Jason Richardson Playing for a New Contract

J-Rich tells the AZ Republic that he’s excited to show off everything he’s worked on this summer, in the hopes of landing himself a new deal (be it in Phoenix or elsewhere): “Jason Richardson and the Suns need the same thing – a big season from him. Phoenix needs his scoring with Amar’e Stoudemire gone, and Richardson needs to play well and win to set up his next contract. He will be paid $14.4 million this season and said there has been preliminary talks about an extension that could keep him from becoming a free agent next summer. ‘I feel like I’m going to college,’ Richardson said. ‘I’ve got to pick a decision. It’s going to be fun. I’m not even worried about it. What happens, happens. If I get an extension here, I would love to be here and maybe finish my career here. It’s a business. You never know. There’s no pressure on me to go out and perform just because it’s my contract year. I’m always a firm believer that if you work hard, things will come out your way … ‘I’m not necessarily motivated (by a contract year) but I know what’s at stake,’ he said. ‘I know I put in a lot of work this summer. I really prepared myself. I know this is probably my last big chance to get a contract. I’m getting up there. I’m going to be 30 in January.’”

So would he be PHX leading scorer now that Amare’s gone? I don’t know why but I keep forgetting Richardson is on PHX.

the things he worked on this summer? did those involve jumping off of one leg and using his left hand?

He doesnt need to jump off one leg. Jrich will put up 22ppg, unless hedo and others chuck more than they should

Sad to see him make such comment… He may be talking about his love for the game and not business.

Very entertaining player to watch, sick athleticism and his 3 is solid. Remember first hearing about him in Slam way back in the day when he was a high schooler in Saginaw, Michigan. As much as I love J-Rich I still can’t get over the fact that he literally cost Phoenix game 5 of the conference finals (and probably the series as a whole) by not boxing out Artest when he hit that putback. Hopefully, box out and defense were prioritized in his summer regime. Still hoping he averages 25 next year though, fuck Hideous Turkoglu.

I dont mind that he talks about it in business terms. He understands that he’s been part of a solid and ‘positive-action’ team; he also understands that if PHX decide to embark on a “youth movement” then he won’t feel altogether put out. I’m wondering if we might see the demise of Steve Nash this season. Particularly of they bring in guys like Hedo and Childress, thus taking the ball out of Nashs hands. Assists drop. PPG drop all of a sudden that old crusty guy with the bad back while have arrived…..
the day he retires will be a sad day for me. :C(

Hedo ALWAYS chucks more than he should. Have fun, Phoenix fans!
