Miami Heat Facing Injuries With Point Guards

The Heat could find themselves short-handed at the point when training camp rolls around, as both Carlos Arroyo and Mario Chalmers are injured. From the Sun-Sentinel: “Carlos Arroyo, who finished last season as the team’s starting point guard, remains sidelined at the World Championships in Turkey due to a deep bruise in his left quadriceps. Mario Chalmers, the third-year guard expected to challenge for the starting role this season, is listed as ‘questionable’ by the Heat for the Sept. 28 start of training camp, after suffering a high ankle sprain during July workouts. The only other point guards on the roster are summer-league prospects Patrick Beverley and Kenny Hasbrouck, with each yet to appear in an NBA regular-season game, and veteran combo guard Eddie House, the free agent signed away from the New York Knicks who is considered more of a scorer than playmaker.”

    Somebody call Starbury and Skip!

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.2 at 9:13 am
Pat Bev, to the rescue! Was impressed with him while playing for Olympiakos last season, even though Scoonie Penn got more Minutes due to his better passing. He sure as hell has the athletic ability, jumper and defensive tenacity to play the 1, especially next to those 2 other combo Guards they have.

They’ll just move Wade to the point for awhile and start Miller at the 2. Probably their strongest lineup anyway. Da’Sean Butler can play some point too if I recall correctly.

did somebody say Anfernee Penny Hardaway

  • Boy Sanchez Posted: Sep.2 at 9:49 am
@Darksaber…: Yeah Beverley is a helluva player! He can run the point quite effectively and he is really quick. He is like a less experienced Allen Iverson. The kid got handles…

    ALLEN I….okay I’ll stop…

Carlos Arroyo is busy working on his reggaeton record. Somebody forgot to inform him that the reggaeton fad died shortly after 2008.

I feel like a broken record. A team with Wade or LeBron, let alone both, does not need a traditional playmaking pg. They need a deadly spot up 3 point shooter…Eddie House? Or they can run Wade, LeBron, Miller at the 1, 2, 3.

    Shout out to Tego Calderon.

  • dirty frank Posted: Sep.2 at 10:12 am
Well I’m not sure about House’s D. They do need someone who can stay in front of the leagues 1′s. I don’t see why the Wade, Miller, LeBron won’t work on D too though.

People were poking the wrong voo-doo dolls. This wont affect them at all.

  • LDR4 Posted: Sep.2 at 10:34 am
They are also facing what will be an epically weak frontcourt.

  • real Posted: Sep.2 at 10:40 am
FREE PENNY HARDAWAY! Let him play!!

  • chase Posted: Sep.2 at 10:42 am
allen iver….. ok i’ll stop also

  • niQ Posted: Sep.2 at 10:42 am
Meh. Wade will run point at the start of the season. End of Story.

  • dirty frank Posted: Sep.2 at 10:52 am
@LDR4 – you said it. Joel Anthony’s performance, (or lack of), at FIBA should be scaring any Heat fan.

  • LA Huey Posted: Sep.2 at 11:20 am
    BETCATS said it best

  • niQ Posted: Sep.2 at 11:28 am
Actually, Joel Anthony has been better than expected. He’s getting mad blocks too. Which is really all they need from him in Miami.

  • Mendel Posted: Sep.2 at 1:34 pm
    Iverson Now!!!

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.2 at 2:01 pm
    Point – Lebron
    Shooting – Wade
    Small – Miller
    Power – Bosh
    Center – Z
    Soooo… what’s the problem?

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Sep.2 at 3:35 pm
A bruise and a twist. They will b fine

  • CONEY ISLANDER Posted: Sep.2 at 3:36 pm
    @JUKAI….CHURCH!!!! LOL

  • flipnoyce Posted: Sep.2 at 4:20 pm
What a way to start up the Championship team, psych!!!! I wonder when Wade and Bosh’s turn to get injured cause I’d like to c the looks on LBJ face! Maybe they could use Pat Riley to run the point after all the Heat don’t really need a floor general, psych!!! The key to Miami’s victory is ball distribution! Distribution, distribution and distribution!!!!

  • westeves25 Posted: Sep.2 at 4:35 pm
What makes me laugh about this whole Miami thing is; Okay they got the TRIO they wanted but does everyone forget how injury prone Wade is? non-the-less, they have to play 82 games……. Which means one of the three will miss a handful of games…. meaning they will need a reliable 1 that can just pass and spot up and occasionally apply some D…… my pick….. AI…….

  • Andy Posted: Sep.2 at 4:45 pm
aah, just get AI and go all the way. No one can blame Iverson for anything if it doesn’t work out. If he won’t be any good for the Heat, everyone would say: “Oh, that’s what I said.” If the Heat will sign him, they will at least give it a shot. Without any point guards, AI is better than nothing. Who else is left, anyway?

  • MBE18 Posted: Sep.2 at 5:42 pm
They need to let LeBron run the point

  • MBE18 Posted: Sep.2 at 5:42 pm
They need to let LeBron run the point

  • Stillballin Posted: Sep.2 at 8:17 pm
    Sign A.I. Now!!!!!

  • Jacob (from Australia) Posted: Sep.2 at 8:43 pm
Co-sign Jukai. LeBron to point, too easy.

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.2 at 9:44 pm
I want AI as far away from this team as possible

  • dirty frank Posted: Sep.3 at 1:16 am
Everyone PLEASE let AI, Marbury & every other FORMER great just go quietly into the night. No team needs them.

  • dirty frank Posted: Sep.3 at 1:17 am
Now Antoin Walker playing point forward. Now THAT would be a smart pick-up.

  • Eduardo Posted: Sep.3 at 2:57 am
Doesn’t matter Lebron and Wade can both play the point. The point guard in this Heat team will pretty much be a catch and shooter without really controlling the offense as that will all be through Lebron or Wade.

  • J Posted: Sep.3 at 4:04 am
Lebron is the point guard what’s the problem?

  • J Posted: Sep.3 at 4:05 am
@ Jukai @ 2:01, problem is the center.

  • Bassbesteck Posted: Sep.4 at 9:34 am
i don’t see the problem. Let House start if the other two are injured. And just let LBJ play the point forward. It’s a little off strategywise maybe, but still thexy should have no problem…

Heats should trade Miller, House, and Anthony for Nash. PG – Nash
    SG – Wade
    C – Z
    SF – LeBron
PF – Bosh Iverson works as well for point but whatever happens Heat need a flipping useful center. Heat has 5 centers but funny thing is that they’re all useless, trade 4 centers and another player for a decent one, that’s my take on it.
