Former NBAer Rumeal Robinson Guilty of Fraud

The AP reports on the former hoops star’s fall from grace: “Rumeal Robinson, who led Michigan to the NCAA men’s basketball championship in 1989 and later played in the NBA, was convicted in federal court Wednesday of borrowing more than $700,000 for a sham business deal and then spending the money on a condominium, expensive furniture and cars. A jury found Robinson guilty of 11 counts, including bank bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine on each count. A date for sentencing hasn’t been set. Among a lengthy list of accusations by prosecutors was one accusing Robinson of scheming to sell his mother’s home in Cambridge, Mass., without her knowledge.”

What is he going to do with the rest of his life?

Fraud is one thing, but scheming to sell your Mom’s home without her knowledge? That’s cold.

Rumeal got a raw deal. Signed, Devil’s Advocate

he also made a fraudulent attempt to be an NBA point guard.. the only thing i remember from him.. is a baseline drive.. went up for a dunk and got hung… i really can’t remember anything else he’s done in the L..

Man. I was just reading bout this story couple days ago. This cat made a lil over $5mill over the course of his career and didn’t know how 2 take care of it. Apparently rumeal declared bankruptcy and had 2 give up a maserati, some ducatis,a benzo,a beamer and an m16 fully automatic. Kinda sad 2 hear bout these stories bout athletes that I grew up watching. I liked rumeal especially w/the blazers. Never lived up 2 his potential tho

One of my college teammates used to kick it with Rumeal. He said Rumeal was dead broke and would eat KFC out of a dumpster even though he was still driving/living in a beamer. He said Rumeal tried to hold on to that beamer as it was the last thing he had to mae him feel famous

I remember watching this kid in college and thinking he was a lock to have a 10 yr successful carrer in the league.

Why do athletes think that millons of dollars last forever. What kind of reasoning would make an average nba player buy 3 luxurious cars, expensive condo, and furniture that would make Marie Antoinette jealous. Gotta make that money last for ever like Keith Sweat.

I played against/with him during the high school years and feel for him a lil’ bit. People thought I was crazy when I said he was a product of a great political system that propelled him to where he landed. (Michigan w/ G. Rice & others then the NBA) A persons character is a persons character even after they make a bit of change. Guys need to actually take advantage of that educational opportunity while playing in college so that they can hold onto or build upon what they might get financially. Sad….
