D-Will to Al Jefferson: ‘I’m Going to Make You an All-Star’

Deron Williams made a promise to his new big man, and Al Jefferson tells the Salt Lake Tribune that he bought into it immediately: “D Williams is Batman. He’s Batman. He’s the captain. He’s the guy, you know. And I’m Robin. So I’m willing to do whatever. I’m not worried about jelling with him. I’m going to adjust to him. Whatever he needs me to do is going to be done. Because the first thing he said to me when I talked to him is, ‘I’m going to make you an All-Star.’ And when he said that to me, I believed him. He wasn’t just talking. He wasn’t just saying it because it sounded good. He really means that. And I’m not going to do nothing to mess that up. Whatever he wants me to do. I know he told me one thing, he was joking. He said I don’t really dunk a lot in the games. And so [he said], ‘If I throw you a sweet pass, you’re going to have to dunk it.’ And if he wants me to start dunking, I’ll dunk it.”

WOW!!!! From one non-allstar to another… thats quite a statement…. D-Will will be an allstar this year I don’t know about making AL into one…. That’s a halfcourt shot….

  • RoG23 Posted: Sep.27 at 11:12 am
STAT and “possibly” Melo out of the west. I could see it happening.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Sep.27 at 11:14 am
DWill made him an offer he can’t refuse.

  • niQ Posted: Sep.27 at 11:16 am
I had a feeling D.Will was going to bounce after Boozer left, but if this duo can make it happen then I’ll def vote for Al J.

  • 2Tones Posted: Sep.27 at 11:26 am
WTF! Al Jefferson’s interest perks up to 110% after hearing D-Will could make him an All Star. What about making it deep thru the playoffs?!?! Shouldn’t his selfish ass be more pumped about that!?!?! When KG left Minny he was focused on Rings not becoming an allstar but this mudda f…. here SMH enough said about this bum!

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Sep.27 at 11:30 am
DWill, All Star or not, makes an incredibly strong case as best PG in the league. Matter of fact, I’ll put him there right now. Ding.

  • Celtics fan Posted: Sep.27 at 11:31 am
Dwill not making the all star team..Guards: KOBE,Chris Paul,Steve Nash, and Russell Westbrook.

  • Celtics fan Posted: Sep.27 at 11:31 am
Dwill not making the all star team again..Guards: KOBE,Chris Paul,Steve Nash, and Russell Westbrook.

  • Groves Posted: Sep.27 at 11:44 am
he isn’t really any worse than CP3, but i still wouldn’t put him in my favourite point guards group, and therefore in the allstar game

  • J.C. Posted: Sep.27 at 11:46 am
Is he just subtly saying that Boozer only made the All Star Team because of him?

  • cramzy Posted: Sep.27 at 11:51 am
if healthy and I stress IF HEALTHY, there’s is no way Deron Williams and his 20ppg & 10 ast get left off the all-star team.

  • cramzy Posted: Sep.27 at 11:53 am
    *take out the is.. lol

  • LA Huey Posted: Sep.27 at 12:01 pm
D-Will will get there. The only guards that are guaranteed a spot (barring injury) are Kobe, Nash, and CP3. Forward seems possible with STAT and Boozer out East and Melo and Randolph possibly giving up their spots.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Sep.27 at 12:09 pm
CP is the BEST point in the league, hands down.

  • Josh M Posted: Sep.27 at 12:10 pm
Jerry Sloan is Alfred and Okur is Catwoman

  • Moose Posted: Sep.27 at 12:32 pm
Al Jefferson finally got teamed up with someone who’s actually BETTER than him. He’s no leader, and that’s why he didn’t do well in Minny, but he’s a great player, so if he is LED, then some really crazy stuff can happen on the Jazz.

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.27 at 12:47 pm
I believe it. Jefferson is an underrated player. Deron is an all-time point. This, to me, seems obvious.

  • arjae828 Posted: Sep.27 at 1:09 pm
dwill = best point. don’t see westbrook making the all star team ahead of him. not yet anyway.

