Shaq Takes a Shot at Mo Williams

It’s pretty clear that there were chemistry problems between Shaq and Mo. From the Times Picayune: “‘I like that they play together and nobody really worries about shots,’ O’Neal said. ‘When I was with Cleveland, guys who couldn’t even play were worried about shots. Why was Mo (Williams) taking 15 shots, and I’m only taking four? If LeBron takes 20 shots, that’s cool. So I said, let me get with a good team for the last two years. I don’t mind people calling me a journeyman. I’ve been programmed to move around every three years.’”

can someone please moderate the comments? And screen names? That’s a disgrace.
The first comment did make me chuckle though. Then I saw his name.

Shaq is right. No way that Mo No Show Williams should be talking 15 shots.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Sorry… that comment slipped through. All good now.

  • tavoris

Shaq has a point. Mo did seem to have a big of an ego problem (even if it was directly tied to Lebron’s ego).

  • flipnoyce

Now lets see if Shaq and Rondo can cook something really good at Beantown!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

His departure wouldn’t be final if he didn’t take a shot at someone from the team he just left.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Mo actually averages about 12 shots a game. He scores 15 per. 44% from the field, which is average, and 42% from the arc, which is excellent. Why does he take “15″ shots? Because he produces at a good rate. Everybody just stop asking shaq anymore questions, the way that he ignorantly and arrogantly throws former teammates and coaches under the bus is so g0ddamned tiring. Please.

  • James aka…

Few have done less with more. Only derrick coleman leaps to mind. Shaq is the bart simpson of the NBA universe: Often funny, often rude, and achieves way less than someone with his gifts should.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

With LeBron gone, Mo will probably be taking a few more shots, but prob getting less dimes now (adding the fact that Sessions is in town).

  • garrick g.

you say that as if shaq had his laptop open to basketballreference.com when he was being interviewed. people seem to forget just how many interviews these guys do, and how little they actually think about what they say before they say it. sort of like us…omg…i think im onto something.

basketball players are real people too????!!!

  • dma

Shaq must have found out Mo doesn’t watch Shaq VS

  • drosefan

Ooo shots fired lol. Mo is just a shooter. He’s not a point guard really. Just a shooter. Stand in a corner and shoot. Just like Gibson. Delonte West was/is a better overall player than Mo.
    @tavoris I agree with you.

  • NicktheQuick

I bet if Mo runs into Shaq at the airport, I bet they will not be having a heart to heart conversation about old times, pre-game clowning and number of shots.

  • MP73

Shaq now doesn’t mind being a “journeyman” when he used to tell us he isn’t a Erik Dampier type center. And he’s still crying about how many shots he gets??? I know his pick & roll defense is terrible and all he has left is offense but he can’t finish at the rim like he used to and he eats up shot clock trying to score down low. Dude is a two faced douche…he’s all laughs and smiles but a cancer to teams with younger players and weak coaches.

  • Shem

Co-sign MP73: Shaq gives up more then he gets. The high shooting percentage last year was deceiving. When LeBron commands double and triple teams, Mo, Jamison and Parker can’t be left alone.. Shaq will have many uncontested shots. He was the 4th option on that team.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave.

I think if you can’t handle Shaq you’re maybe not a good enough coach to win it anyway.

  • underdog

    All talk.

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com Masr

Goddamn i loved shaq when he was on the heat and liked him everywhere else he went but now everything he says is just noise and cosign mp73.

Mo Williams sucks that’s not taking shots, that’s saying the truth

True or not, Shaq’s just justifying his continued existence in the NBA. I really used to like him, he was one of my favorite players, but now he’s just sounds like a child, bitter that he’s no longer the cool kid at school. As great as he was, I really wish he had thought about going out gracefully, like Dream or David Robinson. It really is sad.

What was the comment that got removed?

  • vtrobot

yeah, shaq can be a d*ck these days, but comparing him to derrick coleman? give me a f*cking break. shaq probably deserved more MVPs than anyone from this era.

  • dsleepy

  • hobbes

Mo is a fk joke only reason he appeared in all star game once is coz of LeJoke. Shaq can take a shot at anyone who dont have a ring all right~

  • All Day

Co-Sign Cheryl! Shaq has a history of throwing former teammates and coaches under the bus. I wonder if Shaq remembers all those bunnies he missed last season. Maybe that’s the reason why he didn’t touch the ball that often…he missed way too many one and two foot baskets. The Shaq experiment will not end well in Boston. When the Celtics get rid of Shaq after this season, he’s going to throw them under the bus, too.

  • The Philosopher

    Shaquille “Manny Ramirez” O’Neal.

  • All Day

@hobbes: You can continue defending that bum, but Shaq has become what he used to mock for so many years…a front-running, washed-up player who jumps from team to team in an effort to win a championship.

  • All Day

    “The Big Manny Ramirez!”

