Kendrick Perkins on Game 7, Playing Time

The eternally candid Perk opens up to the Boston Globe about what could’ve been had he played in the final game of the title round, and what he expects once he’s healthy enough to ball again next season: “Perkins is expected to be out for at least several more months after tearing ligaments in his knee during Game 6 of this year’s NBA Finals. The injury kept Perkins out of Game 7 against the Lakers, a game in which the Celtics were severely out-rebounded. ‘If I would have played we would have won for sure,’ said Perkins, sounding more assured than cocky. ‘By double-figures.’ Perkins will have to wait a while to make an impact this season. He was asked about whether or not he was worried that the newly-acquired O’Neals — Shaquille and Jermaine — might take his job. ‘I really don’t want to answer this question because I really dont want to start nothing,’ said Perkins. ‘My spot’s not up for grabs. When I come back I will be getting my spot, and everybody else just has to adjust to me.’”

    PERK IS A BEAST

  • RobbieJay

    Perk thinks he’s big meech…larry hoover…

  • vtrobot

should be an interesting year for the C’s. provided he’s healthy, perk shouldn’t worry about not having his starting spot when he comes back. JO and shaquille don’t have enough gas left in the tank to handle starting. gasol was a surprising beast in that game 7. who knows what would have happened if …

  • t-sizzle

with perk in the lineup, do you really think the C’s would have lost the most important game of their season? i dont think so

  • t-sizzle

@vtrobot gasol dominated cuz there was no one strong enough to stop him. perk puts players like that out of their comfort zone once he bumps them a bit and plays his physical and imposing style. in any case, at least the rebound disparity would have been fixed

  • The Fresh Prince of Nsam

This is at least the 3rd article I read this summer about the same stuff… Less than a month 2 go…

  • T-Money

doc and danny don’t agree. they said his spot is very much up for grabs and offered him no guarantee to start when he comes back.

  • Fat Lever

He’s the type of dude that you hate when he’s not on your team, but would love to have on your squad. Dude knows his role, accepts it, and has refined it.

Well, that’s settled. The Celtics would have won if Perkins played. Great, so the Lakers can give up their title now … what, the Lakers don’t have to give the trophy back? But, but, Perk said they would have won by double figures! … What do you mean that’s not how it works? Are you calling him a liar? PERK IS A BEAST!

  • vtrobot

t-sizzle: i hear you. i guess i shouldn’t have said that it was a surprise that pau was a beast since that was likely with perk out. nobody was keeping gasol off the glass that game. i wanted the C’s to win as much as anybody and was happy to have people sleeping on them the whole year. i just think it’s silly when people say that something DEFINITELY would have happened. maybe perk would have had a sh*tty game and it wouldn’t have even been as close as it was. no one will ever know. being a starter and having to sit because of injury for a finals game 7 is messed up tho. c’s win it this year. yes, they’re old and slow but they’re smart, driven and HUGE. oct 26th can’t come soon enough.

  • Ali

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda…Let game 7 go Celts. How long are they going to drag out him getting hurt. Get ready for the new season big fella and let it go. And BTW your no where near the caliber player of Jermaine or Shaq, even in their old age! Trust!

  • Bruno

    perk is a comedian hahaha

  • EJ

F**k you Perk, you would’ve lost anyway. With Bynum and Kobe 100% for the whole series I could say we would’ve swept them for sure, same thing in 2008.

  • unrel

not sure why he’s still talking about game 7… i never understood why players/people say stuff like that.. so he’s saying if he was there.. they would have won by double digits.. well.. his TEAM was up by double digits and lost.. so.. what’s he saying about his squad?.. and his back up bigs?.. they ain’t ish without him?.. good work, perk.. and i like the candy man looking dude..

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Yep, they probably would have won game 7 if he was there. But, he wasn’t and they didn’t, so time to start focusing on this coming season. If either O’neil is playing well, then it will be interesting to see what happens when Perk comes back. Nobody should lose their spot due to injury, but Doc won’t want to change team chemistry etc if it’s really working at that point in the season. As long as everyone is healthy for playoffs, they’ll still be a force to wreckon with.

i love it when people say they don’t want to do things and then do exactly that thing after their next breath.

  • http://air-tsinelas.blogspot.com Roy

    Go Celtics! :D

  • the downtown brown clown

perk = the sheed wallace… hahahaha! without the reliable jumpshot. hahahaha!

  • the downtown brown clown

    *the new sheed

  • Heals

The World could use a few more Perks…

  • Javy

How about wining the other games MR. Perk, so that you never had gotten to that point of not playing on game 7!!!!
@Chiqo: I agree, I don’t want to start anything but “My spot is not for grabs”…..ummmm
This team already melting!!! I love it.

  • Javy

And now I read Baby Davis is unhappy with role!!!!
Damn, the season has not even started and they’re already complaining!!!!
    Ouchhhh!!!

  • NicktheQuick

All this talk of if this happened or if that happened is pointless. If this is true, then if the New Jersey Nets played hard enough last year they could have won the championship too. If Eddy Curry worked out hard enough and gave up food, he’d be a HOF center. If that Greek dude “giannis bourriasis” tried hard enough, he would be so likeable, not!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

I knew glen davis would start crying, after all, that is what he does

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

This is dumb. Yeah, you might have won if you were healthy, but the Lakers might have won in 2008 if Bynum was healthy. Enjoy your ring, dbag.

  • CONEY ISLANDER

IM SORRY BUT HE’S RIGHT, CHANCE WAS ON THE LAKERS SIDE WHEN HE WENT DOWN.

  • the nerve

    i’ll bodyslam dat kat

  • roman

What could he have done to make the game any different. Nothing- I’m sorry but the Lakers won get over already!!!!!!!

  • Remo Williams

    co-sign Jackie Moon!

  • juliusj14

if he would have played, they would have not received the offensive boost from Rasheed Wallace that helped them get a double digit lead in the first place. Has anyone considered the fact that they might have never gotten a lead if he would have played??? He boosts the teams rebounding and defense, but he is also a liability on offense and can be left wide open, which increases defense pressure on his teammates. does he realize that his game has pros and cons just like every other role player. role players are not normally well-rounded, they always have strengths and weaknesses. his impact could have been either positive or negative, its basically a wash and pointless to speculate. its like the time machine concept, if you change one little thing, than everything else will change as well and its impossible to predict the impact of the change.

  • JC

The championship’s only legit and fair if a healthy Celtics team played an injury-decimated Lakers team! Don’t you get how it works?

  • unrel

If kobe was 100% he would have finished off that Colorado girl too

  • Kent Kanada

yeah well perk and the celts lost. it happened. done. if your good enough you’ll be there next year coming out on top. perk will crumble before playoffs.

  • BostonBaller

talk is just talk and I’m sure Perk didn’t bring up the subject of game 7 himself. He answered what he felt and when players do that they get smacked, if they give the fluff answers they get called out on it. We should just shut it up and wait for the games. Every team holds onto that game 7 loss too long EVERY team…

  • KoBynum716

LMAO “by double figures”. too bad b/c he was injured was the only reason rasheed wallace saw all those minutes to hit those jumpers in the 3rd. with perk, the Lakers would probably have won by double figures. this guys an offensively retarded clown.

  • mike

the lakers didn’t have trevor ariza or bynum in 08. plus how many future hall of famers does boston need to win ONE game without him? bynum only had 2 points and six rebounds in game 7. maybe boston would have won if ray allen hadn’t been cold as ice
