season Brooks just had. How likely is it that he averages those numbers with Yao back this year? If he does, then that’s great, they won’t have overpaid him. If not, they got a good price for a 2nd/3rd tier PG.

    Probably the most underrated PG.

    I stood behind him in line at Subway once at U of O. He got two sandwiches.

    N my mind he should b a back-up pg. Not starter. He had 1 good season. Don’t c him replicating that again

    Brooks can straight up shoot the lights out from 3. He’s confident with his shot. Houston would be dumb not to extend him.

    They need to extend him unless they plan to make lowry the starter. But the only reason I see them holding out is b/c of the new CBA. Because extending him could really put them over the cap once we get a new CBA.

    EXTEND HIM!

    @Hammer
    That’s just stupid. He’s better than half the PG starters in the NBA and you want him on the bench?