  • Ben

    Mo Williams doesn’t actually exist

  • yaos foot

Shaq is a two faced douche but he is only saying what everyone who watched the cavs in the playoffs was thinking. “mo gotti” is a punk and a choke artist. the celtics loaded up on bron and gave mo so many open 3s. if he would have converted some of those 15 shots maybe lebron wouldn’t be on the heat

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Some of yall are buying this crap. Shaq couldn’t stay on the floor long enough to take over 10 shots. Plus why would the Cavs run plays for an old center who barely could move and get off of the floor. Mo to me took about right amount of shots a game. It wasn’t Mo fault they lost anyway. It was a team effort and was being lead by example. No wonder Kobe was ready to leave this cat. He hasn’t taken shots at every former team and now Wade/Lebron don’t even want him in Miami. LOL!!! Also I bet you he takes some shots at Boston once his journeyman career is over. BOOK IT!!!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

^ Ooooh sheeit, I saw what you did there, Seed! *Subliminal shot at LeBron*

  • Yesse

That’s not really a shot at Mo. Besides i kinda agree. Mo, compared to Shaq. Diesel did not get that many opportunities as he should have.

  • James aka…

Shaq should have rung off 8 championships or so with Kobe, but egos clashed. One of the things that made kobe mad was shaqs utter disinterest in showing up in shape, which is a function of course of being lazy. The more time passes, the more its apparent that the ring in miami was a very flukey proposition, which is something he himself has said recently. Many of the injuries he suffered in his career, like the strained abdominals is related to him not putting in work. The first few years of his career he was often criticized for thinking about everything but basketball, and i think over time we can see that was valid criticism. He had the agility, speed, strength and even skill to be in the running for best ever, but he was too busy having fun to care enough. Consequently, he’s a hall of fame underachiever, which is how he’s like coleman. Coleman it should be remembered was going to change the game before he didn’t. Shaq was so blessed with gifts that he changed the game in spite of himself, but he coasts. His lack of commitment to improving the most critical deficiency he has, free throws, demonstrates a lack of passion for the game. He treats the NBA like its a job, he doesn’t bleed it like jordan or kobe. So if you disagree, make an argument, not a worthless one line response.

  • Zac

It’s ironic Shaq used to be thought of highly for his child-like demeanor, now it’s just sad. What a bitter, poor man he has become. Retire Shaq, you’re done.

On another note, Mo is/was the perfect point for a Lebron James team – defers ball handling, great shooter (although as with all LBJ teammates his stats suffered as a result). He will again have a productive year – check his years with the Bucks. Always appreciated your game Mo.

    Shaq being Shaq.

mos gay he cant do anything right espically run a team cleveland should drop him for anyone at this point i would drop him for andy rautins for gods sake at least hel pass the ball

  • vtrobot

james, i don’t really care enough about this issue to try to put together a whole thesis on it. i will ask: where you there during all of those off-seasons when he was dogging it instead of working out? everyone has the ability to get totally ripped? no one is just naturally heavy? oliver miller was like he was by choice? big baby doesn’t give a f*ck and could be 6′ 8″ and 225? yes, shaq’s loved being a clown and an entertainer during his entire career. it seemed to me like he was trying during all of those years when he was dominating the league. yeah, he’s just like DC, with a little bit of eddy curry too. please, man. these “potential” arguements are always funny. if someone ruled college ball, was an all-star for the first 3 years in the league, and then clearly dropped way off because they didn’t care, I can see making an argument. saying that shaq/sheed/etc./etc. always played their entire lives at 75%, is really silly. how would anyone know that. people are people. shaq can be a d*ck. peace.

Mo Williams is to LeBron James as Richard Hamilton was to Michael Jordan … except Hamilton has talent.

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Man, Shaq looked like Dwight Howard when he came in the league, and by the time he went to LA, he looked like he ate Dwight Howard. Some of that was man weight, but a lot of it was just eating and chilling.
And Shaq has never added a new move his entire career in the league. Jump hook and power have been his bread and butter and he never saw a need to add any other shot.
James didn’t say Shaq was only as good as D.C. he said that like D.C. or Sheed, or many other players, Shaq refused to step out of what was comfortable to him and improve his weaknesses. And what was comfortable to him was relying on his superior girth and athletic ability to dominate. I don’t think that’s stupid at all.
And I’m with Teddy, Seed is the master of dissing Lebron even when he tries to hide it. “Lead by example…” Hilarious.

  • Blaze

Shaq is right on target with this. I was all for the move that brought mo to the cavs. I was rootin the whole season he was torchin guards. Then the playoffs come up and mo disapears. I said ok he had an off post season, ill give him that. Then he goes on to torch the regular season once again and completely vanishes in the playoffs, particularly against the celtics as did a number of players thought to be difference makers jamison, vareajo (shaq was brought in to stop dwight and he did well against the celtics)also vanished. Be mad at lebron if you want but if the cast dont show up, it doesnt matter who the star is (jordan, kobe, wade etc)
