Hatred for LeBron James, Now in Measurable Form

The Q Scores company has crunched the numbers, and yup, nearly everyone hates LeBron now (though not as much as they hate Kobe! So there’s that …) CNBC reports: “Following James’ move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat, and the way he announced it in the ESPN hour-show dubbed ‘The Decision,’ the general population has changed its opinion of the man nicknamed King. In January 2010, The Q Scores Company took a poll of the general population and found that 24 percent of people thought of James in a positive light, compared to a 22 percent negative opinion. Henry Schafer, executive vice president of the company, told CNBC that the average sports personality has a 15 percent positive score and a 24 percent negative score. ‘LeBron’s positive score at that time was the highest we had ever seen it,’ Schafer said … LeBron’s Q Score today? Schafer says that now only 14 percent of the general population see him as a positive figure, a 41.6 percent drop, while 39 percent view him in a negative light, a 77 percent decline. In fact, LeBron is now the sixth most disliked sports personality, according to The Q Score Company, behind Michael Vick, Tiger Woods, Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Kobe Bryant.”

love you, hate you, love you again

  • Jdubbs

This will change after a couple of rings in Miami. Lebron is still a top 3 player in the NBA with skills not seen since Magic.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

That’s a good list to be on, actually.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And I wonder about the demographics of the people polled.

  • Martey

Lebron = 200 comments. Gentlemen start your engines.

  • JTaylor21

The funny thing is that he DIDN’T even commit a crime.

lebron tops the most burned jersey list and he’s still behind kobe for most hated? i dunno about these Q scores.

    KOBE > LEBRON > MJ

  • oinestep

What no ben rothlisberger and look at the race of all those mentioned……….hmmmm I wonder why?

  • Sizzle

Funny, as soon as he wins a few rings/averages a triple double everyone will love him again. Look at Vick, last year fans hated the signing of him, now they want him as their starter QB. Look at Tiger (granted he hasn’t won) but when he finished 4th in that one Tourny most of the personal ish stopped. The cure to everything is winning although being hated is not bad for business. Look at the most controversial people in sports/the world. These people often have everyone’s attention (regardless what their doing). The world watched LeBron before, now the spotlight is ten fold. For as many people that want to watch him to WIN even more people will watch to see him LOSE. Either way he is being watched. These ratings are a joke.

This sucks because Ive always hated Lebron…from the first day he played in the NBA…but now it seem like I just joined this “hate” bandwagon…i mean, i used to be one of the few who hated him…and was able to go against the majority…now i am the majority…i seem like one of the wishy-washy, non-basketball washing bums…damn…haha…ive got an predicament

  • http://shaq_attaq@msn.com kevinWILLIS

why r all the hated sports stars black???America needs 2 fix this!!!

  • JTaylor21

@Jukai, a man your age shouldn’t be experimenting with that Bolivian marching powder.

Is there enough Miami Heat stories for the day yet? I’m not hating, oh f*ck it call it hating if you want to, I’m just saying every little thing Miami Heat-related doesn’t need to be posted on here.

T.O. and Ocho have there own shows, Philly loves Vick now, and Kobe is shooting for a 2nd three peat. Hate equals success?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Jealous much, Enigmatic? For the last two seasons, all we saw were Laker stories, so quit you’re whining, hater.

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^JTaylor21..
    yeah lol thats pretty ironic

  • Sofe

When you look at it before the “decision” only 46% of people had an opinion on lebron. Now 53% of people do. This has to be good from a publicity standpoint saying that lebron is more popular than ever. Popularity doesnt always mean your liked but now he is more well known to the masses. With a couple of rings in the future more people will jump on the lebron bandwagon and overall it could be a very big positive. Agree/Disagree?

Apparently the only thing hated more than a black man with money is a talented, successful confident black man with money!

