Matt Barnes Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The newest Los Angeles Laker is in some hot legal water, following an arrest on domestic violence charges.

Barnes was booked in Sacramento after a physical confrontation between Barnes and a woman he lives with allegedly took place.

KCRA in Sacramento has the report:

Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies say Los Angeles Lakers player Matt Kelly Barnes was arrested on domestic violence charges. Officials said deputies responded to an incomplete 911 call from a residence located in the 8100 block of Sunset Avenue at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday where they met with 30-year-old Matt Kelly Barnes and a woman who he lived with and had a dating relationship.

Deputies said they determined the two were involved in a physical confrontation during which Barnes prevented the woman from talking to 911 operators. Furthermore, while both parties had visible injuries, Barnes was determined to be the primary aggressor and taken into custody, officials said.

After posting a $50,000 bond and getting released from jail, Barnes went on the offensive, in an attempt to clear his name in the court of public opinion.

He tweeted his side of the story (in all caps) and also sent a text message to News 10:

“DON’T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN’T SEE!!!”

“U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That’s the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want…”

The Lakers have yet to comment on the arrest.

Get some money, get some tat’s watch a few music videos, swagger jack some musician now you are an official ‘gangsta’, I put this dude on the same list as JR Smith: Young, Dumb and Rich. These dudes need to pump their brakes, shut up, shut out the bs and just play ball. Also, I would never let any female I’m associated with go around any of the ‘women’ on the Basketball Wives show… ever… can’t even watch the commercial for the show.

I don’t know what happened and hope no one was seriously hurt but to say
Barnes is or isn’t “THE TYPE” is silly sense most of use do NOT know him personally but can only go by his in your face, tough guy game.

  • tavoris

I wonder what Jay Mariotti has to say about this. Wait a minute-the same thing happened to him last week…

  • http://sdjkflf.com Jukai

4:43 pm TSI can’t read and should apologize to Myles right away before Myles calls him out

    tsi,
myles was being sarcastic in his initial post. he even tried to make it easy for you by saying (the key word is…: alleged)

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

    jukai,
following your debate with crawford about zone vs handchecking, youre hilarious for bringing it back up here

Some of yall need to relax like the Ebay, trying to bring up the Lakers trangressions. You should have been a man and put Artest and Kobe name in their. The thing is alot of the suppose role models have done stuff too. I agree with Myles, I have read things about Wade and Lebron and Howard and others, that contradict what they try to put out as individuals. No one is perfect and all have sinned. Some of yall must live in a glass house and never had any stones thrown at yall, but to each their own, but yall taking up for Lebron and Wade DON’T KNOW THEM FOOLS, YALL ARE FANS and if you really knew them might never ROOT for them ever again. Also the Kobe jokes some of yall bring up from the past is getting old, but if trying to be funny is some of yall cats goal so be it. But some PUNKS up here need to MAN UP.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

If you point the proverbial finger at others when you are trying to defend someone elses dumb actions, you must be a moron or an enabler or Seed. Most of you cats are laughable, starting with Myles. Comparing what Myles cited in comparison to female abuse of any sort shows where your heads at and deserves no debate. Thats real.

Ive been there before.. Its pretty much your word against theirs, and the woman always gets the benefit of the doubt.. I had to confess to something I didnt do just to get outta jail, and into classes.. You could drop a dish in a sink and be arrested for d/v..

  • http://www.dontevenreply.com total scrotal implosion

Jukai and david, u dummies. Read the last line of 150. Then go read 1226 and tell me hes not being hypocritical. Anyways, any man who puts his hands on a woman for anything less than being domed with a frying pan is a pu@$y. If you cant take a womans best punch, you are not a man.

