Reggie Miller on Heat: ‘This is Still Dwyane’s Team’

For Reggie, the pecking order on South Beach is clear cut. From the Herald: ”TNT’s Reggie Miller said the Heat’s star system is simple: ‘Dwyane Wade is the Derek Jeter here. LeBron James is the Alex Rodriguez. One of those guys will have to sacrifice, and it will have to be LeBron. This is still Dwyane’s team.”’

I never thought I say this But I agree with Reggie

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com Masr

Well duh Lebron realized this once he made this decision… i hope.

  • JTaylor21

Of course it’s DWade’s team but similar to the Yanks with DJ, ARod and Bron are the BETTER players.

  • drosefan

Reggie’s right. LeBron needs Wade more than Wade needs LeBron.

  • Overtime

On the money. Meanwhile Chris Bosh is smiling because he gets to be a centerpiece………..

  • Trey

Drosefan: which one of them hasn’t been outta the first round since 2006? Oh yea, Wade. I believe Wade needs Bron much more than vice versa

  • Marty

All this talk is so corny. Wait til jumpball. It can be Wade’s team in spirit but once the game starts the better player will take over and everyone will adjust. No matter what the hatewagon riders are saying that is Lebron James, plain and simple. JTaylor21 said it best.

  • e

oh shut up already lebron will fit perfectly and him and wade will compliment each other i remember times when mike and pip would both go for 30 or 40 this will be the same im just happy lebron does not have to dominate the ball for 40 minutes while his teammates stand there admiring him and i believe wade wanted this much more than lebron

  • Corbin

    Bron is not a closer.

  • Exile

Trey: Who has a Ring? Seriously though… It has to be a Wade lead. He’s the best on court LEADER out of the three anyhow.

  • JTaylor21

^^Sure the same guy that has led the NBA in 4th quarter points and last 5 minutes of a game in scoring for the past 3 years is not a closer, CHILD PLEASE!!

  • BadBluue

I think this team need to be every Miami Heat players team – if they wanna win a ring…

  • The Philosopher

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING!

  • http://airtsinelas.tk Roy

Reggie Miller is right and I agree with him….

  • drosefan

    Trey
Which one carried his team in the Finals and took four straight games from the Mavs to seal a championship? Wade.

  • KING

Dwyane Wade is Michael and Lebron is Tito
Wasn’t the heat the team that wasn’t suppose to make playoffs?
Wasn’t the cavs the favorite to win the championship the past 2 years?
Lebron is not a CLOSER…he could score 40 in the last 5 minutes of the game but still won’t be the closer that kobe and dwyane wade are.

  • Trey

How long ago was that? 2006. Compare that roster to the one Bron carried a year later to the Finals. Miami got production from Shaq all the way down to GP.

  • T-Money

I don’t think it’s possible to make that assessment just yet. As Spoelstra said, the leader of this team will emerge “organically” during the course of the season. We just have to wait and see and it will become increasingly evident.

  • JTaylor21

Trey is right people, act like DWade beat the Mavs by his freaking self playing 1 on 5. Zo and GP were major factors in the deciding game especially Zo who took over offensively and defensively in the closing minutes of Gm 6. @King, you’re contradicting yourself with your last sentence.

  • Robb

LBJ is a hell of a sidekick.

  • Jose

Wade’s Team. Always Has, Always will…untill he retires,if LBJ stays in Southbeach after Wade retires THEN i will call it Lebron’s Team.

  • tavoris

Lebron will be the leader of the team. No one else in the entire league takes as much pressure off their teammates. Dwayne and Bosh will have a field day with not having to face double-teams.

  • Coney Islander

That’s the EXACT comparison I made. A-Rod is a better baseball player overall that Jeter with one exception Jeter is a killer. LeBron can score all the points he needs to because lets be honest, no one is stopping him but not in crunch time, D-Wade is the killer.

