Blazers To Let Oden’s Extension Deadline Pass

Oden will be the first No. 1 pick since Kwame Brown to not sign an extension after his third season. From the Oregonian: “The Trail Blazers and the representatives of Greg Oden have come to an agreement: The oft-injured center hasn’t played enough to warrant a contract extension. As a result, the two sides will let Monday’s deadline pass for first-round picks in 2007 to sign contract extensions, meaning Oden will become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2011. Once he becomes a free agent on July 1, the Blazers will have the opportunity to match any offer made to Oden.”

If Oden gets healthy and kills it this season Portland are going to regret this decision, there are plenty of teams with cap space who could offer him vast amounts of money. Knicks come to mind actually.

Can’t blame em. Couldn’t they at least try to trade him? I’m pretty sure the Knicks will do it. See Curry and McDyess.

  • MikeC.

Oden would be wise to sign with Phoenix, just so he can work with their training staff and get his body right.

@ MikeC , i totally agree with you, as it seems that health department in Phoenix does things better then the rest of the league, and they are in a need of a big guy

We (blazer fans) have been very patient with Greg.. Will rub alot of people the wrong way if he gets healthy just in time to bolt..

My first reaction is that this is a mistake. The price to get Oden for the foreseeable future is at an absolute low. All the injuries and the threat of a lockout year will give Postland tremendous barganing power. I say roll the dice on this one…..

should have signed the extension. Its not like it was gonna be star-player money anyways. Abou 4-5 mil a season would have been good. But now its like I dont even want Oden to explode for a monster season, because then everyone will throw big offers at him just to hurt the Blazers’ cap kinda like what the Blazers did with Millsap.

LOL @ knicks fans wanting him

  • Hammer

Understandably so. No surprise. Mos def don’t want 2 get stuck w/a bad contract if he isn’t healthy. I understand its a gamble but it just wouldn’t b wise for them 2 sign him. All they can do is wait, see, and hope 4 the best. Hope tho he does get healthy. GO P-TOWN!

no big deal guys. chances of him leaving are slim. either he has an ok year this year and they match a respectable offer, or even sign him before someone else has a chance, or he does what they always thought he would, and they sign him. only way he leaves is if some team overpays him

  • $am

And believe me, some dumb-ass team WILL overpay him. That Kahn dude running the Timberwolves is definitely dumb enough to pull that off.

when youre joining kwame as the only ones to do something, its not going well.

LOL at Tarzan. If your spoken about in the same breath as Kwame, Sam Bowie or Bill Russells generation nothings going well.
At this rate Oden could be signed by Portland for 500k.

    Damn shame

man can yal jus imagine if he was to be signed by the thunder?? that would be so awesome if he could stay healthy especially if he turned into the dominant defensive center like everyone knows he will be if he can jus stay healthy.. westbrook, kd, and oden would make one hell of a trio n they could still have green and also ibaka n aldrich to back oden up.. they need a defensive minded center n i really believe oden would be great for them cause u know the thunder wont overpay him.. this would be awesome

It would be destiny in a sense if Oden signs with the Thunder coz in Greek mythology Thor’s, the god of thunder, son name is Odin.