  • http://www.dontevenreply.com total scrotal implosion

Boss terry, I know what u mean. A friend of mine got domed with a glass by his girl, it cut his forehead. And she hit him with other items. He didnt touch her. He called 5 0, who promptly arrested him. You probably shouldnt have confessed, but I understand if that was your only way out.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Nobody know what happened or how this started. My personal opinion is that it’s never acceptable to put your hands on a woman out of anger (although sometimes you may want too). However, I hope that the facts are clear and in the end things are dealt with fairly. That’s all I hope for anybody, fair treatment. Being rumored to have done something, being charged with doing something and being convicted are three very different things and I don’t believe comparing ‘stories’ about what somebody was suppose to have done to a conviction is ever appropriate. Kobe was not convicted of rape/sexual assault so I think people need to leave that alone. However if you want to call him an adulterer or something along those lines then thats fair (he admitted it). LBJ/Wade haven’t been charged or convicted of any crimes and most everything else is just speculation. If you want to argue they are taking the ‘easy way out’ or made bad decisions etc, that’s o.k., but not criminal. Let the courts decide what happened with Barnes and base thoughts and considerations on facts. As facts should be the basis of any argument.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

but if we put up trangression by non-laker players you’d be just fine right Seed? So where’s the things you read about wade or lebron? Does it level to what Kobe, Ron and Barnes being charged of? Because if it is then we’d knew them all by now FOR SURE. Because thats a bigger story than our lives combined.. Every person who have done the same sh*t would be convicted in peoples minds. If he’s a non-laker you’d just get along right? Talk about being a man..

  • http://sdjkflf.com Jukai

TSI: HE IS BEING SARCASTIC. God, it’s people like you who force him to never post here anymore.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Stoopid d/v joke- What do U say to a woman with 2 black eyes? Nothing. (you already told her twice).. In all seriousness. It is not a laughing matter. I knew a girl who was beat to death by her boyfriend/pimp.. The law takes it very seriously . There really is no such thing as a “little bit” of domestic violence. In the eyes of the law. I guy who slaps his wife once will be punished the same as a guy whose been doing it for 20 years..

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

If the female threw stuff and punches at Matt Barnes first (who knows what happened), the female will still get the clear and Matt Barnes will be charged even if he was defending himself.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Myles Brown

    I was being sarcastic.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Myles Brown

And call it laughable if you want, but Id bet that most women would rather get punched than get herpes.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

^ Wtf does that have to do with anything? That’s like saying “I bet you most men would rather get kicked in the balls and robbed at gunpoint than to catch malaria.” The fridge? Catching herpes by accident is not a crime–abusing your girlfriend is. Not that any of those is in any way, shape or form desirable.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

52 percent of domestic violence in America is female-on-male. Men just don’t report because of ego function or fear of ridicule for reporting. Just saying.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

Been with mylady for 12 years, early in our relationship we got into it and she lost it and landed a slap on me that made my ears ring. I remember just seeing red, and being on the verge of losing it, so i picked up the car keys and walked out. When i got back, she practically begged for my forgiveness. It’s never happened again since. Being african, i got manhandled a lot in my youth and i don’t take kindly to being hit now, i’d rather beat someone to a pulp, but you.just.don’t.hit.women.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Trivia- On what day is domestic violence most common??? ansewer- Super Bowl Sunday… Thats a fact. (I learned it in those stupid meetings)

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

the zone vs man on man reference was brilliant – none hand checking zones is the only defense we should be playing with our lady friends…

  • JTaylor21

@BTerry you know why? Because all those stupid fat f*cks who watch football are drinking while watching football which makes you even dumber. No wonder why football is only popular in the US and the rest of the world could give a rat a**.

  • http://Slamonline.com Cmonpeoples

Jtaylor is a douche. Not my opinion but a fact.

  • http://slamonline.com J Dizzle

Yea because no stupid f*cks watch basketball… oh wait yea they do. JTayloy is example 1a.

  • Mike from Spain

I want this not to be true, but it looks plausible enough… I hope that the women beating is not contagious, I would hate to see Pau doing that

  • Love4Humanity

This isn’t about LeBron, his mom or Kobe. Kobe’s situation has long been over and done with and all that happened is he cheated on his wife. Let it go. Love him or hate him, it’s over.