  • EJ Posted: Sep.27 at 1:11 pm
It’s tough being an all star playing in Utah.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Sep.27 at 1:26 pm
I think nashs days as guaranteed allstar are over. He might make it, but it wont be over deron and chris

  • Clay Posted: Sep.27 at 1:40 pm
Deron Williams promises Al Jefferson something he can’t even make himself? It’s not that Williams isn’t an all-star, but fan voting is pathetic. Nothing can be guaranteed with that system for all-star selection.

  • Royal Posted: Sep.27 at 1:47 pm
D will is an all star and im pretty sure he made it last year in his home state of texas.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Sep.27 at 1:53 pm
IAMORANGE4EVER to D-Will: Good luck with that.

  • PapaBearATL Posted: Sep.27 at 2:08 pm
Whatever it takes to motivate an individual! Don’t read to much into it. Should he welcome him by saying ‘We Suck and We’re only gonna get worse’? Any athlete that doesn’t feel like he’s the best at what he does or striving to be the best, should quit. Stop the hate!

  • Dyce Posted: Sep.27 at 2:33 pm
You’re sniffing Kool-aid if you think westbrook is better than D-will.

  • nikehead23 Posted: Sep.27 at 2:40 pm
    very possible , boozer wasn’t that great..sorry boozers’ buddy’s..

  • nikehead23 Posted: Sep.27 at 2:40 pm

  • Red Posted: Sep.27 at 3:04 pm
    2 words, Derrick Rose.

  • vtrobot Posted: Sep.27 at 3:44 pm
d will > russell. stop with the ASG fan voting.

  • J_Paco Posted: Sep.27 at 3:46 pm
Wasn’t D-Will an all-star last season and didn’t he have the best season of his career? He’ll easily make the all-star team behind CP3 barring injury. Being in a winning program and hopefully being 100% healthy will help Big Al in making the all-star. Boozer, Stoudemire and (possibly) Anthony being gone will also making things easier for the younger forwards out West.

  • zee! Posted: Sep.27 at 4:00 pm
D-Will to Al Jeff’s knee: “Unless you give out”…..

  • NicktheQuick Posted: Sep.27 at 4:07 pm
Mo Williams and Rondo would like a word with those who think that CP3 is best point in the league.

  • SpaceJam Posted: Sep.27 at 4:38 pm
Amen J_Paco. D Will was an all-star last year. He’s the 2nd best pg in the world behind CP3. But everybody hoped on his train when CP3 went down. Al Jefferson is gonna make the all-star team b/c he’ll put up 20 and 10 on a playoff team instead of one of the perennial bottom feeders. Plus Boozer and Stoudemire are gone.

  • Loaf Posted: Sep.27 at 4:54 pm
    excuse me? Mo williams?????????

  • JL Posted: Sep.27 at 5:22 pm
mo and rondo? one guy inferior in every way and the other with major holes in his game.

  • ai83 Posted: Sep.27 at 5:36 pm
BIG IS BETTER THAN THE BOOZER,ALREADY HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN ALL STAR

  • Drew Posted: Sep.27 at 5:54 pm
D-Will is an All-Star player even without the actual title.

  • Clement Posted: Sep.27 at 6:06 pm
Why do I see all these comments about D-Will not being an actual All-Star?? He was in the ASG last season, and arguably should’ve been an all-star at least two years before that. He had a career season last year, and right now, he’s arguably the top PG in the league, and the only other player who could possibly lay a claim to that title is CP3. @2Tones when KG left Minny he was already a perennial all-star…he didn’t have to worry about that. And I don’t get the hate towards Al J. The dude is already a legit all-star caliber player given the numbers he’s been putting up.