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com ClutchPerformer

Well if Dwade is Jeter and Lebron is A-Rod
well I rather be Jeter, I may not be better talent wise but still good none the less, but i come through when it matters if put in a position to do so, and Im not an arrogant ego and I dont choke. and Im the Leader.
this team is Wades, how often outside of Charles Barkley do people leave their teams and become the man? Bron went to wade not the other way around and Wade has the ring and the MVP that matters, finals that is. but Drexler didnt leave and become the man, KG become 1b , while Pierce is 1a, and with injuries Paul stands alone as 1. rarely do you leave a team to another team with a franchise player and become the man, this isnt one of them

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    It’s about WE, not ME.

  • MikeC.

Reggie Miller, checking in to garnish some attention.

  • JTaylor21

All these people on there talking about how DJ performs in the clutch and ARod doesn’t must have not watched last year’s MLB playoffs when ARod had one of the best postseasons of all-time and came up BIG time after time in crunch time. ARod like Bron is the better player of those two (DJ/Dwade) and they’ve both came up BIG in the clutch numerous times. You guys need to do your RESEARCH before you come on here acting like you know what you’re talking bout.

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com ClutchPerformer

ok that was last year, what about the year b4 that and every other time, one year is a break out year but we dont forget everything else before that how many times had A-Rod done anything significant in the playoffs, and for that matter the year they got A-Rod they were calling him a Bust cuz he hadnt lived up to the hype and they were calling him choker. and Lebron does damage leading up to it but not where it matters, looking at last year, ya he slaughtered the Pistons, but what happened after that? ya they swept the playoffs but what happened when they met the magic, ya they had this huge hype and did damage this year but what happened against the Celtics another comparison would you really wanna be A-Rod a guy who admitted to using Steroids?

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com Masr

I was born and raised a heat fan and imo this is how it is, Dwyane is the better leader and Bron is the better player and how they play depending on how you perceive one player to be better then another ( more ppg, more assists, better all around game, etc) will be your opinion and your opinion alone.

  • http://sdjkflf.com Jukai

Disagree strongly. Was it still Kareem’s team when Magic joined?

  • nba is the worst

I find this very interesting – that Heat fans are divided on this issue and the coach says it will happen “organically” DOESN’T bode well…

The coach needs to lead the team – that was a huge problem in Cleveland, and in Miami last season as well (remember Spol “didn’t know” he had a foul to give in game 3), and didn’t think the play would be the PP iso at the elbow so told Wright to play off him?

No one has an ego bigger than LeQUIT’s – but Wade certainly has a right to think it’s his team. When the Heat start the season 1-2, will the coach step up and LEAD?

  • http://slamonline.com J Dizzle

JTaylor21 said “Sure the same guy that has led the NBA in 4th quarter points and last 5 minutes of a game in scoring for the past 3 years is not a closer, CHILD PLEASE!!”

But what has he won in those 3 years? MVP? Closers close when it matters; Closers win championships– that’s the difference.

  • al

wade and bron.. such a dirty bro-mance..

  • JTaylor21

@CP, I’m just pointing out what ARod did last year to people who are saying that he’s a choker and doesn’t come up BIG in crunch time. Also what happened against the Magic was that Bron put up an insane 38/8/8 while his teammates shrunk like my balls in cold water, and this year when he “allegedly” choked again he avg. 29/9/7 with 51 FG% and his teammates esp. AJamison and of course Mo No Show Willams shrunk again. Even someone that people SWEAR is impeccable in the clutch had worse numbers against the same celtics team. Those numbers to me look like a man he comes up BIG during the second season and his career playoff numbers prove just that.

  • http://sdjkflf.com Jukai

Anyone who says Wade is a better leader either doesn’t watch basketball or hates Lebron. Fer real.
The team dynamic for me is obvious: In the huddle, it will be Wade, giving emotional speeches, patting role players on the back, getting players pumped to win games
On the FLOOR, it will be Lebron. All Lebron. Lebron leads his team like an orchestra, both offensively and defensively. Dude will be the only voice on the court, and Wade will do whatever Lebron says.
So who is the real leader: the guy who speaks in the huddle or the guy who speaks on the floor?

