Artest Starts Raffle For Championship Ring

Props to Ron Ron for staying true to this word and supporting mental illness and those who seek therapy. From ESPN: “With his longheld NBA title goal met, Lakers forward Ron Artest is putting a lasting piece of it on sale for the public, raffling his championship ring online at www.ronartest.com. Tickets are $2 a piece with a minimum purchase of five tickets. The raffle will be held from the offices of netraffle.org on Dec. 25, the same day the Lakers host the Miami Heat as the headliner of a five-game Christmas Day lineup for the NBA. The proceeds will go to Artest’s non-profit organization, Xcel University, which then will select two charities — one in Los Angeles, one nationally — to receive the money.”

Good for him. Atest seems to value experience and being in the current moment rather than having material items to take his focus away from what is going on now.

    rons crazy

  • omerurundul

i dont think he is crazy. he is an idiot. he acts like crazy to take attention. somebody should tell this to him. we dont buy it.

@ omerurundul: who is this collective “we” that you seem to be referring to? …I do know that YOU would never say that to Ron, for obvious reasons. I’m with LD. Bold move by a bold man. …and notice how he made it possible for EVERYONE to affordably have the chance to get their mitts on a bona fide championship ring? Who else has or would make this possible? No one, clearly.

Dude tries so hard to be like Rodman it’s annoying. Seems like no one on the lakers can resist jocking past greats.

How do you buy the tickets, I can’t find it on Ron’s site!

  • Rubber Soul

@JTaylor21: Did Rodman ever put one of his championship rings up for raffle to support charities? I must’ve missed something. I’ve read a lot of your posts on this site. Jeez bro, easy on the Laker-hating. Dude’s trying to do something nice and very special, cut the guy some slack and give him props for parting with his very first championship ring.

The only ring that matters is your wedding ring. But a championship ring would be awesome to have.

  • slamfan4life

im gettin some tix!! gonna get me a ring!

@hangtime Hec – I’m liking the idea of a championship ring BEING my wedding ring. : )

  • Dan

The 5 tix for $2 each minimum is smart. People feel like they have more chance with 5 entries instead of 1 so it’s good marketing. It makes no difference though..
    I’ll be buying for sure!

@ burnt chicken: exactly who the hell is this “We”?.

I don’t and probably never will understand Ron Ron’s motivation but can’t “We” just say that it’s an amazing gesture?

@Tarzan, so if you only want 1 ticket for your 10 bucks that’s on you bro. Me? I’ll take the 5!

The best ending we could have to this story would be if someone entered the raffle, won, and gave the ring back to Ron Ron.
