Andrew Bynum May Be Out Until November

So now do you think Drew made a mistake waiting to have surgery? He doesn’t, even though he’ll be out a long while. Marc Spears reports: “Bynum said Saturday during the Lakers’ media day that he doesn’t expect to be back playing until late November. Bynum had surgery on his right knee on July 28 and said he needs to rest his leg for another four weeks before he can even begin working out in earnest. The Lakers open their season Oct. 26 against the Houston Rockets. ’I see more towards the end of November,’ Bynum said. ‘The doctors are telling me this could be somewhere around there. There’s no exact date.’ Bynum played with pain in the knee throughout the playoffs… Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he didn’t have a problem with Bynum waiting to have surgery. Bynum also didn’t know his rehabilitation process would take so long until the surgery revealed more damage in his knee than expected. ‘You kind of got to be ready to go into surgery,’ Bynum said. ‘I don’t think that’s the thing you want to do coming off a long season and coming off a championship. I kind of took my time with it, and I’m fine.’”

Didn’t the Lakers have a big man awhile back whose motto was: “I got hurt on company time, I’ll rehab on company time”? I think Kobe had a problem with him or something. There was friction and then something bad happened.

They just dont make em’ like they used to.. Strange to think that the next generation of centers will be- Howard, Bynum,Oden,Blatche,Lopez, Hibbert,Gorat, etc.

I wish theo would just start at center and play 10, 15 mins a night and keep odom coming off the bench. i need my dude to find his niche and post the double double he needs for the 6th man of the year award!! Love him but he needs to figure his ish out on the quick.

Co sign MikeC, one might reason that because of the back 2 backs, Kobe might be willing to overlook the similarity with Shaq’s drive. But, then again you could also argue that because they’re in the running for a 3peat, with the superteam looming, Kobe could be as hungry and cold blooded as ever..

Can’t think of any1 more overrated than bynum. Yeah he is good, but fans and the media overhype him. Plus he’s injury prone

So he’s out a month during the least important part of the season. I think the Lakers can manage.

Honestly, I couldn’t care less. I’d much rather him be out November then June.

I don’t understand why these guys seem to wait so long. Get your body taken care of as soon as possible to allow ample time to heal without pressure of coming back to early or missing too many games or not being able to practice with team etc. However, in Bynum’s case maybe being out the beginning of the season will help him be healthy during the playoffs when he’s needed most.
