Lack of Defense Costing Danny Granger Playing Time?

The Indy Star takes the Pacer forward to task for not buckling down on defense for Team USA, with the hope that this won’t spill into his play in Indiana next season: “It’s no secret that Granger’s defense has regressed the past few years. His lack of defense has been in an even bigger spotlight this summer. Some people thought Granger would end up getting more minutes than Andre Iguodala and Rudy Gay when the team was training in Las Vegas. It’s been the opposite. Granger got a DNP-CD in USA’s narrow victory over Brazil earlier this week. He’s averaging 13.3 minutes a game. Iguodala let’s his defense dictate his offense. He gets in the passing lane so that he has an opportunity for easy baskets on the other end. Granger let’s his offense dictate his defense. That won’t get it done in Turkey and it won’t get it done down on Pennsylvania Street.”

it’s simple, you just can’t have iggy, gay, durant and Granger in the same team, someone has to sit on the bench,if you’re not playing defence at 100%,then you give your coach an easy desicion to that dilhema

  • Ben

If they want defense, they could have just keep Gerald Wallace.

Danny is garbage…i dont know how he made the team in the 1st place

  • Michael

ability to play Defense is what is keeping Granger from being a truly special player. He cant keep guys in front of him.He is a decent off the ball defender, but he lacks athleticism. Dude would be a nightmare if he was a lockdown defender

Yeah, he definitely deserved that All-Star spot.

Danny wears deodorant and everybody in Turkey looks at him for that LOL

Seems to me he had one really great year and has fallen off since.

danny granger is ass. he is not and should never be on a USA team. How are the pacers building around this guy? How is he going to be ur best player. What does he bring to a team really?

Danny Granger was a VERY GOOD defender his first few years in the L. It’s not easy carrying a enormous offensive load, while trying to play D too. Ask Steve Nash.

    lol tavoris

Granger brings scoring, some leadership, some rebounding and some clutchness (for Indiana, not USA). Assists and his defence are really his area of expertise.
He had a few good years, managed to improve every season until this one, would be a much bigger star if they made some playoff noise

Remeber 2 years ago when everyone started talking about LeBron for DPOY, because of all his chase down blocks? Well, Granger had more blocks than him that year.

  • NicktheQuick

Danny keeps getting burned on D by molasses-slow Euro guards. He may have been great on D at one time in the L but he sure is trying at the FIBA Worlds. He keeps having defensive lapses, fouling a lot and having trouble staying in front of anyone. Don’t know if its a confidence thing or a minutes thing. Unless he gave up working on D when Dante Jones came over!

  • JTaylor21

@Boing Dynatsty Bron actually defends and locks down people just ask PPierce. @Tavoris great joke, maybe that is what all the SNash junkies will start using as an excuse for his NON defensive a**.

OVERTIME- u are tripping hard homie. he brings scoring to that team cause they have no one else on the team to score. so that doesnt count.Leadership and clutchness are u serious. when did he get those attribute to his game cuz i must have miss it. and he gives u about 4 boards a game.so he aint doing to much. i live in indy so i see alot of his wack ass game. it is nothing to talk about they should trade his ass for rudy fernadez or something. lol
and he is soft as hell like all the players indiana has the colts included

  • http://slamonline.com riggs

its because delonte f***ed his mom

  • Overtime

Run’N'Gun, i completely agree he scores because he’s on a team with no other scorers, but it doesnt take away his ability. He has some (notice the word ‘some, not ‘alot of’) leadership, because he is the best player on that team, the offense is centered on him, he takes them anywhere they wanna go, he leads them.
Rebounding, again, he gives some, but not a lot. Atal.
Though no1, in their right mind, would trade Granger for Fernandez

he just jacks 3s up all game,he averaged like 10 3point attempts a game in a stretch last season!what is larry bird teaching this fool?this isnt the 80′s

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Should’ve kept Mcgee.. even Chandler is getting burried at the bench at times..

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHICAGO SAID IT YUP

HE HAS TO SACRAFICE FOT THE “TEAM”. WHICH IS WHAT ALWAYS HAPPENS DURING THESE KIN OF EVENTS. HOW EASY PPL FORGET HOW MUCH ALOT OF THOSE GUYS FROM THE 2008 TEAM STURGGLED. YES, EVEN LEBRON DIDNT PLAY WELL DURING THE OLYMPICS. NEITHER DID KOBE UP UNTIL THE VERY LAST 2 GAMES WHEN HE HIT BIG SHOTS. CHRIS PAUL AND DERON WILLIAMS DIDNT EXACTLY LIGHT IT UP EITHER.BUT PPL REMEMBER THAT TEAM SO FONDLY BECAUSE THEY WON THE GOLD. SO HOPEFULLY WHEN THIS TEAM WINS THE GOLD PPL WILL FINALLY GIVE THEM ALL CREDIT FOR SACRAFICING THEIR GAMES AND DOING SOMETHING NO US TEAM HAS DONE SINCE THE 90S

  • JTaylor21

Chitown, CP3 played great during the olympics and so did Bron. The best players in the 08 olympics were Wade, Bosh, Bron, and CP3 in that order. Get your facts straight before you come on here typing in ALL CAPS and stating false claims.

  • tavoris

Granger is definitely NOT a bum. Indiana has been a BS team for the past few season. All the while, Granger has been putting up Paul Pierce-esque numbers. Pair him with another scoring option and he’ll starting guarding people again.

  • total scrotal implosion

He can play better d than what hee has been, but he needs help in indy. Darren is a good start . Lets see what he does with a real pg

  • xplore

He should drop out of USA team and practice to help out the Pacers. (Just like rondo did)

  • PlanetAsia14

    … You don’t say…
