Kobe Leads Top Selling Jerseys in China

It’s Kobe’s fourth consecutive season leading jersey sales in China. KD and DWill make the top 10 for the first time. Derrick Rose also leaped into the top five. DWade, Melo and Yao Ming have all fallen off China’s top-10 map.

What’s with the smileys for the 8s?

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com zee!

China recognizes a winner. Shout-outs to China. Shout out to AI being #8 on the list despite doing nothing last season.

    That’s ’cause DWill’s cool, Jer.

  • Red

Idk why you don’t think Dwight is cool :(

Couldn’t you say T-Mac’s No. 4 was more egregious, Zee?

AI was on the list for 08-09. He was still playing major minutes then. Also, I guess everyone there already bought their Yao jerseys.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

And shouts to Ray Allen for cracking a top 10 jersey list after 15 seasons.

  • JTaylor21

Tell the chinese to open up their eyes some more (no racism intended; my friend’s chinese).

  • Kadavour

lol @ the “8″-”)” smiley face effect

On a related note, Kobe jumped to No. 1 when he changed numbers. Will LeBron’s jersey change boost him to No. 1?

  • Love4Humanity

Let’s see how long it takes before this becomes a Kobe/LeBron argument.

  • Aaron

    Kobe a top-seller? Getouttaheeeeere.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

I think LeBrons jersey sales will go up but will be tempered somewhat due to him playing with other stars (Dwade, Bosh) cause, if you are a heat fan…whose jersey do you buy?

  • JTaylor21

@Albert it’s easy the BEST player; Bron, also shouldn’t heat fans already have DWade’s jersey.

  • unrel

this has nothing to do with talent.. so who cares.. this is all about marketing.. Kobe rocks an asia tour every year… it’s crazy that yao isn’t up there anymore.. i’m sure it’s because all of china is required to have his jersey.. but damn.. he needs to change his number and get back on that list..

what i want to see is what Nike is gonna do about the LBJ 23 logo on all LeBum shoes

  • Robb

LeBum shoes are horrible. They look like orthopedic shoes. Bulky as f***.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Meh – I only bought three jerseys my whole life. MJ Bulls jersey, of course, Penny Hardaway Magic jersey cause he was THAT DUDE in the mid-90′s, and a Derrick Rose jersey that I bought just so he could autograph for me in one of his public signing appearances in Chicago.

  • Blackphantom

Not surprising, China loves the NBA, especially the NBA’s best player

uh oh carmelo is in trouble. he better not leave the nuggets!

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Who else did yall expect Yao Ming.

  • Ronald

About the whole Lebron James jersey thing; it will probably propel to No.1 next season. But not merely because of number change but because the Miami Jersey colours are a big hit in the area. Everyone loves the Miami white jersey (which is amazingly well designed).

  • dfortruth

Go Kobe. They brought the best, not a fake media made product.

  • The Philosopher

The world still realizes what is indeed truthful reality, friends. That is, that as great as Kobe Bryant is, and he is great, The King is just simply and plainly better. It is quite simple to adhere to AND understand when broken down.
We all can celebrate Kobe wanting to do certain things to enhance his legacy… and try to be like Michael Jordan. I mean, that’s admirable.
But again, with The King, it is an ENTIRELY different animal. A different entity. What he is doing is bigger than basketball, frankly.

  • The Philosopher

As I’ve stated previously on these threads, this guy LeBron…
Who in The History of The Game, and arguably THE sports landscape has had this kind of mass appeal, and when I say this, it goes like this:
When in History can one remember when politicians with prestige, world leaders wooing AND coddling to an athlete on live television dancing AND singing his praises to the Masses?
Has this ever transpired in The History of Sports?

  • The Philosopher

    Never.
    Not EVEN Tiger Woods.
    Woods…
If this kid ever wins a title, it will be the end of discussion for The Ages.
Period. Then it will HAVE to go back to “well, he isn’t loved like Mamba…”
And IN reality, all he needs is a SINGLE title, as opposed to the contrary.