  • Kid Canada Posted: Sep.27 at 6:10 pm
hey d-will how about this guy is an allstar without u

  • bashmo Posted: Sep.27 at 6:17 pm
lmao Mo Williams? All that dude can do is shoot he does not have the ball handling, i.q, passing ability or defensive ability that CP3 possesses. Best PG in the game, Chris Paul on this note, D-Will sayin sumthin like that after being an allstar for the first time this season is a pretty big thing. Well see how this turns out.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.27 at 7:40 pm
Heck YES! The Jazz are quickly becoming one of my favorite teams. Al Jefferson and Deron Williams are going to be a great duo. Don’t sleep on Big Al.

  • anony mous Posted: Sep.27 at 8:08 pm
Until you get injured, you big baby… Anyone?

  • anony mous Posted: Sep.27 at 8:21 pm
    http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2009/09/carlos-boozer-im-the-starter/ Found it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.27 at 8:36 pm
^ LOL, I remember that. But that doesn’t apply to Al Jeff.

  • Jono Posted: Sep.27 at 8:54 pm
All-Star, All-NBA teams, votes blah blah blah…you my overweight overrated friend, are suffering my the 19 yr old Kobe syndrome (me me me me me me). At least Kobe eventually won 3 titles at his youth while LeBron was actualyl passing the ball. Rot in salt lake city fat al.

  • dirty frank Posted: Sep.27 at 9:48 pm
    ^^wtf?^^

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.27 at 10:08 pm
    ^ This.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Sep.27 at 10:21 pm
D-Will to Mehmet Okur’s achilles tendon: “Stay strong.”

  • Noel Posted: Sep.28 at 12:25 am
I think he was saying that Mo Williams also thinks Rondo is the best pg in the league

  • Zabba Posted: Sep.28 at 3:32 am
DWill > Russell > Bill Russel

  • Klav Posted: Sep.28 at 5:01 am
that boozer thread was really classic.

  • Lazarus Posted: Sep.28 at 5:41 am
cant he make himself an allstar? that would be more my aim. wow at him calling himself robin…. come on man, dont just accept you are a biiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Jones Posted: Sep.28 at 6:21 am
Make no mistake, Boozer ain’t an all-star, and when his production and efficiency drops off this year because he hasn’t got a PG like D-Will feeding him dunks and open jumpers, everyone will see that. No disrespect to Rose, but he still hasn’t got that rock-solid jumpshot, and he’s a SG playing the point. What’s his assist average? Four, five a game? With all the attention D-Will gets, Al Jefferson might well end up an all-star. Deron is one of those guys who can make even the likes of skinny center Okur and undersized Boozer all-stars.

  • rikson Posted: Sep.28 at 6:48 am
Big Al should have been an allstar already….

  • ClydeSays Posted: Sep.28 at 8:59 am
They could make a great combo. Al lags on D though, so that will be interesting to see. Sloan does not tolerate missed assignments, something Big Al tend to do… We’ll see.

  • Spades21 Posted: Sep.28 at 6:19 pm
Chris Paul busted up his knee. Any knee injury= death of career

  • MoMo Posted: Sep.29 at 5:12 pm
“Mo Williams and Rondo would like a word with those who think that CP3 is best point in the league.” Mo Williams???????? …………… I am sorry I just fainted.

  • Seth Posted: Oct.1 at 2:26 pm
I think Big All will do just fine in Utah. Having Deron Williams and better players around him can only make him better really. He’ll prob go for 15 & 8 this season, something like that.

  • monkeyball Posted: Oct.2 at 10:01 am
Al Jefferson is definitely an improvement over Carlos Boozer.

  • KB8toSG8 Posted: Oct.10 at 8:50 am
A few things. D-Will is better than every other PG out there except CP3, who is a bit more talented but a lot less durable. Rondo isn’t even close in the discussion. He’s a great defender, the best pickpocketer in the L :P and has the unique ability of grabbing rebounds ( for a PG, that’s unique) but doesn’t even have a good offense other than his drive. Hell, if you defender sags off you in the Finals when you’re on the perimeter, you know you suck as a shooter. Rose is nowhere close as well. And not selecting D-Will along with CP3 is a travesty to the All-Star game.

what happenened to williams promise? he ran off like a coward. go lakers!