  • nba is the worst

Heat will have trouble being top 15 in rebounding with a 6’9″ starting center – that will cause mismatches in the paint vs most NBA teams.

But the sdjustment for Wade and LeQuit from dominating the ball offensively for virtually their entire careers to having to establish a viable offensive flow around 3 players won’t be that easy vs good defensive teams.

JDizzle is right – no matter how gaudy regular season stats are, the fact remains that last season, the Cavs led 2-1 having handed the Celtics their worst home playoff loss in Celtic history, and only needed to win 10 games at home for the title – and the 2-time MVP decided it was more important to send a big FU to the Cavs organization than to give his (previously seen) normal effort…

  • http://sdjkflf.com Jukai

But yeah, since people who dont’ have a good enough argument to make Wade sound like the leader of the basketball team need to bring up other qualities, I’ll agree: Wade is a better closer than Lebron. Will Wade always take the last shot? No, Wade’s passing and BBall IQ are way better than that. Many times it will be Lebron running a play to get Wade open. Many times Lebron will take it himself. Many times they will give it to Bosh.
But if ALL factors were the same, and you had to create one play to spread the floor and run an iso for ONE PLAYER on the Heat’s team… I’d run it for Wade. He’s a better closer.

  • JTaylor21

@Jukai, you make a great point about wade being a better closer even though I STRONGLY disagree with you because the numbers and games I’ve watched say different but people are saying that Bron is not a closer at ALL. What do you think?

    -=-=-=-

The least you could do is post correct stats…

Vs the Celtics, he averaged 26.8 ppg on 44.7% FG shooting (more than 10 ppg below his season average vs the Celtics), and 26.9% from 3-pt range.

What’s fun is to compare LeBron’s stats in games 1-3 to LeQUIT’s in games 4-6. Try it, you might be surprised at the FACTS…

  • total scrotal implosion

Anyone who thought the cavs were title favorites the last couple years has bed bugs in their brain

  • drosefan

LeBron wasn’t good as the leader of the Cavs, so why would he emerge as the leader on the Heat? Being a leader is more than just passing to your teammates. The Heat are D-Wade’s team. Miami is his city. Their arena is his house. It will stay that way.

are you guys kidding me?? bron wanted this way more than wade..sure wade desperately wanted help cause his team was awful, but lebron was the one that insisted on coming to miami to be with his friends cause he knows he couldnt win a championship in cleveland. wade has a ring. bron doesnt. bron needed wade more than wade needs lebron

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Now this is what bugs me: it’s always been my opinion that lebron went to miami to win titles right? And that him, wade and bosh have been planning this get together for a long time now. Now you take a look at their former teams, and you go away thinking that miami is the ONLY team of the three that can really accommodate them all, especially with the luxury tax cut thing. My point being is that to presume that bron needs wade more than wade needs him is a bit misleading, since there was no way wade was going to cleveland, it was never going to be feasible. I’m sure that if cleveland had the same flexibility miami had this summer salary cap-wise, wade would be there as soon as lebron resigned. And bosh would follow as soon as shaq left.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Of course, having riley orchestrate the entire thing certainly didn’t hurt, but that’s beside the point I was making.

  • http://yahoo ddub

dont kid yourself, there is a new guy in town, and if pat riley had a gun placed to huis head and was told to trade one,,wade would have to pack his bags, lebron has never played second!! dont kid yourself!!

  • tavoris

@Jukai-well said. Lebron is ALREADY the biggest name in Miami. He’s the alpha of alpha dogs in the NBA for damn good reason. Wade knows it. Spolestra knows it. Riley knows it.
However, Bosh will get a lot of open end-of-game looks with all the attention Lebron and Wade command. Plus, he’s a better shooter and free-throw shooter than both of them.

  • tavoris

Wade definitely needed Lebron more. With the weight he was carrying in MIA, he was due to crash and burn after he passed 30 y/o. Which is in about 2 years.
This move will definitely extend his career.