  • Robb

@The Philosopher wait until Lebron’s athleticism leaves him, let’s see how he adjusts, then we’ll see how good he truly is.

  • The Philosopher

Some presidents of countries do not receive the attention and wondering, coverage, exposure, etc.
In all actuality, The King was, AND is THE only one WHO can pull off such a stunt like “The Decision”.
Who else can pull that off?
The night The King was drafted Kobe came up declaring certain things on a night that did not even belong to him.
In my opinion, if Kobe had the opportunity, he would have done something like the LeBron stunt.
    I could be wrong.

  • The Philosopher

LeBron’s skill set can hold him as long as he stays healthy.
And, so far, he’s been a stallion.
He’s a great passer in the end. That alone will hold him as he gets away from the perimeter as he ages and gains weight.

  • http://slamonline.com J Dizzle

Philosopher, will the KING finally win a ring now that he’s in Miami? I mean, with a name like the KING it’s kinda odd that he has 0 rings after all his years in the NBA. So far he hasn’t lived up to his name, OR your hype.

  • http://slamonline.com J Dizzle

And no, one title this late in his career (not to mention with the Big 3) will not make him anywhere near Kobe’s level of greatness. Maybe if he gets 3 or 4 you can start comparing.

  • The Philosopher

Well, I guess it depends on how on looks at things.
Michael didn’t win until he was 28.
    The King still has time.
Karl Malone has never won, and he is highly regarded. Barkley, Wilkins, Ewing.
Kobe won early, but time has a way of working itself out, no?
Give it time, brethren. All he needs is one ring.
    That’s all. One ring.

  • The Philosopher

    I’ll say it like this:
Remember when The King was playing in the McDonald’s All American game?
He was surrounded by his then peers.
He stood out. He was brilliant.
Throwing alley oops from nearly 2/3 court at 6’8″ in high school.
He’s never had that surrounding of peers in The League until now.
We are going to see some special basketball for years to come barring anything crazy.

  • http://www.twitter.com/jtrain73 Jono

    @Philisopher

Part of me is really worried that something will happen to LeBron this season. Like a ligament tear or someone awfully random. I’m a Nuggs fan but I have no problem admitting I’m a huge leBron fan too and I’d love it if you were right!

  • http://www.twitter.com/jtrain73 Jono

I expect Durant to hit the top 2 once they change up those pre-school uniforms.

  • The Philosopher

Yeah, I hope nothing happens, either.
For, this really seems too good to be true.
But, we have to stay positive.

  • http://slamonline.com J Dizzle

    5 > 1. I’m sure a philosopher would understand.

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

Wonder how the sales of LBJ’s Miami Jersey will fair at the end of the year.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Steve Nash jerseys have dropped off…. I think it’s that funny ‘shoulder cut’ they have…

  • Lan

    All players on playoff teams.

  • http://www.acb.com A l a n

These chinese people tend to like short guys, like AI and Rose. And that’s because they are short themselves. That’s why Yao is not such a big superstar there. Altough I think that’s sad for him. I don’t get liking a player just because he’s short… or tall fot that matter… As for me, in Spain we will always have Pau #1.

  • EJ

If Lebron wins a ring with the Heat, all those Lebron loving Kobe haters have to give him less credit just like they do with Kobe on his first 3peat. I will give him all the credit, but if he won in Cleveland he would be considered a better player than if he wins in Miami.

  • http://hoopistani.blogspot.com hoopistani

    can’t believe d-wade isn’t on this list.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

@Alan – Yao not a big star over there???????? Let’s review this discussion come ALLSTAR BALLOT TIME. Even Shane Battier gets his ‘grant Hill’ on for voting numbers?! Comment. Fail.

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

@Philosopher: I disagree with your assertion that all LBJ needs is 1 title. IF they win, regardless of who is statiscally the best player on that Heat team, LBJ will catch flack for not being able to win without Wade, having to follow someone else, etc. Not that those kind of barbs are warrented, but they tend to haunt players.

  • Blackphantom

@Philosopher just hop off of his sack, he isn’t greatest of all-time, nor does he live up to his nickname. Just stop it
