The Timberwolves’ Hilariously Sincere Ad

Minnesota is honest with its fanbase. Very honest: “The team took out a full-page ad in Monday’s Star Tribune sports section, featuring a long open letter to fans that acknowledges the negatives, points to the positives, and spells out the plan for improvement. Included in the letter are these words: ‘So will we challenge for the NBA championship this year? Not likely.’ Chief marketing officer Ted Johnson says this is part of the team’s attempt to establish a new relationship with fans and bring some transparency to how it operates.”

wow, they’re humble. we want the Gay/Love tandem however!

They should have just put Kevin Love’s stats in the ad. He is the reason to go to their games.

  • Ryan D

Knicks should take a page out of this book.

Not gonna get a ring this year, huh? Who woulda guessed it?

  • CONEY ISLANDER

    SERIOUSLY!

Are they going to repeat this same article the next year too?

  • JoeMaMa

Hilariously sincere. Sounds like Ben Stiller’s “Simple Jack” character.

I love it. With so many players and teams always making “guarentee’s” that they can’t back up it’s nice to see a team tell it like it is.

Seeing that ad must make Kevin Garnett feel GREAT about using his opt out to leverage a trade out of Minnesota to Boston in the summer of 2007.

  • JTaylor21

They should save this ad because they are going to need it for the next 10+ years.

@IAMORANGE4EVER – I think seeing the ring on his finger already serves that purpose…

    LOL @ JTaylor21!!!!!

In a surprise move, David Khan has traded Love, Sessions, and the rights to Rubio for one Kevin Garnett.

I like this move for several reasons, none of which I’m going to detail here.

L-Wolves could probably get a discount if they pay to just keep the ad in the paper for five or six years.

    <— I Loves me some K. Love..

It also doesnt say that Darko Milicic will quickly fill KG’s shoes and fans will not even notice that he’s gone. The Big Human Victory Cigar!

moment that no ones talk about: when kg said after they eliminated the cavs that he was basically an idiot for having stayed with that franchise for so long and if he had to do it again it would have been way sooner.

  • JTaylor21

T-money is right, KG planted that seed in bron’s head that he would be wasting his prime years carrying a team alone and would be 31 with bad knees and have nothing to show for it.

  • Shem

If they don’t believe they can win a title, how the hell do they expect the players too? Doesn’t matter how slim the chances are, this is exactly why they’re a terrible franchise.

say what you want about Kahn, he’s a real cat!

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

I read this letter in full and I like what it is saying.

@Shem: Are you kidding? He’s saying they won’t win next season, but that’s better for the franchise than Gilbert’s little “win it before Lebron” BS. Realism is never a bad thing.

    they have a decent chance