What America demands in her black champions is a brilliant, powerful body and a dull, bestial mind. -Eldridge Cleaver

    thank you, papabear.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@ Eboy – Jealous of what? Your one lonely championship banner compared to our six? But come on, you gotta admit we don’t need to know every little thing Heat-related, just like we don’t or didn’t need to know every little thing Lakers-related. Like I give a sh*t about Khloe Kardashian. And you’re so quick to call others a hater but doesn’t the fact you hate the Lakers make you a hater as well? And yeah, I’ll be a hater. I’m a Bulls fan, so of course I’ma hate all the other 29 teams.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

This isn’t going to happen, is it?

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

@KevinWillis, because 90% of the pro athletes are black. Do the math.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

PapaBear dropping some knowledge with the Eldridge Cleaver quote! Soul on Ice!

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Ninety-percent of pro athletes are black? In all sports? No way, NO WAY is that accurate. The highest I’d believe for all US pro sports would be…60%? Even that sounds too high…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Enigmatic…..you had one player (who I rooted for like no other)that made the Bulls relevant for a decade and a half. If Michael had played anywhere else, there is a distinct possibility that they could make the same claim at large ring counts if he had played on their squad as well.

  • http://www.dontevenreply.com total scrotal implosion

I bet this poll was conducted by interviewing upper middle class white guys who watch pti every day.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Eboy – I can’t argue with that. Yes, we got lucky we got Jordan, and any team that had him would’ve produced mass championships. I’m in no way hating on the Heat because they have LeBron, Wade and Bosh now. I’m upset with Slam for putting up what I believe are non-stories. Though this particular one seemed to spark a debate on here, so I’m actually glad they posted this now.

  • chrisneww

    Great player, also amazingly handsome..

  • JTaylor21

Or it was conducted by interviewing Ku Klux Klan members who wank it to Adolf Hitler every day.

@chrisneww, Please tell me that you’re NOT a guy, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Jukai, CHILD PLEASE, you’ve being in there longer than that evil monkey in chris griffin’s closet.

  • http://bulls.com C-Lo_The_Great

    @Eboy
thats a weak arguement saying the Bulls got lucky with Jordan Well if thats the case the Heat got Lucky in drafting Wade where would that title be if they hadnt drafted him whats done is done you cant change the past bulls have 6 tittles heat have 1 and heat will probably have the next few titles after this year

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    No sh*t.

  • http://www.manutd.com t-money

ppl have to be careful and make a distinction between internet popularity (bloggers, commenters, analyst) and popularity in the real world. lebron still moves products like no one else in the NBA and his new jersey is selling like hotcakes everywhere outside of ohio. germans don’t care that he turned his back on cleveland. chinese neither. heck, vince thomas was tweeting that he was seeing bron jerseys everywhere in atlanta.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

I wonder what the timing of this was and how Big Ben didn’t end up on the list. Maybe because he never reached the kind of ‘superstar’ status of anybody else on the list or he just isn’t that ‘flashy’. Considering that all the guys on this list are black (granted tiger = 50%), part of me wants to call the list racist. But on the other hand, based on the same research team and methods, Kobe, LeBron and Tiger use to be among the most popular and each earned millions because of it. I can’t ‘blame’ their fall on anybody elses behavior except for their own.

  • yulenevano

Imagine for a second what the world would be like if wade county and your/our highness traded draft positions upon entering the league…just a random thought/dream/nightmare

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Given the other names on the list, it should really be “Hatred of Lebron by white people now in measurable form.”
    Just to be accurate.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Brion
Tell the truth, you just pulled that stat out out of the crack of your anus, right?
Seriously, have you watched baseball, hockey, golf, tennis or Nascar lately?
    No, seriously, have you?
This is why America is the way it is, too many folks create their own realities to justify their own biases.

  • Blackphantom

I understand this list. @The Nupe Big Ben probably isn’t on the list because, well no he isn’t the typical superstar QB, but still he was innocent in the first place. But no NFL right now, this isn’t the site for it.

  • http://dsjkfl.com Jukai

Allenp: Nascar drivers are professional athletes? Ehhhhhh…
